Download or read book Series on Chemical Accidents OECD Guiding Principles for Chemical Accident Prevention Preparedness and Response Third Edition written by OECD and published by OECD Publishing. This book was released on 2023-06-16 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chemical accidents with serious consequences continue to happen in OECD Member countries and worldwide. Over the past decades, successive major accidents have caused deaths, injuries, significant environmental pollution and massive economic losses – from the hydrogen fluoride leak in Gumi (Korea) in 2012, the ammonium nitrate explosion in West, Texas (United States) in 2013 or, recently, the blow-up of a chemical facility in Tarragona (Spain) and the explosion at the port of Beirut (Lebanon) in 2020, and the blast in Leverkusen (Germany) in 2021. This third edition of the OECD Guiding Principles for Chemical Accident Prevention, Preparedness and Response provides guidance for the safe planning and operation of hazardous installations. It aims to support public authorities and industry in taking appropriate actions to prevent chemical accidents and to mitigate impacts of accidents that do nevertheless occur. These guiding principles apply to fixed installations at which hazardous substances are produced, processed, handled, stored, used or disposed of, in such a form and quantity that there might be a risk of occurrence of a chemical accident. These guiding principles constitute the technical guidance supporting the implementation of the Decision-Recommendation of the Council concerning Chemical Accident Prevention, Preparedness and Response adopted in 2023.

This book was released on 2003 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent years have witnessed a variety of large-scale disasters throughout the world relating to natural disasters, technological accidents, infectious diseases, food safety issues and terrorist attacks. This book examines the underlying forces driving changes in these key risk areas and explores the social and economic implications of these developments on major systems relating to provision of health services, transport, energy, food and water supplies, information and telecommunications. It identifies the challenges facing OECD countries, especially at an international level, in assessing, preparing for and responding to conventional and newly emerging hazards. It also sets out a number of recommendations for governments and the private sector as to how the management of emerging systemic risks might be improved.
Download or read book Computer Application in Process and Plant Engineering written by H. Schmidt-Traub and published by Wiley-VCH. This book was released on 1999-09 with total page 452 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 36th Tutzing Symposion Computer Application in Process and Plant Engineering The volume represents the revised papers of the 36th Tutzing Symposion held at the Evangelische Akademie Scholss Tutzing. Germany, on March 9 – 12, 1998. Computers and application software constitute a major driving force for progress in chemical engineering. Major impacts have been initiated by new computer based calculation methods and the inclusion of heuristics for synthesis, simulation and optimization of individual processes as well as plant wide operation. CAD-software provides the capacity to extract technical information represented in a drawing and to integrate it with alpha-numeric data. Global networks have initiated a further revolution in information technology as it is applied to the field of chemical engineering. It has been ten years since the last Tutzing Symposion on ???Modern computer technologies and their effects on chemical technology" took place. This long time span provided ample reason to review and to discuss the impact of modern computer technologies in progress engineering. Representatives of software companies, academic researchers as well as industrial development managers and users of practical applications were invited to discuss recent computer applications as well as their own vision of future challenges. The topics covered by the 24 papers include system integration, process development, process design, process control and plant design.
