Book Participation Programs in Work Organizations

Download or read book Participation Programs in Work Organizations written by Aviad Bar-Haim and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2002-05-30 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Employee participation programs have many faces, many definitions, many forms—and they change all the time. For some people they are meant to solve every problem in the workplace. For others they are ways to reduce resistance to management and its efforts to bring about organizational change. Still others see them as totally redundant and a hindrance to efficency and the implementation of good management practices. To make sense of it all, Bar-Haim integrates—historically, thematically, analytically—the wide but often incoherent knowledge we have about these programs, and in doing so portrays them in a clear, useful, multidimensional manner. The result is a work of scholarship and practical guidance that students, scholars, researchers, and executives will find important, an action-oriented source of vital information. Bar-Haim shows that participation programs in work organizations have always attempted to solve three basic human problems, problems stemming from industrial democracy and equality, work alienation, and occupational and managerial effectiveness. To do this he uses a rare multidimensional technique. He describes and analyzes the processes and behavior of participation, participants, and organizational forms using a a variety of conceptual and theoretical frames drawn from the social and management sciences. He enhances our understanding of participation programs on micro and macro levels, and then provides practical guidelines from the real-world experience of other scholars and executives. Among the several ironies he discovers are that the roles of enthusiasts, opponents, and skeptics changed during the course of a jubilee of these programs. By integrating a large body of research and suggesting a formal model to evaluate existing employee programs and projected ones, his book attempts to ease the enigmatic ambivalence we have toward worker participation in general. In fact, he shows that by better understanding the dynamics of participation programs, it is possible for those who desire such programs to create, construct, and maintain better ones.

Book Work and Organizations in Israel

Download or read book Work and Organizations in Israel written by Itzhak Harpaz and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-09-04 with total page 573 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the State of Israel was established, its labor force has grown rapidly and has become increasingly diverse in terms of its demographic, cultural, ethnic, and socioeconomic characteristics. Israeli work values have shifted towards greater individualism, materialism, careerism, and preference for white-collar and knowledge-based occupations is evident. A major structural change is underway, as indicated by the decline of agriculture as a component in the Israeli economy and the growth of the industrial sector--mostly towards high technology and innovative enterprises. This volume sheds light on trends and developments that have been taking place in the realm of work in Israel in recent years. It contains a unique selection of articles presenting empirical evidence of the major features and important changes characterizing work organizations and the regime of work in Israeli society: labor relations, work values, power and management in organizations, work in the Kibbutz, inter-organizational relations, women and work, migrants and minorities in the Israeli labor force. Studies show that another two major trends characterize the contemporary economy and the labor market: the trend toward privatization and globalization, the results of which are a continuous decrease of job security and an increasing level of unemployed Israeli men and women that are replaced by the low-cost labor of foreign workers emigrating from third world countries. This timely volume is valuable for its contribution to illuminating the recent changes taking place in the realm of work in Israel, and will be of interest to sociologists, social scientists, and students of Judaica.

Download or read book The Palgrave Handbook of Workers Participation at Plant Level written by Stefan Berger and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-01-21 with total page 647 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Comprising the study, documentation, and comparison of plant-level workers’ participation around the world, this volume meets the challenge of offering a global perspective on workers’ participation, representation, and models of social partnership. Value chains, economic life, inter-cultural exchange and knowledge, as well as the mobility of persons and ideas increasingly cross the borders of nation-states. In the knowledge age, the active participation of workers in organizations is crucially important for sustainable and long-term growth and innovation. This handbook offers lessons from historical, global accounts of workers’ participation at plant level, even as it looks forward to predict forthcoming trends in participation.

Book Israeli Sociology

Download or read book Israeli Sociology written by Uri Ram and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-11-06 with total page 173 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a comprehensive historical account of sociology in Israel the first history of sociology in Israel, from its beginnings in late 19th-century to the early 21st-century. It locates the ruptures and reorientations of the sociological text within its shifting historical context. Israeli sociology is shown to have evolved in tandem with the development of the Israeli-Jewish nation in Palestine, and later of the state of Israel. Offering a critical overview of the origins and the development of the discipline, it argues that this can be divided into the following phases: Predecessors (1882-1948), Founders (1948-1977), Disciples (1967-1977), Critics and More Critics (1977-1987), Intermediators (1977-2018), Post-Modernists (1993-2018) and Post-Colonialists (1993-2018). This book contributes a fascinating national case study to the history of sociology and will appeal further to students and scholars of social theory and Israel Studies.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In spite of its considerable achievements, the labor economy in Israel has become a subject of contention and one that poses many challenges for the student and for the researcher who attempts to trace the obvious and the concealed mechanisms that function within it. The big problem--one that transcends nation and party--is can socialist enterprise and democratic politics coexist? The labor enterprises of Israel are divided in these two volumes into cooperative societies and administrative enterprises. The structure of the cooperative enterprises is presented in volume one; while the second volume focuses entirely on problems of the institutional economy within "Hevrat Ovdim, "the economic arm of the "Histadrut "(General Federation of Labor). In a world seeking real answers to labor-management strife and more meaningful attitudes toward work, these volumes are essential.
