Book 100 Years since the Great Union of Romania

Download or read book 100 Years since the Great Union of Romania written by Dan Dungaciu and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2019-11-06 with total page 445 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 100 Years since the Great Union of Romania is a pertinent witness to the course of Romanian political thinking. It confirms that December 1918 demands to be celebrated as a fundamental historical event, which imparts a prominent force to the continuing dynamics of the preposition ‘since’, potentiating it not only with the structural valences of the initial moment and the starting point, but also giving it the meaning of the plenary symbols of a historical act which, after 100 years, celebrates its establishment by reaffirming and confirming its fully-mature vocation. This volume is dedicated to the 100 years since the Great Union of all Romanians. It will appeal to the wider academic community, PhD students, professors, and researchers, and to any reader interested in history, history of political thoughts, political philosophy and science or international relations.

Book Romania Culture Smart

Download or read book Romania Culture Smart written by Debbie Stowe and published by Kuperard. This book was released on 2017-05-01 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A land of mountains, hills, and fertile plains, Romania is a tourist destination waiting to be discovered. It is a rich and complex country: a place whose cities are home to beautiful parks and vibrant cultural scenes; whose people welcome guests warmly into their homes, sharing the best of whatever they have, and party into the night, suffused by Latin joie de vivre. Buffeted over time between three great powers—the West, Russia, and Turkey—Romania betrays the cultural influences of each, and it can be a difficult place to get a handle on. Culture Smart! Romania provides an indispensable tool for the foreign visitor, digging deep behind the clichés, explaining many of the behavioral quirks of the people, smoothing your path toward better understanding, and outlining the many attractions—cultural, social, and geographical—that await you in this underexplored part of Europe.

Book Under the Shadow of the Almighty

Download or read book Under the Shadow of the Almighty written by Elena Bujor and published by TEACH Services, Inc.. This book was released on with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The post-war times were hard for poor Romania, especially for the peasants. After Communism came to power, they were deprived of their most basic means of livelihood. A few years after the end of the war, the Iorga family, like many other well-to-do families, was left in poverty. By the time Elena was a toddler, the food was more and more scarce. … One day, she looked at her mother's tear-stained face in bewilderment as their food supplies were being confiscated." Life was difficult for everyone in Communist Romania but especially hard for Seventh-day Adventists. On Elena's first day of first grade, her teacher called the roll; when Elena stood and told her name, the teacher called her an "'idiot child' who believed in God, went to church on Saturday, and thought she would go to heaven. And, to make the children laugh at me, he said sarcastically, 'When the Lord comes to take you to heaven, I will cling to your foot, and I will get there, too.'" But thanks to a loving family and close-knit church family, Elena grew up secure in their love and God's love. She attended college to become a dental lab technician. Her first marriage ended in divorce, but she was left with a son, Silviu, the light of her life. After emigrating to the United States, she worked as a housekeeper and eventually found love again with Emil Bujor, who became a true father to Silviu. Elena endeavors to see and listen to God's will for her and her little family through it all. You'll laugh and cry at the ups and downs of Elena and Emil's lives as they struggle to understand and follow God's leading through the years.

Book 100 year old Romanian Recipes and Advice from My Great Grandmother

Download or read book 100 year old Romanian Recipes and Advice from My Great Grandmother written by Cristina Popa Tache and published by ePublishers & Editura Coresi. This book was released on with total page 125 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A PRECIOUS DISCOVERY As it was summertime and holiday period, I started renovating my parents’ house. With trembling emotion I came across some maps and notebooks that timeworn—some were culinary recipes, others were tips for the household, written by my great grandmother—Tudora and completed by my grandmother Elena. Probably between 1918–1924, judging by its appearance, it had been written and used in a school for girls, where household courses were taught (teachers had studies in this field and diplomas were awarded). After a time of great emotion, I realized that it would be good to let those around me know about my discovery, especially since I noticed a historical coincidence, the year 2018 being a centenary of the Great Union Day that every Romanian celebrates on December 1st. Among the writings forgotten in the attic and discovered by me, there were books of theological courses and a watch that belonged to my mother’s father, Efrem Ionescu—priest and Conservatory graduate. An outstanding figure of his time and region (together with Saint Calinic, he founded the church in Bueşti, Ialomita), he was spoiled every day of his life not only by his grandmother Elena (teacher of tens of generations), through the joy of the healthiest and tastiest food, but also by his mother—Paraschiva and his mother-in-law—Tudora. It was like going back in time. One of the notebooks is presented to you today to make use with the pleasure of the recipes and tips of the 1920’s, but also to compare these recipes with others, collected in time. The book is in fact a basis for what was commonly eaten in those times. Of course, I will also publish in a subsequent volume the other recipes I discovered, but I decided to present, above all, this booklet, taking advantage of the relaxing moments offered by the summer. This is how it is that today, almost 100 years after its writing, my great grandfather’s book makes sure we will not forget what the main recipes and tips in any settlement were. The pages of today’s booklet are packed with photos from which it appears that their way of socialization was much stronger than today’s. The housewives of the time excelled in culinary arts, competing in the preparation of the dishes, enjoying them every week when they met in the family. At one point, the communists seized power and confiscated their assets, many of them inherited; only a few objects have escaped, and the scars still remain now, only to be transformed into stars. One of the pages of the booklet presents the confiscation report and shows what was taken exactly at some point. However, what belonged to education and, in essence, to the main heritage of the family, was saved. Read the book to find out much more... Cristina Popa Tache

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cherie Y. Mullins is the wife of Evangelist Roger Mullins. She is the daughter of the late Leo and Beverly Forse, of Binghamton, NY. As she grew up, they were members of the well-known Lit-tle White Church of Conklin, NY. Her family and church foundations play a tremendous role in her life of ministry with her husband today. As a couple, they have served the Lord faithfully in full-time evangelism, Christian music, and missionary work since 1969. They reside in McDonough, GA and are members of Glen Haven Baptist Church. She studied piano from first grade through high school and continues using her musical talent today. During their years on the road, she sang and played the piano as “Mama” in The Mullins Family as they traveled America in evangelism and gos-pel music from 1978 – 1994. Her family has recorded forty music projects which include a piano solo CD by Cherie. To-day, she works daily in the office of Hope for the World Albania with her husband, Roger and their daughter, Cindy. Since 1994, they have been ministering to thousands of orphan children of Albania, hundreds of senior citizens and the handicapped through Hope for the World as Directors of this ministry. This book is her third in a series under the title of “The Making of a Wonderful Life” . The first was subtitled “Recording Reflections” and specifically pertained to two of the family’s recording projects produced in the 90’s. Her second book was subtitled “Family Foundations” and covered Cherie’s childhood days through the beginning of Bible College for her husband. This book, subti-tled Joyous Journey takes you through their lives from 1970—1994 in which they were involved full-time as a family in church ministry, evangelism and gospel music. Cherie believes she has one more book to write which will portray their years since 1994 in the field of foreign mission work in the country of Albania with Hope for the World. They have fo-cused on assisting orphans, widows, and handicapped and sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ. She believes that book will be subtitled “Mission Memoirs”, or something very similar. She hopes to have that one published within a couple of years. It is her desire that as you read this book, you will get to know her family personally and understand all that went into The Making of “their” Won-derful Life through this volume subtitled “Joyous Journey”.

Book excerpt: “At a time when we are all forced to stay at home, travelling in the kitchen can be a great comfort. And I have been so grateful for Irina Georgescu for taking me to Romania through the pages of her wonderful book, Carpathia. Every page is imbued with generosity, the spirit of community, and the flavours of a rich and varied culture: it makes for an uplifting, inspiring and gorgeously transporting read right now.” Nigella Lawson Carpathia invites you to explore Romania’s unique, bold and delicious cuisine: an exciting and unexpected amalgamation of all its diverse influences. As a cultural melting pot its character is rooted in many traditions from Greek, Turkish and Slavic in the south and east, to Austrian, Hungarian and Saxon in the north and west. From chargrilled aubergines, polenta fritters and butterbean hummus, to tangy borş, stuffed breads and Viennese-style layer cakes, Irina Georgescu has created over 100 mouth-watering dishes that are easy to make and a joy to share. “I couldn’t be happier to see one of my favourite cuisines being represented by a voice as warm and thoughtful as Irina Georgescu's. Carpathia is full of delicious and interesting recipes and photos that will tempt you to travel to the Carpathian Mountains immediately.” Olia Hercules, author of Mamushka and Kaukasis. “I’ve spent the day reading Carpathia by Irina Georgescu… I can’t wait to make her smoked ham hock with butter beans, oven-baked barley with chicken, peppers and mushrooms, fried chicken with caramelised quince and - most of all - ossobucco with dill oil and horseradish sauce… Carpathia is a book I’m going to get stuck into this autumn.” Diana Henry “The recipes are both wonderfully enticing and extremely approachable, and there’s a deftness to the writing that is very beguiling…. And the food is fascinating: a mix of the familiar and the unfamiliar… It offers a welcome window into Romanian culture. And the best thing about it is the love for family and country that just sings through the pages.” Fuchsia Dunlop "An absolutely beautiful book showcasing Romanian food as a wondrous amalgam of Europe's diverse cuisines. Real, delicious and accessible - I will be making everything from the plācintā to prajitura, cremsnit to cataif!" Helen Goh, co-author of Sweet with Yotam Ottolenghi. "Carpathia takes the reader roaming through Romania from Transylvania to the Danube Delta while introducing dozens of satisfying recipes that express the landscape, culture and joys of traditional Romanian hospitality. This is a book of many virtues, filled with new ideas, flavours and insights.” Caroline Eden, author of Samarkand and Black Sea. "A beautiful book full of life and flavour; I not only want to try so many of the recipes, I now want to visit the country that inspired them.” Mark Diacono, author of Sour, The New Kitchen Garden and A Year at Otter Farm.
