Book Work Rules

Download or read book Work Rules written by Laszlo Bock and published by Twelve. This book was released on 2015-04-07 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the visionary head of Google's innovative People Operations comes a groundbreaking inquiry into the philosophy of work -- and a blueprint for attracting the most spectacular talent to your business and ensuring that they succeed. "We spend more time working than doing anything else in life. It's not right that the experience of work should be so demotivating and dehumanizing." So says Laszlo Bock, former head of People Operations at the company that transformed how the world interacts with knowledge. This insight is the heart of Work Rules!, a compelling and surprisingly playful manifesto that offers lessons including: Take away managers' power over employees Learn from your best employees-and your worst Hire only people who are smarter than you are, no matter how long it takes to find them Pay unfairly (it's more fair!) Don't trust your gut: Use data to predict and shape the future Default to open-be transparent and welcome feedback If you're comfortable with the amount of freedom you've given your employees, you haven't gone far enough. Drawing on the latest research in behavioral economics and a profound grasp of human psychology, Work Rules! also provides teaching examples from a range of industries-including lauded companies that happen to be hideous places to work and little-known companies that achieve spectacular results by valuing and listening to their employees. Bock takes us inside one of history's most explosively successful businesses to reveal why Google is consistently rated one of the best places to work in the world, distilling 15 years of intensive worker R&D into principles that are easy to put into action, whether you're a team of one or a team of thousands. Work Rules! shows how to strike a balance between creativity and structure, leading to success you can measure in quality of life as well as market share. Read it to build a better company from within rather than from above; read it to reawaken your joy in what you do.

Book Women of Color and Hair Bias in the Work Environment

Download or read book Women of Color and Hair Bias in the Work Environment written by Francis, Kula A. and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2023-11-09 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Professional women of color identify with various natural, Black hairstyles including braids, dread locs, twists, and other natural coiled styles. Black women who work in professional settings have historically encountered negative stares, remarks, and biases. They tend to be stereotyped on their level of professionalism and competency if they choose not to conform to mainstream hairstyles. Women wearing Black hairstyles are often perceived as less beautiful and less professional than those who wear Eurocentric hairstyles. Professional Black women are often challenged in these situations where they must decide how to manage their identity in the work environment. Too often, professional Black women apply and interview for positions where their natural hairstyle becomes the topic of interest. If given the opportunity for employment, subtle references may be made about their hairstyles, which suggests such hairstyles are not in alignment with the professional climate of an organization. This type of pressure makes Black women feel forced to conform to Eurocentric hairstyles. These expectations lead to feelings of social inadequacy, hurt, and discouragement of individuals in their workplace. The apprehensions with hair acceptance are even more concerning, when considering that the notion of straight groomed hair has been largely expected not only by Whites, but also by many people of color as well. Women of Color and Hair Bias in the Work Environment explores the experiences of professional women of color who have had encountered feelings of uncertainty, self-consciousness, or differing treatment, and/or discrimination because of their natural hairstyle choices. The intent is to shine a light on the challenges professional women of color face and how these experiences impact their hiring and/or work environment. Covering topics such as hairstyle empowerment, ethics of hair bias, and diversity of hair, this book serves as an invaluable resource for educators, social workers, psychologists, organizational leadership, business professionals, and more. This book also allows women to be encouraged by stories of professional women who have overcome the societal burdens placed on natural hair.

Book Managing Psychosocial Hazards and Work Related Stress in Today s Work Environment

This book was released on 2022-08-08 with total page 163 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today’s evolving world of work makes it imperative for employers to manage psychosocial hazards (PSH) and risks leading to work-related stress. This book contains essential, general, and country-specific information and templates for the successful management of hazards to prevent psychological harm in the workplace. Acknowledged as global issues affecting all workers and industries, PSH are work factors that have the potential to lead to physical or psychological injury and stress, relating to how work is designed, organized, and managed, and to work relationships and interactions. This book advances the idea that management of PSH, and psychological health and safety, is part of the duty of care of today’s responsible and ethical employers to employees, and that U.S. employers should recognize this responsibility. Clear and easy to follow, this guide presents comprehensive information on addressing PSH, discussing measures taken internationally (laws, guidance, and resources from Europe, Canada, Mexico, Australia, and Japan), and a new global standard on psychological health and safety at work. (Note: At times within this book, and Part II in particular, punctuation may be added to quoted provisions for ease of reading and for consistency.) Practitioners and students in the fields of management, occupational health and safety, human resource management, ethics and compliance, occupational health psychology, and organizational psychology will come away with a deeper understanding of the importance of PSH and their management.

Book The Work Environment

Download or read book The Work Environment written by Doan J. Hansen and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1993-12-17 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a clear, concise presentation of the most significant aspects of indoor air pollution. This volume defines a wide range of indoor air quality problems and solutions. Discussions center around common symptoms and potential environmental and chemical causes, health hazards from arts and crafts and from common household products, and the impact of common building ventilation problems and how to solve them. Because it is so easy to waste dollars and time when identifying the causes of an indoor air pollution incident, this book presents an expert summary of how to conduct an indoor air pollution survey. Psychological factors of indoor air pollution problems are characterized, and solutions for solving these problems are discussed. The book also covers the role of ergonomic design in office injuries and worker comfort, as well as defines causes and solutions of nuisance noise. Radiation exposure from video display terminals (VDT) is addressed, including topics such as types of radiation and exposure limits.

Book The changing interaction between robots and humans in the working environment

Download or read book The changing interaction between robots and humans in the working environment written by Peter Rössel and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2016-03-23 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Essay from the year 2015 in the subject Leadership and Human Resources - Miscellaneous, grade: B, Sophia Antipolis Campus (France); SKEMA Business School, language: English, abstract: Within my research paper I analyze how the further development of robotic devices will influence our working environment. Robots are going to change the global economy drastically. With severe effects on the job market, as recent studies outline. In the United Kingdom alone one third of jobs could be omitted due to the “robot-revolution”, in the United States with 47 percent even almost half. Especially in “low-skilled” job fields robots could take many working spaces of human beings, enormous social shifts would result. Even though a lot of people argue that technical advancement and therefore the further development of robotic devices bring advantages to our lives for the most part, we have to start to realise that robots may replace our jobs and therefore adapt to a changing work environment. More and more people are outcompeted by a non-living species an, unlikeable scenario that though will take place in the future and therefore people have to learn to deal with this new setting.
