Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Theology of the Body (TOB) Children's Book. Through the use of beautiful illustrations and simple yet truthful and medically correct language, this book explains the majesty God designed into the full, free, faithful, and fruitful communion of spouses that allows "man" to "image" the Trinity, who creates out of love, in order to share love. Complete with biblical and literary references, and granted both the Nihil Obstat (by Msgr. Brian Bransfield) and the Imprimatur (by Archbishop Charles Chaput), Wonderfully Made! Babies will enrich your child's understanding of life's bigger picture while affirming his or her personal worth and place in the world. Here's what one priest has to say about the book: "Our Lord Jesus, the Son of the living God, said 'Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.' Matthew 19:14. He wants to implant and pour into the heart and soul of children the seed of the Kingdom of His Father. This wonderful book, with a beautiful text, easy to read and understand, and with lively art work, will plant into children the seeds of Jesus' understanding of man and woman. This little book is the "Theology of the Body" for children--get it and give it to children, give it to schools and to Religious-ed classes. I see Pope John Paul II laughing in heaven, amazed that his Theology of the Body has been written in such a way that children can understand it. May he intercede and bless the authors and the illustrator." Fr. Pio Mandato, FMHJ

Book Fearfully and Wonderfully Made

Download or read book Fearfully and Wonderfully Made written by Megan Best and published by InterVarsity Press. This book was released on 2012 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What sort of contraception, if any, should I use? When does human life begin-at fertilisation or at some point after that? What are the arguments for and against abortion? Is it OK to use genetic screening and other pre-natal tests to check for abnormalities in my unborn baby? Should Christians use IVF and other assisted reproductive technologies? What is the current state of embryonic stem cell research? These are just some of the many complex and emotion-laden questions we face in the rapidly changing field of reproductive medicine, and most Christians do so with two very significant handicaps: We dont have accurate up-to-date information about the medical and technological issues involved; we have not thought through a sound, biblical framework for making ethical decisions in this area. Dr Megan Best provides what is lacking in both of these vital areas. Built on extensive historical, biblical and medical research, FEARFULLY AND WONDERFULLY MADE is the comprehensive, accurate, biblically-based ethical handbook that Christians have been waiting for.

  • Publisher : Crown

  • Pages : 290 pages

Download or read book Just Babies written by Paul Bloom and published by Crown. This book was released on 2014-11-11 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A leading cognitive scientist argues that a deep sense of good and evil is bred in the bone. From John Locke to Sigmund Freud, philosophers and psychologists have long believed that we begin life as blank moral slates. Many of us take for granted that babies are born selfish and that it is the role of society—and especially parents—to transform them from little sociopaths into civilized beings. In Just Babies, Paul Bloom argues that humans are in fact hardwired with a sense of morality. Drawing on groundbreaking research at Yale, Bloom demonstrates that, even before they can speak or walk, babies judge the goodness and badness of others’ actions; feel empathy and compassion; act to soothe those in distress; and have a rudimentary sense of justice. Still, this innate morality is limited, sometimes tragically. We are naturally hostile to strangers, prone to parochialism and bigotry. Bringing together insights from psychology, behavioral economics, evolutionary biology, and philosophy, Bloom explores how we have come to surpass these limitations. Along the way, he examines the morality of chimpanzees, violent psychopaths, religious extremists, and Ivy League professors, and explores our often puzzling moral feelings about sex, politics, religion, and race. In his analysis of the morality of children and adults, Bloom rejects the fashionable view that our moral decisions are driven mainly by gut feelings and unconscious biases. Just as reason has driven our great scientific discoveries, he argues, it is reason and deliberation that makes possible our moral discoveries, such as the wrongness of slavery. Ultimately, it is through our imagination, our compassion, and our uniquely human capacity for rational thought that we can transcend the primitive sense of morality we were born with, becoming more than just babies. Paul Bloom has a gift for bringing abstract ideas to life, moving seamlessly from Darwin, Herodotus, and Adam Smith to The Princess Bride, Hannibal Lecter, and Louis C.K. Vivid, witty, and intellectually probing, Just Babies offers a radical new perspective on our moral lives.
