Book Workers Compensation

Download or read book Workers Compensation written by Peter Lencsis and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 1998-06-25 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For human resource professionals, labor law specialists, and others involved in the practice of labor-management relations, Lencsis provides a concise, easily-accessed description of the workers compensation system in the United States, its governing laws and also its insurance aspects. Covering all major facets of workers compensation legislation and the insurance and risk management techniques used to comply with them, his book will have equal benefits for the staffs of insurance companies and brokerages, compensation and claims professionals, and for workers compensation executives in governmental agencies. Lencsis explains that workers compensation laws were enacted on the federal and state levels in the early part of the century and have endured in the same basic form to the present. They represent a radical departure from common law concepts of negligence and damages in that they provide for statutory medical and wage-loss benefits regardless of who is at fault. Lencsis explores how insurance mechanisms in the public and private sectors are used to fund benefits and to make their delivery as secure and certain as possible. He also notes that workers compensation insurance is a major part of the property-casualty insurance business, and as such has recently become one of its most profitable areas. Lencsis' book helps readers to understand these concepts and to work with them in the day-to-day conduct of their business.

Illinois workers have a powerful set of rights protecting them if they get injured. But you need to understand those rights in order to protect them. Author Mark Weissburg has won millions of dollars for injured workers, and now he reveals the secrets of winning these cases to you. In this abridged version of the full book you'll learn: The 3 basic rights you have under the Workers' Compensation Act. The insurance company has their handbook and their attorney. Who have you got in your corner? Benefit from the advice of an experienced attorney, protect your rights, and get the benefits you deserve. This abridged version is based on the Second Edition with changes to the law made in 2011 that have a significant impact on workers' rights. Introduction:Josie has been working hard all morning, and now she’s heading to the employee lunchroom for a break. She notices that her left knee is a little sore, and wonders if it’s from her early morning jog before work. In the lunchroom, she walks to the water cooler and slips on the floor, falling hard on her knee. It was sore, but now it’s incredibly painful. She tries to stand on it, but can’t, and it’s swelling up.Should Josie tell her supervisor what happened? Should she see her own doctor or the company doctor? Could she successfully file a claim for Workers’ Compensation benefits? How? Does it matter that she was on her lunch break? Does it make a difference that her knee was already sore before she fell? Does it matter what kind of shoes she was wearing, how old the floor is, or what day of the week it is?In an ideal world, Josie would be able to get her Workers’ Compensation benefits, get healthy, and get back to work. But there are several potential problems with her claim, and depending on how she deals with those problems, she may or may not get benefits. What should she know, what should she do, to smooth the road ahead. This book will answer those and many other questions. You’ll learn the 3 basic rights all Illinois workers have if they are injured at work. About the author: After working in film and video production for five years, Mark Weissburg studied law at The John Marshall Law School in Chicago, where he served on the editorial board of the law review and graduated in 1995 with honors.Since then, he has been practicing law with a focus on the rights of injured workers. Book Benefits Costs and Cycles in Workers Compensation

Download or read book Benefits Costs and Cycles in Workers Compensation written by Philip S. Borba and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Workers' compensation insurance presents a set of institutional charac teristics that are unique. For every other form of insurance, both the insurer and the coverage provided under the policy are completely controlled either by the federal or a state government, or by an arrangement between the insured and a property-casualty insurer. Unemployment insurance, Social Security, and bank-deposit insurance are examples for which a legis lative body sets the benefits. and a government agency prescribes the in surance premium. By contrast, the coverage and premiums for automobile, homeowners, and fire insurance are individual contractual arrangements between a policyholder and one of the more than 1800 U. S. property casualty insurance companies. Workers' compensation insurance, however, is a hybrid in which state legislatures stipulate the terms of coverage, while regulated competition is the major determinant of prices. State legislatures enact statutes that prescribe the replacement rate and duration of indemnity benefits, as well as full reimbursement of medical expenses. And although the manual rates for workers' compensation insurance continue to be administered by a prior approval process in most states, the competitive-market price for coverage is achieved through a variety of price-modification plans (Appel and Borba, 1988).
