Book Exploring the Effects of Remote Work on Work Life Balance

Download or read book Exploring the Effects of Remote Work on Work Life Balance written by Hasibul Islam and published by . This book was released on 2023 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The COVID-19 pandemic forced the world into unprecedented confinement, leading to the rapid adoption of work-from-home policies. While home-based work promotes consistent work roles and social distancing, it also presents challenges, such as routine-bound telecommunications and web interactions, which can result in fatigue and exhaustion. This study examines how employees manage their work and home roles flawlessly while working from home. The empirical and quantitative analysis describes how work from home or office affects employees' daily work-life balance by considering two independent variables: work engagement and work strain, their contributions, and their effects on employees' work-life balance. Additionally, the study finds employees' genders, the natures of their organizations (private, government, NGO), and their paternal responsibilities to demonstrate their effects on work-life balance or position conflicts based on these parameters. Results indicate that home-based work positively impacts work-life balance, allowing employees to manage their work and home roles calmly. Furthermore, work engagement positively influences work-life balance. At the same time, job strain significantly negatively impacts work-life balance, leading to imbalanced work and family life for employees who experience work-related stress while working from home.

This book was released on 2015 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the last six decades, work life and family life spheres of employees have undergone various changes. This paper presents an empirical study of major factors which have influenced employee work-life balance and popular work-life balance tools initiated at organisational level to help an employee balance different life segments such as work, family, personal finances, career and health. Current work-life balance approach, tools and programmes at organisational level primarily address those issues of work and personal life which got highlighted between the 1950's and later years of the 20th century. Current global recession in the 21st century has created an uncertain economic scenario in which employers and employees are facing new challenges and earlier work-life balance research might not be sufficient enough address the new issues. This calls for further research on work-life balance, for a wider applicability of work-life balance programmes at organisational level.

Book Mental Health Substance Use and Wellbeing in Higher Education

Download or read book Mental Health Substance Use and Wellbeing in Higher Education written by National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2021-03-05 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Student wellbeing is foundational to academic success. One recent survey of postsecondary educators found that nearly 80 percent believed emotional wellbeing is a "very" or "extremely" important factor in student success. Studies have found the dropout rates for students with a diagnosed mental health problem range from 43 percent to as high as 86 percent. While dealing with stress is a normal part of life, for some students, stress can adversely affect their physical, emotional, and psychological health, particularly given that adolescence and early adulthood are when most mental illnesses are first manifested. In addition to students who may develop mental health challenges during their time in postsecondary education, many students arrive on campus with a mental health problem or having experienced significant trauma in their lives, which can also negatively affect physical, emotional, and psychological wellbeing. The nation's institutions of higher education are seeing increasing levels of mental illness, substance use and other forms of emotional distress among their students. Some of the problematic trends have been ongoing for decades. Some have been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic and resulting economic consequences. Some are the result of long-festering systemic racism in almost every sphere of American life that are becoming more widely acknowledged throughout society and must, at last, be addressed. Mental Health, Substance Use, and Wellbeing in Higher Education lays out a variety of possible strategies and approaches to meet increasing demand for mental health and substance use services, based on the available evidence on the nature of the issues and what works in various situations. The recommendations of this report will support the delivery of mental health and wellness services by the nation's institutions of higher education.

Book Comparative Perspectives on Work Life Balance and Gender Equality

Download or read book Comparative Perspectives on Work Life Balance and Gender Equality written by Margaret O'Brien and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-12-06 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is open access under a CC BY-NC 2.5 license. This book portrays men’s experiences of home alone leave and how it affects their lives and family gender roles in different policy contexts and explores how this unique parental leave design is implemented in these contrasting policy regimes. The book brings together three major theoretical strands: social policy, in particular the literature on comparative leave policy developments; family and gender studies, in particular the analysis of gendered divisions of work and care and recent shifts in parenting and work-family balance; critical studies of men and masculinities, with a specific focus on fathers and fathering in contemporary western societies and life-courses. Drawing on empirical data from in-depth interviews with fathers across eleven countries, the book shows that the experiences and social processes associated with fathers’ home alone leave involve a diversity of trends, revealing both innovations and absence of change, including pluralization as well as the constraining influence of policy, gender, and social context. As a theoretical and empirical book it raises important issues on modernization of the life course and the family in contemporary societies. The book will be of particular interest to scholars in comparing western societies and welfare states as well as to scholars seeking to understand changing work-life policies and family life in societies with different social and historical pathways.

The study was conducted on a sample of 30 employees each from 13 organizations totaling 390 respondents. Findings - The survey instrument was found to be reliable using Cronbach's alpha test. Statistical analytical tools such as chi-square, Mann Whitney, and other descriptive statistical scores were used for analyzing the data and hypotheses testing. The results of the data revealed significant difference in perception about availability of work-life balance programs on the basis of marital status in IT and FMCG sector and on the basis of age in FMCG sector. However, the strength of such relationship was found to be negligible. Also, a significant difference was found in perception about scheduling control and mental health on the basis of perception about presence of work-life balance programs. Practical Implications - The study provides help to the organizations in understanding the demographic variables that lead to difference in the perception of employees about the work-life balance programs and also the impact that such perception creates in the scheduling control, and mental health of the employees. The organizations should have communication strategies to make sure that all the employees are made aware about the availability of work-life balance programs and when and how can they be availed. Book Work life Balance in the 21st Century

Download or read book Work life Balance in the 21st Century written by Jessica Nicklin and published by Nova Science Publishers. This book was released on 2017-10 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The world of work is constantly evolving, as is the interplay between work and other life domains. As such, it is critical that practitioners and scholars recognise the complexities of balancing work and life in the 21st century. The goal of this book is therefore to meet the demand for knowledge and skills to help employees, employers and families successfully navigate work and life. The chapters address problems and propose solutions for diverse issues, ranging from classic, yet prevalent, topics (i.e., gender disparities) to novel ideas and new directions for research (ie: chronotypes and recovery experience). To best serve the needs of the readers, both academic and applied, this volume includes empirical studies, practical reflections, review chapters, and research recommendations for the future. The idea of work-family conflict is not a new one and has been of interest to scholars and organisational leaders for nearly five decades. Yet, we know now that balancing work and life goes beyond the needs of the traditional family and the traditional nine-to-five job. We also know that in addition to the negative consequences associated with work-family conflict, there are indeed benefits associated with balancing multiple life roles. As such, the first section of this volume examines work-life balance in unique (and often, overlooked) populations of workers. The second section goes beyond the traditional idea of work-family conflict to explore innovative ways in which to conceptualise work-life balance for the future.
