Book Workforce Diversity and Adaptability

Download or read book Workforce Diversity and Adaptability written by Sarah Sami Obeid and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Workforce diversity refers to the varied background of employees in terms of race, color, gender, education, social class, and mental and physical capabilities. The management of a diverse workforce has increased in recent years and has been an issue of great concern to many academics and practitioners. This unusual trend in managerial thinking is a challenge to the firmly established belief that the workforce globally has a mainly homogeneous nature and this diversity of workforce in any given country reflects the diversity of that country's population as a whole Of the many countries that have become multinational, the UAE is one of those oil rich Arab states that has attracted a large body of domestic, managerial, technical and industrial workers from many foreign countries. Because of its lack to the necessary manpower to execute, on its own, the massive projects that accompanied the oil boom, it attracted many workers from Asia, Arab countries, the Indian subcontinent and the Philippines, especially those workers whose job prospects back at home are not very promising.--Apart from library, internet search and interviews, a questionnaire was administered to 350 employees in the Department of Health and Medical Services in Dubai to test the relation between cultural diversity and change. The results of the questionnaire showed a direct relationship between cultural diversity and change although many other factors can play a role.

This book was released on 2018-08-19 with total page 105 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Late last year, the National Academy of Engineering (NAE) convened a workshop on Preparing the Engineering and Technical Workforce for Adaptability and Resilience to Change. The workshop springs from the earlier NAE report Making Value for America which described the ongoing transformation in the way in which products and services are conceived, designed, made, and distributed. The workshop focused on the challenges facing the workforce in light of these dramatic changes in the production process, especially the need to constantly renew and learn new skills. The workshop served to increase stakeholders' understanding of both the importance of workforce adaptability and the definition and characteristics of adaptability. It also provided an opportunity to share known best practices for fostering adaptability, including identification of barriers and multiple pathways for overcoming those barriers. As important, it helped to identify needs for future study and development. This publication summarizes the presentations and discussions from the workshop.

Book Adjusting to the Future Workforce Combining Diversity and Organizational Climate Research

This book was released on 2013-01-02 with total page 189 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

This book was released on 2020-11-21 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Headlines frequently appear that purport to highlight the differences among workers of different generations and explain how employers can manage the wants and needs of each generation. But is each new generation really that different from previous ones? Are there fundamental differences among generations that impact how they act and interact in the workplace? Or are the perceived differences among generations simply an indicator of age-related differences between older and younger workers or a reflection of all people adapting to a changing workplace? Are Generational Categories Meaningful Distinctions for Workforce Management? reviews the state and rigor of the empirical work related to generations and assesses whether generational categories are meaningful in tackling workforce management problems. This report makes recommendations for directions for future research and improvements to employment practices.
