Download or read book Workers Participation in Decision Making Processes and Firm Stability written by Shlomo Mizrahi and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper argues that firm efficiency and stability, as well as workers' satisfaction, can be achieved through participatory decision-making rules. It offers theoretical rationales and empirical illustrations based on the framing and operation of European works councils. Employees should take part in establishing the rules; otherwise managers will make rules that allow them to retain control of the key points in the decision-making process. In constructing such rules the involvement of unions is required; however, once rules are set union activity becomes marginal. Government intervention remains marginal throughout.

Book Impact of Culture on the Transfer of Management Practices in Former British Colonies

Download or read book Impact of Culture on the Transfer of Management Practices in Former British Colonies written by OLUSOJI JAMES GEORGE and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2011-02-16 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, Impact of Culture on the Transfer of Management Practices in a Former British Colonies: Cadbury, Nigeria, Dr. Olusoji George deals with a number of these issues head on. In particular, he has highlighted two elements largely ignored in the international management literature: first, colonial (political and economic forms) and their encounters with pre-existing employment management practices and secondly, emergent, post-colonial influences on modern management. The hybrid systems that emerge in many postcolonial, developing economies, Dr. George argues, are best investigated by delving deep into the historical antecedents of management practices. It is at the intersection between colonised and coloniser, and attempts to reconcile the injustices created within colonial systems (as well as attempts to create specific ethnic and tribal balance within colonial systems) that the legacy that independent, but postcolonial nations may struggle to reconcile may be found. Through an in-depth analysis based on a major corporation in West Africa, specifically Cadbury Nigeria, evolving practices, grounded in colonial and commercial objectives bring into sharp focus the veracity of the central historical features of the proposition made by Dr. George.

Book Building Strong Nations

Download or read book Building Strong Nations written by Eran Vigoda-Gadot and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-04-22 with total page 450 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the face of global challenges and changes - some may even say because of them - one major dilemma looms large for citizens and leaders worldwide: how can we ensure that our countries address these challenges successfully? This book demonstrates that the answer can be found in a better match between the nature of modern bureaucracy and the spirit of modern democracy, as well as by improving methods and ideas for what the author terms 'cleaver governance' and better governability. Moreover, it suggests potential directions for improving governability and public management against the backdrop of the tension between bureaucracy and democracy that has given rise to increasing mistrust of and lack of confidence in public institutions. Building Strong Nations enriches the discussion about moving modern nations forward despite major problems such as the clash of ideologies, the overburdening of and expectations from public administration, and the growing instability in world economics and international relations.
