Book Workshop of the Second Self

Download or read book Workshop of the Second Self written by Gary Wolf and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2006-08-01 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The year is 2030. The place is Centerville, a typical city. Clifton Pembroke is a young professional with a promising career in the field of "disability advocacy." He helps people raise their disability profile-a single index that encompasses every variety of injustice and disadvantage that may befall an individual. Raising one's disability profile can bring a host of benefits, including subsidies and preferential treatment. But some people are no longer satisfied with these benefits. They assert that their very birth was an injustice, that a fundamental travesty has occurred, that in fact they should have been a different person. They even know who that other person is, and they intend to receive their just compensation-by obtaining the legal right to seize the other's identity. Clifton becomes entangled in ethical dilemmas that run to the core of what it means to be human. In choosing sides, he must make difficult, even dangerous decisions. In his search for answers, he gropes in the darkness until he meets the people who are building the workshop of the second self.

Book Art Workshop for Children

Download or read book Art Workshop for Children written by Barbara Rucci and published by Quarry Books. This book was released on 2016-11-01 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Art Workshop for Children is not just another book of straightforward art projects. The book's unique child-led approach provides a framework for cultivating creative thinking and encourages the wonder that comes when children are allowed to freely explore the creative process and their materials. As children work through these open-ended workshops, adults are guided on how to be facilitators who provide questions, encourage deep thinking, and help spark an excitement for discovery. Children explore basic materials and workshops that use minimal supplies, and then gradually add new materials to fill the art cabinets as well as new skills and more complex workshops. Most workshops are suitable to preschool-aged children, and each contains ideas for explorations and new twists to engage older or more experienced artists. Interspersed throughout are sidebar essays that introduce perspectives on mess-making, imperfection, the role of adult, collaborative art, and thoughts on the Reggio Emilia method, a self-guided teaching philosophy. These pieces underscore the value of art-making with children, and support the parent/teacher/care-giver on how to successfully lead, question, and navigate their children through the workshops to result in the fullest experiences.

Book Destruction and Creation

Download or read book Destruction and Creation written by Mary Ann Mattoon and published by Daimon. This book was released on 1999 with total page 640 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 14th Congress for Analytical Psychology was held 23-28 August 1998 in the ancient city of Florence, Italy. The theme, 'Destruction and Creation: Personal and Cultural Transformations', is especially appropriate to the Italian setting, with that nation's history of destruction, both from nature and from human activity, and its tradition -- especially in Florence -- of creative individuals and institutions. The theme is fitting, also, to the context of Jungian psychology, with its emphasis on these and other pairs of opposites, with their integral role in psychic wholeness. Acknowledging, also, that destruction is indispensable to creation, some Jungians prefer the term 'creative unconscious' to the traditional 'collective unconscious'.

Book The The Machine Learning Workshop

Download or read book The The Machine Learning Workshop written by Hyatt Saleh and published by Packt Publishing Ltd. This book was released on 2020-07-22 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Take a comprehensive and step-by-step approach to understanding machine learning Key FeaturesDiscover how to apply the scikit-learn uniform API in all types of machine learning modelsUnderstand the difference between supervised and unsupervised learning modelsReinforce your understanding of machine learning concepts by working on real-world examplesBook Description Machine learning algorithms are an integral part of almost all modern applications. To make the learning process faster and more accurate, you need a tool flexible and powerful enough to help you build machine learning algorithms quickly and easily. With The Machine Learning Workshop, you'll master the scikit-learn library and become proficient in developing clever machine learning algorithms. The Machine Learning Workshop begins by demonstrating how unsupervised and supervised learning algorithms work by analyzing a real-world dataset of wholesale customers. Once you've got to grips with the basics, you’ll develop an artificial neural network using scikit-learn and then improve its performance by fine-tuning hyperparameters. Towards the end of the workshop, you'll study the dataset of a bank's marketing activities and build machine learning models that can list clients who are likely to subscribe to a term deposit. You'll also learn how to compare these models and select the optimal one. By the end of The Machine Learning Workshop, you'll not only have learned the difference between supervised and unsupervised models and their applications in the real world, but you'll also have developed the skills required to get started with programming your very own machine learning algorithms. What you will learnUnderstand how to select an algorithm that best fits your dataset and desired outcomeExplore popular real-world algorithms such as K-means, Mean-Shift, and DBSCANDiscover different approaches to solve machine learning classification problemsDevelop neural network structures using the scikit-learn packageUse the NN algorithm to create models for predicting future outcomesPerform error analysis to improve your model's performanceWho this book is for The Machine Learning Workshop is perfect for machine learning beginners. You will need Python programming experience, though no prior knowledge of scikit-learn and machine learning is necessary.

Download or read book Self Sustaining Systems written by Robert Hirschfeld and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-10-22 with total page 163 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the First Workshop on Self-sustaining Systems, S3, held in Potsdam, Germany, in May 2008. S3 is a forum for discussion of topics relating to computer systems and languages that are able to bootstrap, implement, modify, and maintain themselves. One property of these systems is that their implementation is based on small but powerful abstractions; examples include (amongst others) Squeak/Smalltalk, COLA, Klein/Self, PyPy/Python, Rubinius/Ruby, and Lisp. Such systems are the engines of their own replacement, giving researchers and developers great power to experiment with, and explore future directions from within their own small language kernels.
