Book Wood Machining

Download or read book Wood Machining written by J. Paulo Davim and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-05-10 with total page 243 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wood as an engineering material can be technically defined “as a hygroscopic, orthotropic, biological, and permeable material having extreme chemical diversity and physical complexity with structures, that vary extensively in their shape, size, properties and function”. Therefore, using wood to its best advantage and most efficiency in engineering applications, specific characteristics or chemical, physical and mechanical properties must be considered. The products are divided into two classes, solid wood and composite wood products. Solid wood includes shipbuilding, bridges, flooring, mine timbers, etc. Composite wood products include insulation board, plywood, oriented strand board, hardboard and particle board. In recent years, the machining of wood products has acquired great importance due the short supply of wood and increasing environmental awareness among users and manufacturers. The optimization of the machining process centers around the mechanism of chip formation, tool wear, workpiece surface quality, crack initiation and propagation of different types of wood. Other factors are also humidity, temperature, static preloads, and vibrations that can affect the wood during the machining process. The book provides some fundamentals and recent research advances on machining wood and wood products.

Book Mechanics of Wood Machining

Download or read book Mechanics of Wood Machining written by Etele Csanády and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-08-01 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The new edition of this textbook, while largely retaining the proven chapter structure of the previous editions, combines the quantitative, mathematical analysis of the mechanisms of wood processing with practical recommendations and solutions. It presents new theoretical and experimental approaches and offers a clear and systematic overview of the theory of wood cutting, thermal loading in wood-cutting tools, optimum choice of operational parameters, dynamic behavior of tool and workpiece, stability problems in wood machining, energy requirements, the wear process of tools and a unique analysis of surface roughness. In general, diagrams are provided to help quickly estimate various process parameters. As a modern and powerful tool, the process optimization procedure is also included, and amply demonstrated in worked-out examples. In this edition, new and updated material has been added in many sections: roughly a third of the book has been rewritten and a quarter of the figures are new. In addition, many figures have been revised for clarity. The authors are confident that this revised and expanded edition will continue to meet the needs of all those working in the field of wood machining.

Book Machining Technology for Composite Materials

Download or read book Machining Technology for Composite Materials written by H Hocheng and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2011-11-28 with total page 488 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Machining processes play an important role in the manufacture of a wide variety of components. While the processes required for metal components are well-established, they cannot always be applied to composite materials, which instead require new and innovative techniques. Machining technology for composite materials provides an extensive overview and analysis of both traditional and non-traditional methods of machining for different composite materials. The traditional methods of turning, drilling and grinding are discussed in part one, which also contains chapters analysing cutting forces, tool wear and surface quality. Part two covers non-traditional methods for machining composite materials, including electrical discharge and laser machining, among others. Finally, part three contains chapters that deal with special topics in machining processes for composite materials, such as cryogenic machining and processes for wood-based composites. With its renowned editor and distinguished team of international contributors, Machining technology for composite materials is an essential reference particularly for process designers and tool and production engineers in the field of composite manufacturing, but also for all those involved in the fabrication and assembly of composite structures, including the aerospace, marine, civil and leisure industry sectors. - Provides an extensive overview of machining methods for composite materials - Chapters analyse cutting forces, tool wear and surface quality - Cryogenic machining and processes for wood based composites are discussed
