Download or read book Work for Peace Classic Reprint written by William Charles Braithwaite and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-06 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Work for Peace Robably the reason why so few people do peace work is that so few take the trouble to study the question. There is a great difference between holding peace principles in the vagueness of tradition and grasping them With the intelligent conviction that comes from personal examination. Surely those who feel a sense of the awful horror of war, its ghastly cruelty, its pandering to every savage lust of humanity, its sheer futility, its oppressive burden, should also feel it a duty to read the subject up so that they may have an answer to - give for the faith that is in them. Book Universal Peace Classic Reprint

Download or read book Universal Peace Classic Reprint written by Victor Hugo Duras and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-30 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Universal Peace The sole reason that prompts me to publish this work on peace is my deep interest in the subject, which I consider the greatest and most laudable that has ever engaged the sober thought of a people. For years I have watched this universal movement, and have borne in mind the conclusions set forth in this book; but I had not considered the time auspicious or opportune for making these views public, for fear they might have been considered impracticable, idealistic and chimerical. Even to-day, while the influences that bind the world together in common interests are seen at work, I am not satisfied that my most worthy and learned reader will not consider me a dreamer, and I can' ask only for his indulgence while I portray the future in the colors of the past, sincerely hoping that time will bear me out in my predictions, which are based entirely upon historical facts. It must be fought, as intemperance must be fought, by counter-attractions, by building up a rival ideal. The qualities which have won it a reputa tion as a school of patriotism must be shown at work in the service of other and nobler causes. Book The Christian Doctrine of Peace Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Christian Doctrine of Peace Classic Reprint written by James Hastings and published by . This book was released on 2015-09-27 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Christian Doctrine of Peace My father has left a volume on Peace. Shortly before his death he corrected the final proofs. It is fitting so, for during his life he preached peace. In his 'Notes of Recent Exposition' in the Expository Times he wrote of the Copenhagen Conference, and quoted these words of Dr. Jowett: 'I was impressed with the grave necessity of demonstrating our will-to-peace as men demonstrated their will-to-war. ... Behind Governments and politicians, behind diplomatists and militarists, there is a great silent world of men and women yearning for peace. Delegates from every land spoke about it.... The people are not numb; they are only dumb. They do not lack heart, they are only in want of a voice. They cannot demonstrate their desires. They cannot speak so as to make Governments hear and heed. They need an organ of expression, and where can they find an organ except in the Church of the Living God? What is the Church for but to be a mouth for the dumb, an instrument to utter the silent yearnings of the purest and the best in every land?' But Dr. Hastings believed that a further duty is laid upon the Church. The people are not all seeking an 'organ of expression, ' for they are not all seeking peace. A fresh moral force to move them to the will-to-peace is needed. He hoped that preachers in all Churches would make Peace a message in the coming winter. My books have been read. Clearly, by evidence of the things that have been said of them. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from After the Peace Is the capitalist system breaking down as a method of production? The question may sound to most readers absurd, and when it is put in its concrete form, it may appear more absurd still. Are we nearing a point, within a few years, when it will be generally evident that, under the capitalist system, we can no longer obtain the food, fuel, clothes and houses necessary to maintain the dense populations of Europe at a civilized level of comfort and well-being? In Central Europe, in Italy and in Russia all intelligent men and women have been forced, by the dire experience of privation, to put this question, and to answer it according to their lights. In this country, though we are alarmed by the fall in the real value of money, and know that high prices mean the scarcity of goods, our case is still so far endurable that few of us have begun to question the ability of a society based on profit as its motive force, to provide us with our daily bread.
