Download or read book The Wood Turner s Handybook written by Paul N. Hasluck and published by Read Books Ltd. This book was released on 2020-09-17 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “The Wood Turner's Handybook” is a comprehensive guide to woodworking, focusing on the use of the lathe. The 'lathe' is a machine for shaping wood, metal, or other material by means of a rotating drive that turns the piece being worked on against changeable cutting tools. Exploring the tools, machinery and and processes involved in wood turning, this classic handbook contains a wealth of information that will be of utility to woodworkers old and new. Paul Nooncree Hasluck (1854 – 1916) was an Australian engineer and editor. He was a master of technical writing and father of the 'do-it-yourself' book, producing many books on subjects including engineering, handicrafts, woodwork, and more. Other notable works by this author include: “Treatise on the Tools Employed in the Art of Turning” (1881), “The Wrath-Jobber's Handy Book” (1887), and “Screw-Threads and Methods of Producing Them” (1887). Many vintage books such as this are increasingly scarce and expensive. It is with this in mind that we are republishing this volume now in an affordable, modern, high-quality edition complete with a specially-commissioned new biography of the author.

Book Woodturning for Beginners Handbook

Download or read book Woodturning for Beginners Handbook written by Stephen Fleming and published by Stephen Fleming. This book was released on 2020-08-12 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When Rude Osolnik was asked, "Rude, how do I become a good turner?" he replied, "Stand at the lathe." Well, that's the key! Of all the woodworking crafts I have practiced, Turning demands most patience and focus. As you start, you have to find your comfort zone with a lathe, chisels, and other tools. After some practice, your mind and body would get attenuated to the ecosystem of Turning. As lathe is involved and the wood item revolves fast, always remember that overconfidence and lack of focus are not options. So find your sweet spot of how long you can work at a stretch. When I first started woodcraft, I looked desperately for a go-to guide about the processes and tools I would need. The content I found online was total information overload and wasn't presented sequentially. The books I looked at were either focused on just a few processes or assumed that I already had the necessary information. A lot of the books were also very dated. There are two ways of learning; one is learning from SMEs (Subject Matter Experts) with years of experience, and the other is to learn from people who are just a few steps ahead of you in their journey. I fall into the latter group. I have spent five years on this hobby and am still learning from the experts. I still remember the initial doubts I had and the tips that helped me. This book is for those who are still running their first lap (0-3 years) in wood-crafting and want to have a holistic idea of the processes and tools they need. Topics Covered ✓ Introduction to Wood Turning ✓ Process & Techniques ✓ Finishing ✓ Safety and Best Practices ✓ 10 Beginner Woodturning Projects ✓ Tips, Glossary, and Conclusion I have included ample photographs of realistic beginner projects, and I will explain the processes and standard operating procedures associated with them. In the last chapter, I have provided tips for beginners and a glossary of woodturning terms. So what are you waiting for? Get this updated book from someone who is a few steps ahead in the Wood Turning journey! "If you don't blow up a bowl now and then, you are not aren't trying hard enough"- D. Some of the matter and illustra tions may be identified as having been taken from various technical periodicals to which they were originally contributed by me. A few of the items originated from other sources, but have been rewritten for publication in this hand-book. The lathe, which is claimed to be the creator of mechanism, is a machine in which all mechanics should be interested. A knowledge of the art of turning finds useful application in all the mechanical arts. Not only is a large proportion of the community employed in these arts, but individuals interest themselves in their practice, as affording pleasurable and profitable recreation. Turnery occupies many workmen, and has special claims on amateurs. If this handybook tends to promote this fascinating and useful art my object will be attained. Book Woodturning Book for Beginners

Download or read book Woodturning Book for Beginners written by Luke Byrd and published by Luke Byrd. This book was released on 2021-01-14 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Were you fascinated by a woodturning project you came across and have since then, searched the Internet for one book with all the juicy bits of information in the art of woodturning? Maybe you have found some books but weren't too thrilled by the things you saw enough to start something? If so, then read on… The answers to all your questions are here, dear turner or turner-to-be! This book, Woodturning Book for Beginners, amazingly has virtually everything, and by everything, I mean the tips, techniques, guidelines, pictures, and instructions you will need to make you feel like you are in a classroom where the art of woodturning is taught. Are you perhaps just hearing of the lathe machine? Have you probably gotten intimidated by the somewhat complicated way a lathe device looks like? You know, you can't really judge a book by its cover. Relax and know what this art entails first. Trust me; you'll love it. What exactly does woodturning entail? Woodturning is an art that involves the turning of a wood stock on a lathe device that is either mounted on a bench or bolted to the floor. So, while the wood is turned, you will work a series of cutting tools through the wood to cut through it. You wouldn't believe it, but the principle of woodturning has been in existence for a pretty long time. The only issue is that the projects made in the past could not stand the test of time since they rotted quickly. However, the devices got better and more efficient over the years, causing many people to take this art as a hobby and job, even! There are now preservative agents and finishes that prevent the wood from rotting. The lathe device is cheap, and as long as you can exercise a lot of patience while reading through the guidelines you will see in this book, you will be good to go. Perhaps you have seen some wood-work projects and gotten awed by them? Do you see yourself doing something very similar to those things? Yes? Then this book is just what you need. Just like the name suggests, this book is very suitable for beginners, but then you don't remain a beginner at the end of the book. You come out neatly polished and ready to make professional turnings. Experts in woodturning art are also free to peruse this book as it will refine them even more and add to what they already know. At the end of this book, you will; 1. Be familiar with the historical bit of information and the timelines in which the lathe machine existed. 2. Be enlightened on the techniques, tips, and tools that will guide you in producing your first woodturning project. 3. Be aware of what to do to keep yourself safe and free from any potential hazard while using the lathe device. 4. Be educated on the tools and materials needed for your projects, including how to source the right tools and materials. 5. Kickstart your woodturning experience with the help of 15 woodturning project ideas with well-detailed directions. 6. Be aware of the common woodturning mistakes to avoid, including having pre-informed knowledge of the most frequently asked woodturning questions. …And a whole lot more! Download or read book The Creative Woodturner written by Terry Martin and published by Linden Publishing. This book was released on 2014 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Creative Woodturner is not your usual "how-to" woodturning book. It won't tell you what a chuck is, how to sharpen a scraper, or how to turn a goblet. Instead, this book is a "how-to" for unlocking curiosity, how to break the rules, and for following one's own artistic path with confidence. Designed to give readers a wide-perspective on creativity, The Creative Woodturner begins first with insightful commentary, quotes, and examples from the woodturning and art community that will both inspire and inform. In addition, the author shares his Idea Tools: questions to ask during the planning and creative process that are as important to the creation of the woodturning project as any equipment in the shop. Finally, 16 one-of-a-kind projects--from boxes and vessels to bowls and one-of-a-kind scultpures--are featured that will spark the creative mindset of any woodturner.
