    Book Details:
  • Author : Anders N. Nilsson
  • Publisher : World Catalogue of Insects
  • Release : 2001
  • ISBN : 9788788757620
  • Pages : 406 pages

Download or read book Dytiscidae Coleoptera written by Anders N. Nilsson and published by World Catalogue of Insects. This book was released on 2001 with total page 406 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Concerns about global biodiversity are rising dramatically, yet we are lagging behind in the most basic prerequisite for its understanding and conservation: the inventory. Insect species may make up five or ten times the number of all other plant and animal species combined, and as such they represent one of the major challenges in biosystematic science. World Catalogue of Insects is an initiative aiming at compiling worldscale, authoritative catalogues of monophyletic insect taxa. We are therefore proud to launch this major series. Volumes will as a minimum contain standard nomenclatoral information on all names pertaining to the taxon treated, including type locality and distribution to the extent this is relevant. Additional information is optional, e. g., location, status and condition of types; biology; bibliographical information; pest status; vector status; etc. This volume two focuses on Hydrophiloidea (Coleoptera). Book Australian Beetles Volume 1

Download or read book Australian Beetles Volume 1 written by Adam Slipinski and published by CSIRO PUBLISHING. This book was released on 2013-10-14 with total page 1328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This three-volume series represents a comprehensive treatment of the beetles of Australia, a relatively under-studied fauna that includes many unusual and unique lineages found nowhere else on Earth. Volume 1 contains keys to all 117 beetle families found in Australia, and includes over 1100 illustrations of adults, larvae and anatomical structures. This volume is based in part on Lawrence & Britton’s out-of-print Australian Beetles, but is fully updated and expanded. The biology and morphology for all major beetle lineages is described and illustrated, along with anatomical terms which clarify the characters and terminology used in the keys; few other resources for beetle identification include such a detailed morphological background. A chapter on the fossil record is also included, and family sections provide full descriptions of adults and larvae, including the world distribution of each family. The revised identification keys (currently recognised as one of the most valuable keys worldwide) will aid quarantine agents, biologists and students in identifying members of the most species-rich order of animals.

Book A catalogue of Lithuanian beetles Insecta Coleoptera

Download or read book A catalogue of Lithuanian beetles Insecta Coleoptera written by Vytautas Tamutis and published by PenSoft Publishers LTD. This book was released on 2011-08-05 with total page 500 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A catalogue of Lithuanian beetles (Insecta, Coleoptera)? is the first most comprehensive publication on Lithuanian beetle fauna. This volume provides a general overview of the main features of Lithuanian territory, the origins and formation of the beetle fauna and their conservation measures, the faunistic investigations in Lithuania to date revealing the most important stages of the research process. Basing on the published and interactive sources since 1830 the full lists of recorded and expected for Lithuania beetle species as well as enlarged list of references have been compiled in the catalogue. After revision of public beetle collections in Lithuania, the authors propose to remove 43 species from the beetle species list of the country on the grounds they have been wrongly identified or published by mistake. The information published in the monograph will serve to further research Lithuanian beetles.

Book Trogossitidae A review of the beetle family with a catalogue and keys

Download or read book Trogossitidae A review of the beetle family with a catalogue and keys written by Jiri Kolibac and published by PenSoft Publishers LTD. This book was released on 2013-12-31 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph contents a review of the beetle family Trogossitidae (Cleroidea). The worldwide distributed family includes 55 recent and 10 extinct genera with about 600 species that are classified within 3 subfamilies and 12 tribes. In spite of fewer number of species, Trogossitidae is morphologically and ecologically extremely diversified. There are four-eyed predators that fly, run and even jump around swiftly in forest clearings to contrast with slow-moving, fungivorous species that dwell under the bark of old trees. There are also species that squat on flowers to feed on pollen grains as well as minute creatures that have been extracted from forest litter. Brief descriptions of all genera as well as keys to all higher taxa are provided. All known species and subspecies are listed, together with complete taxonomic references back to 1910, the date of issue of their last catalogue. The work includes maps of distribution of all genera, colour photographs of generic representatives, SEM photographs and remarks on a phylogeny of particular taxa.
