Book excerpt: WINNER, BEST BARBECUE BOOK, UK, GOURMAND AWARDS 2017 If anyone knows how to braai, or barbecue, it is Jan Braai, and he knows what people need to know about how to braai: how to make a good fire - with wood - and how to confidently cook a great meal over the coals. He has braaied with thousands of South Africans almost every day since the launch of South Africa's National Braai Day (held each year on 24 September), which he founded to bring all South Africans together through their shared love of cooking over an open fire. The day's patron is Archbishop Emeritus of Cape Town Desmond Tutu, who 'likes a T-bone steak because it is in the shape of Africa'. This is much more than simply a recipe book - it is an indispensable instruction manual for braaing, or barbecuing the South African way - from perfect steaks, to lip-smacking braaied chicken and lamb chops, or rack of lamb . . . or even a lamb on a spit! In his inimitable way, Jan sets out clear rules for the basic art of braaing steak and shows how, once that's been mastered, you can move on to perfecting your braai skills on lamb, chicken, pork, fish, bread, vegetables and even a pudding or two.

Book Work Is a Sideline Live the Holiday

Download or read book Work Is a Sideline Live the Holiday written by Seth Rotherham and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2014-06-02 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A lot of people (including myself) thought my first book would be about 2oceansvibe, the digital publishing platform I started in 2002. It started as a blog and now gets half a million unique readers a month. The reason why this book is not about 2oceansvibe.com is because that journey had to do with some good timing and a whole lot of luck. You can't teach that. Instead, I have written a book about another company I created over a weekend and started making money from on the Monday. It's not that I'm any smarter than you, I just happen to know what is required to get your own product or service earning you a passive income over the internet. Then you can focus on doing what you want to do - like working on something else that you're passionate about, or just chilling out. The reason why this thinking comes so naturally to me, is my belief in 2oceansvibe's tagline, 'Work is a sideline, live the holiday.' It's the driving force behind every move I make. In the book, you will find: - The art of choosing a product or service that sells itself, without your involvement - Step-by-step, simple instructions on getting building a basic website with e-commerce for FREE - Hassle-free credit-card transaction integration - How to choose the right domain name and optimise your website for Google - Secure immediate traffic - Quick tips for researching the keywords people use to search for that product or service - Setting up a simple Adwords campaign for targeted keyword search, to add to your instant traffic - Seth's handy 'life hacking' tips to living an easier life and handling business on YOUR terms. - You will have an e-commerce solution, accepting credit cards and generating traffic for an initial investment of R250 ($25).

Book Living Intersections Transnational Migrant Identifications in Asia

Download or read book Living Intersections Transnational Migrant Identifications in Asia written by Caroline Plüss and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-03-13 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents ground-breaking theoretical, and empirical knowledge to produce a fine-grained and encompassing understanding of the costs and benefits that different groups of Asian migrants, moving between different countries in Asia and in the West, experience. The contributors—all specialist scholars in anthropology, geography, history, political science, social psychology, and sociology—present new approaches to intersectionality analysis, focusing on the migrants’ performance of their identities as the core indicator to unravel the mutual constituitivity of cultural, social, political, and economic characteristics rooted in different places, which characterizes transnational lifestyles. The book answers one key question: What happens to people, communities, and societies under globalization, which is, among others, characterized by increasing cultural disidentification?

Book The Path of Synchronicity

Download or read book The Path of Synchronicity written by Allan G. Hunter and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2011-06-01 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A combination of Jungian study, literary analysis, and therapy, this guide offers a powerful vision for capitalizing on synchronicity to instill peace in the self and the world. Synchronous moments are more than pure chance, coincidence, and dumb luck; this book shows that by recognizing them as a connection to a much larger, older pattern, readers can use the myths of culture and 1,000-year-old civilizations to guide themselves out of suffering and into tranquility. Starting with a new explanation of synchronicity and then offering practical instructions and exercises to tap into this collective wisdom, the book helps readers identify the mythic patterns that guide humanity, allowing them to face inner monsters without fear, convert them into love and compassion, and relax as part of a universal harmony.

Book East Asian Labor and Employment Law

Download or read book East Asian Labor and Employment Law written by Ronald C. Brown and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2012-03-05 with total page 571 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with international labor and employment law in the East Asia Region (EA), particularly dealing with China, South Korea, and Japan. It explores and explains the effects of globalization and discusses the role of international lawyers, business personnel, and human resource directors who are knowledgeable, culturally sensitive, and understand the issues that can arise when dealing in EA trade and investment. The text and readings (from area experts) are organized and written to provide the reader with, first, a broad understanding and insight into the global dimensions of the fast-emerging area of labor and employment issues (e.g., global legal standards and their interplay with domestic and foreign laws); and second, to show how these laws and approaches play out in specific EA countries (comparing global approaches with the specific laws of each country on four common agenda items: regulatory administration, workers' rights, trade unions, and dispute resolution). The book should be of interest not only to lawyers, students, human resource personnel, and government officials, but also to business investors, managers, and members of the public interested in the growing phenomenon of changing labor laws and societies in China, South Korea, and Japan.

Book Dreamers

  • Author : Yuyi Morales
  • Publisher : Holiday House
  • Release : 2018-09-04
  • ISBN : 0823440559
  • Pages : 40 pages

Download or read book Dreamers written by Yuyi Morales and published by Holiday House. This book was released on 2018-09-04 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We are resilience. We are hope. We are dreamers. Yuyi Morales brought her hopes, her passion, her strength, and her stories with her, when she came to the United States in 1994 with her infant son. She left behind nearly everything she owned, but she didn't come empty-handed. From the author-illustrator of Bright Star, Dreamers is a celebration of making your home with the things you always carry: your resilience, your dreams, your hopes and history. It's the story of finding your way in a new place, of navigating an unfamiliar world and finding the best parts of it. In dark times, it's a promise that you can make better tomorrows. This lovingly-illustrated picture book memoir looks at the myriad gifts migrantes bring with them when they leave their homes. It's a story about family. And it's a story to remind us that we are all dreamers, bringing our own strengths wherever we roam. Beautiful and powerful at any time but given particular urgency as the status of our own Dreamers becomes uncertain, this is a story that is both topical and timeless. The lyrical text is complemented by sumptuously detailed illustrations, rich in symbolism. Also included are a brief autobiographical essay about Yuyi's own experience, a list of books that inspired her (and still do), and a description of the beautiful images, textures, and mementos she used to create this book. A parallel Spanish-language edition, Soñadores, is also available. Winner of the Pura Belpré Illustrator Award! Book Relative Chronology in Early Greek Epic Poetry

Download or read book Relative Chronology in Early Greek Epic Poetry written by Øivind Andersen and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2011-12-15 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book sets out to disentangle the complex chronology of early Greek epic poetry, which includes Homer, Hesiod, hymns and catalogues. The preserved corpus of these texts is characterized by a rather uniform language and many recurring themes, thus making the establishment of chronological priorities a difficult task. The editors have brought together scholars working on these texts from both a linguistic and a literary perspective to address the problem. Some contributions offer statistical analysis of the linguistic material or linguistic analysis of subgenres within epic, others use a neoanalytical approach to the history of epic themes or otherwise seek to track the development and interrelationship of epic contents. All the contributors focus on the implications of their study for the dating of early epic poems relative to each other. Thus the book offers an overview of the current state of discussion.

Book Basements and Attics Closets and Cyberspace

Download or read book Basements and Attics Closets and Cyberspace written by Linda M Morra and published by Wilfrid Laurier Univ. Press. This book was released on 2013-01-24 with total page 349 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Women’s letters and memoirs were until recently considered to have little historical significance. Many of these materials have disappeared or remain unarchived, often dismissed as ephemera and relegated to basements, attics, closets, and, increasingly, cyberspace rather than public institutions. This collection showcases the range of critical debates that animate thinking about women’s archives in Canada. The essays in Basements and Attics, Closets and Cyberspace consider a series of central questions: What are the challenges that affect archival work about women in Canada today? What are some of the ethical dilemmas that arise over the course of archival research? How do researchers read and make sense of the materials available to them? How does one approach the shifting, unstable forms of new technologies? What principles inform the decisions not only to research the lives of women but to create archival deposits? The contributors focus on how a supple research process might allow for greater engagement with unique archival forms and critical absences in narratives of past and present. From questions of acquisition, deposition, and preservation to challenges related to the interpretation of material, the contributors track at various stages how fonds are created (or sidestepped) in response to national and other imperatives and to feminist commitments; how archival material is organized, restricted, accessed, and interpreted; how alternative and immediate archives might be conceived and approached; and how exchanges might be read when there are peculiar lacunae—missing or fragmented documents, or gaps in communication—that then require imaginative leaps on the part of the researcher.
