This book was released on 1996-03-29 with total page 501 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The phrases the information superhighway and the the information societyare on almost everyone's lips. CSCW and groupware systems are the key to bringing those phrases to life. To an extent that would scarcely have been imaginable a few years ago, the contributions in this volume speak to each other and to a broader interdisciplinary context. The areas of ethnography and design, the requirements and principles of CSCW design, CSCW languages and environments, and the evaluation of CSCW systems are brought together, to bring to light how activities in working domains are really in practice, carried out. Book Groupware in Practice

Download or read book Groupware in Practice written by Christine V. Bullen and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-05 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Groupware in Practice: An Interpretation of Work Experience; March 1990 Observers have identified a potential for major improvements in organizational productivity made possible through the use of personal computers serving as a means to link people into task-oriented teams. The study we conducted, given in overview form here, offers an early examination of how people are using personal computers for such electronic exchanges via networking. Our interviews of 223 people who were using several 'groupware' systems in a sample of 25 enterprises indicate how they employ these software tools to support their group work. We conclude that complex interactions of social and technical factors affect the use of groupware systems in organizations. We outline issues which both the developers of systems and the managers implementing groupware systems must understand in order to facilitate the design, introduction, and use of these systems.
