Download or read book Happiness written by Randy Alcorn and published by NavPress. This book was released on 2015-09-17 with total page 575 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Do you ever wonder whether God even cares if we’re happy? This world can be so hard, and we aren’t promised an easy road. But that’s not the whole story. The Bible is filled with verses that prove that ours is a God who not only loves celebrations but also desperately wants his children to experience happiness. Why else would he go to the lengths he did to ensure our eternal happiness in his presence? We know that we will experience unimaginable joy and happiness in heaven, but that doesn’t mean we can’t also experience joy and happiness here on earth. In Happiness, noted theologian Randy Alcorn (bestselling author of Heaven) dispels centuries of misconceptions about happiness, including downright harmful ideas like the prosperity gospel, and provides indisputable proof that God not only wants us to be happy, he commands it. Randy covers questions like: How can I cultivate happiness in my life? What’s the difference between joy and happiness? Can good things become idols that steal our happiness? Is seeking happiness selfish? How can I achieve happiness through gratitude? What does it look like to receive God’s grace? The most definitive study on the subject of happiness to date, this book is a paradigm-shifting wake-up call for the church and Christians everywhere.

Download or read book James Durham 1622 1658 written by Donald John MacLean and published by Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht. This book was released on 2015-03-11 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The free offer of the gospel has been a matter of significant debate within Reformed theology. However, despite this controversy, Reformed theologians such as James Durham preached a gospel offer which was a sincere and free invitation from God to all, to embrace Jesus Christ as Saviour. This gospel offer expressed God's grace and goodness to all. Donald MacLean argues that Durham's doctrinal position is representative of the Westminster Standards and embraced by his contemporaries and evidenced by the later disputes concerning the meaning of the teaching of the Westminster Confession of Faith.
Download or read book Reformed Systematic Theology Volume 2 written by Joel Beeke and published by Crossway. This book was released on 2020-11-16 with total page 1211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of systematic theology is to engage not only the head but also the heart and hands. Only recently has the church compartmentalized these aspects of life—separating the academic discipline of theology from the spiritual disciplines of faith and obedience. This multivolume work brings together rigorous historical and theological scholarship with spiritual disciplines and practical insights—characterized by a simple, accessible, comprehensive, Reformed, and experiential approach. In this volume, Joel R. Beeke and Paul M. Smalley shift from the doctrine of God (theology proper) to the doctrine of humanity (anthropology) and the doctrine of Christ (Christology). This extensive reformed theology explores the Bible's teaching about who we are and why we were created, as well as who Jesus is and why his divinity is essential to the Christian faith.

Download or read book World Religions and Cults Volume 1 written by Bodie Hodge and published by New Leaf Publishing Group. This book was released on 2015-08-13 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Religions in today’s culture seem to be multiplying. Have you ever wondered why certain religions believe and practice what they do? Or how they view the Bible? This volume delves into these and other engaging questions, such as: How can a Christian witness to people in these religions? Do these other religions believe in creation and a Creator? How do we deal with these religions from a biblical authority perspective? Many religions and cults discussed in this first volume openly affirm that the Bible is true, but then something gets in their way. And there is a common factor every time—man’s fallible opinions. In one way or another the Bible gets demoted, reinterpreted, or completely ignored. Man’s ideas are used to throw the Bible’s clear teaching out the window while false teachings are promoted. This book is a must for laymen, church leaders, teachers, and students to understand the trends in our culture and around the world where certain religions dominate, helping you discern truth and guard your faith. When you understand a religion’s origins and teachings, you are in a better position to know how to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ as you take the good news to those in false religions.
Download or read book Knowing Sin written by Mark Jones and published by Moody Publishers. This book was released on 2022-02-01 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first rule of combat is: know your enemy. We don’t talk a lot about sin these days. But maybe we should. The Puritans sure did—because they understood sin’s deceptive power and wanted to root it out of their lives. Shouldn’t we want the same? Though many books have been written on the “doctrine of sin,” few are as practical and applicable as this one. In Knowing Sin, Mark Jones puts his expertise in the Puritans to work by distilling the vast wisdom of our Christian forebears into a single volume that summarizes their thought on this vital subject. The result isn’t a theological tome to sit on your shelf and gather dust, but a surprisingly relevant book to keep by your bedside and refer to again and again. You’ll come to understand topics like: Sin’s Origin Sin’s Grief Sin’s Thoughts Sin’s Temptations Sin’s Misery Sin’s Secrecy and of course . . . Sin’s Defeat! None of us is free from the struggle with sin. The question isn’t whether we’re sinful, it’s what we’re doing about it. Thanks be to God, there is a path to overcoming sin. And the first step on that path to victory is knowing what we’re up against. Start Knowing Sin today!
Download or read book In Pursuit of Civility written by Keith Thomas and published by Brandeis University Press. This book was released on 2018-06-05 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The renowned historian Keith Thomas has written a peerless study of the place of civility in the shaping of English society between the early sixteenth and the late eighteenth centuries. Dramatic changes in court fashion and manners took place, but equally important was the emergence of an urban trading and manufacturing class with new values and standards of behavior. Traditional notions of class, gender, social custom, and Englishness would all be affected by the upheavals of the period. Civility emerged in contrast to barbarism, as England took its first steps towards global domination. Displaying a true master's grasp of the period, Thomas offers a compelling and wide-ranging analysis of the connections between changing notions of civility, the justification of colonial expansion, and the invention of race."--Publisher description.
Download or read book An Exposition of Psalm 119 written by Thomas Manton and published by Ravenio Books. This book was released on 2013-02-08 with total page 2774 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thomas Manton’s collections of 158 sermons on Psalm 119 is one of the lasting works of the Puritan era. Here’s what Spurgeon said on Manton’s exposition of Psalm 119: “Fully up to Manton’s highest mark, and he is well known to have been one of the chief of the Puritan brotherhood. The work is long, but that results only from the abundance of matter.” J.C. Ryle championed the republication of Manton’s works in the 19th century. He wrote, “Manton’s chief excellence as a writer, in my judgment, consists in the ease, perspicuousness, and clearness of his style. I find it easier to read fifty pages of Manton’s than ten of some of his brethren’s; and after reading, I feel that I carry more away. Let no one, moreover, suppose that because Manton’s style is easy, his writings show any lack of matter and thought. Nothing of the kind. The fertility of his mind seems to have been truly astonishing. Every page in his books contains many ideas, and gives you plenty to think about. If Manton never soars so high as some writers, he is, at any rate, never trifling, never shallow, never wearisome, and never dull.” On Manton’s practical commentary on James, Spurgeon notes: “In Manton’s best style. An exhaustive work, as far as the information of the period admitted. Few such books are written now.”
Download or read book The Death of Calvinism written by Edwin Vrell and published by First Books. This book was released on 2010-05 with total page 347 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Calvin left the Papal tyranny to become a tyrant himself. This is a summary of how Calvinism has ruined all the Protestant, Evangelical, Baptist, and cult churches. They all refuse to read the Bible in its own historical context in order to see what God has revealed to us believers. Every church meeting is filled with philosophy, mythology, occult psychology, and humanistic sociology from polling the reprobates. We live according to Gal. 5:22 and 1 John 2:15-17. 1. The Calvinists and All the Rest of the so-called Reformers misuse the Bible by quoting the verses out of their historical context. by following Plato, Scholastic theologians, Gnostic speculations, Constantine's Emperor sun worship better known as the Papal Christian Myth, horny monks and Justin Martyr's 8 heresies in his non-Christian philosophy. Send for the summary. Tell me what the Calvinists changed? Very little! 2. The Reformers kept the magic Sacraments-animism from the Latin Mystery Religion, by having salvation coming through the priestly magicians applying magic water and cannibalizing Jesus. The magic Means of Grace from the clergy saves you if. 3. Calvinism keeps mediators between me and Jesus Christ, such as, the elite clergy, the Episcopal Presbytery, and Calvin's "Institutes of the Christian Myth." 4. Only the duly authorized clergy-priests can serve the body and blood of the Animistic Sacrament to the laity and the peons. The magic water saves one from the mythical Original Sin from the Augustine, the horny monk, Deut. 24:16. 5. The parishioners must keep the "means of grace," the Jewish Decalogue, and other superstitious church laws to follow the error of "progressive sanctification" lies and to make the assurance of salvation UNSURE and fill them with constant guilt of failing to keep the laws. 6. The gullible church members must keep the SABBATH, that is gone, and the Jewish TITHE, that supported the Aaronic priesthood, and other dead rituals and social works, Heb. 9:14. 7. Cal wanted to be a priest under Queen Bess I. So much for the priesthood of the believer. 8. In PCA, Book of Church Order and the Pagan Westminster Confession were my authority if you were conservative. The liberals followed their own Gnostic mysticism. 9. At the Presbytery, they ran the churches like the Episcopalian form of government. 10. They love the KJV, the papal elite Latinized mistranslation from Jerome. All the Latin words changed the meaning of the Koine Greek into their papal myth. 11.) The Bill of Rights forced the Calvinists out of the State Church persecution of the Quakers and Baptists as they did under King Edward, the 6th, and in Massachusetts.
