Book The Secret Thoughts of an Unlikely Convert

Download or read book The Secret Thoughts of an Unlikely Convert written by Rosaria Champagne Butterfield and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Rosaria, by the standards of many, was living a very good life. She had a tenured position at a large university in a field for which she cared deeply. She owned two homes with her partner, in which they provided hospitality to students and activists that were looking to make a difference in the world. In the community, Rosaria was involved in volunteer work. At the university, she was a respected advisor of students and her department's curriculum. And then, in her late 30s, Rosaria encountered something that turned her world upside down -- the idea that Christianity, a religion that she had regarded as problematic and sometimes downright damaging, might be right about who God was. That idea seemed to fly in the face of the people and causes that she most loved. What follows is a story of what she describes as a train wreck at the hand of the supernatural. These are her secret thoughts about those events, written as only a reflective English professor could."--Back cover.

Book Faith Switch The Great Conversion

Download or read book Faith Switch The Great Conversion written by David L. Brown and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2012-06 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Great Conversion takes a hard look at the truth behind the unyielding depravities that plague America with a special focus on the African American culture. Many professed believers think they have a personal faith walk with God, yet cannot understand why tribulations persist in their personal lives and their communities. This book exposes that there are many who have professed belief in God's Messiah, but, their faith is integrated with false spiritual and political dogma, true repentance from their sinful nature eludes them. Thus, a counterfeit faith is born. However, this book directs the reader to Biblical truth and will show God's perspective in regards to society's errors about moral issues; therefore, helping professed Christians see where they are in error, and where their loyalties ought to lie. Consequently, true holiness will be achieved. God will be [positively] provoked to intercede for those who were once deceived, resulting in genuine salvation, harmony and godly prosperity. David L. Brown has lived in historic Charles City County, Virginia most of his life. For years, he has spoken passionately about America's disregard for God's will concerning social and political issues that influence our lives. This book serves to remind individuals that God's way and His thoughts are without recanting and must always be embraced. Brown is also the author of Like Fire Shut Up in My Bones.

Book The Dearth of Conversions

Download or read book The Dearth of Conversions written by Andrew Murray and published by Aneko Press. This book was released on 2022-12-01 with total page 63 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. – 1 John 1:9 When a physician takes charge of a patient, the first thing he seeks to know is the nature and extent of the evil he must deal with. That is why he spends so much time and thought on the careful observation of the symptoms. The success of the treatment depends entirely on the accuracy of the diagnosis. Even so, in dealing with the great question of the lack of conversions in the church of Christ, it is not enough that we acknowledge the truth of what is said, or actively set out to specify what we think is the best way to bring about a change. If the church is to fully realize what is wrong with her condition, and if it is to find the path in which God alone can lead her out of it, then believers and ministers must be brought low before the Lord and seek Him, the Great Physician, to reveal and remove the sin and restore that conversion power that comes from Him alone. Let us, then, in the spirit of humbling ourselves before God, and in dependence upon the Holy Spirit, ask God to show us what the allegation implies – that the church of Christ is losing the power of conversion, of bringing sinners to the Savior. List of Chapters 1. The Evil 2. What the Evil Means 3. The Cause 4. The Cure

Book The Gospel Call and True Conversion

Download or read book The Gospel Call and True Conversion written by Paul Washer and published by Reformation Heritage Books. This book was released on 2013-06-21 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The apostle Paul gave the gospel the first place in his preaching, endeavored with all his might to proclaim it clearly, and even went so far as to pronounce a curse upon all those who would pervert its truth. Yet how sad it is that many, even among those considering themselves evangelicals, have reduced the gospel message to a few trite statements to be repeated, and view conversion as a mere human decision. In The Gospel Call and True Conversion , Paul Washer challenges such easy believism as he examines the real meaning of things like faith, repentance, and receiving Christ. He also deals extensively with the effects of saving grace that God promises in the new covenant; namely, the creation of new hearts and new people. Table of Contents: PART ONE: The Gospel Call 1. A Call to Repentance 2. A Call to Faith 3. Believe and Confess 4. Receiving Christ 5. Christ at Heart’s Door PART TWO: New Hearts and the Nature of True Conversion 6. The Great Motive and End of Salvation 7. The Author of Salvation 8. Separation and Cleansing 9. A New Heart 10. The Effectual Spirit PART THREE: New People and the Nature of True Conversion 11. The Glory of the New Covenant 12. The Making of New People 13. The Christian’s Sure Knowledge of God 14. The Heart and Way of God’s People 15. The Everlasting Covenant 16. God’s Goodness to His People Series Descriptions Although the Recovering the Gospel Series does not represent an entirely systematic presentation of the gospel, it does address most of the essential elements, especially those that are most neglected in contemporary Christianity. It is the hope of the author that these words might be a guide to help you rediscover the gospel in all its beauty, scandal, and saving power. It is his prayer that such a rediscovery might transform your life, strengthen your proclamation, and bring the greatest glory to God.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “As Jesus passed on from there, he saw a man called Matthew sitting at the tax office; and he said to him, ‘Follow me.’ And he rose and followed him.” — Matthew 9:9 Conversion. The word is often associated with a one-time event, such as the call of Saint Matthew. But even for Matthew, that call was only the beginning, the moment when he started following Jesus. For Matthew, as for all the saints, his conversion lasted a lifetime. Real conversion — repentance and turning toward God — is a process that happens daily. It is our continual "yes" to the Lord and the grace he offers us. In A Life of Conversion, Derek Rotty walks through eight Gospel passages that reveal essential lessons about conversion. Through these stories from Scripture, you will encounter Christ again and again, and, with him as your model, you’ll be drawn into a deeper relationship with the master of conversion. Each chapter includes reflection questions that are perfect for both individual and group study. ABOUT THE AUTHOR Derek Rotty is a husband and father. For more than a decade, he has ministered in Catholic parishes, helping children, teens, and adults find deeper encounters and relationships with Jesus. He currently serves as Director of Evangelization and Discipleship at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Jackson, Tennessee. He has written for The Catechetical Review, Crisis Magazine, Catholic Exchange, and the West Tennessee Catholic. To learn more, visit www.derekrotty.com.

Book Amazing Conversions

Download or read book Amazing Conversions written by Bob Altemeyer and published by Prometheus Books. This book was released on 2010-10-04 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This groundbreaking study uncovers fascinating new data on sudden shifts in religious and nonreligious belief. Amazing Conversions explores, for the first time ever, the reasons why converts join, and apostates go. The focus of this absorbing study is on some amazing people, with unique stories to tell those who join a religious group in spite of being raised in nonreligious (or even antireligious) families, and those who, at great personal cost, choose to leave religion in spite of having a deeply religious background. Why would an atheist''s son become a Christian fundamentalist? Why would a "good Catholic girl" decide that she really is an atheist? The authors of Amazing Conversions, both social psychologists, surveyed thousands of young adults to find that small number who were "amazing believers" or "amazing apostates." These rare individuals tell their stories, which are supplemented by their responses to a detailed questionnaire. The resulting picture shows that amazing believers and amazing apostates are dramatically different groups of people, in spite of the fact that their lives now stand in opposition to previous (non)religious training. You, too, can complete the same questionnaire to learn more about yourself and your beliefs. Have you experienced an amazing conversion?

Download or read book Taking Root written by Diana Kleyn and published by Reformation Heritage Books. This book was released on 2019-12-21 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The picture of a plant taking root is used in the Bible to teach us the idea of conversion. When someone’s heart is turned from himself and his sinful ways to faith in Jesus and devotion to God, it is like a plant which starts to shoot out roots into rich soil so that it can live and take nourishment. There is no way for a plant to have life unless it takes root, and there is no way for a person to have spiritual life unless God turns him or her out of the way of death and into the way of life. The stories in this book have to do with plants taking roots. But as you read through them, you will not run across tales of flowers, leaves, and dirt as much as you will about spiritual plants in the garden of the Lord. They are stories about how God gives people new spiritual life by rooting their hearts in the grace of His Son Jesus Christ. Read these stories and take the time to ask God about causing your heart to take deep root into the life-giving soil of Jesus. Contents: Taking Root 1. A Little Girl’s Sin Found Out 2. The Pickpocket’s Story 3. A Change of Heart 4. Martha’s Bible 5. “What Shall It Profit?” 6. God’s Word Satisfies 7. A Mocking Discussion of the Bible 8. Shusco the Indian 9. Afraid to Go Home 10. The stories are based on true happenings, gleaned from a variety of sources, and rewritten for contemporary readers. Each story accompanies a passage of Scripture, and is intended to illustrate that particular biblical truth. Some stories are shorter, some longer. However, all will capture the attention of children, and hopefully their hearts. Every story begins with a Scripture verse and ends with questions for understanding the story, further points to think about, and directions for prayer.

Book excerpt: Does what a church believes about how people become Christians change how we do evangelism? In this concise book, Michael Lawrence explains the doctrine of conversion and helps us consider the relationship between what we believe about how people are saved and our approach to sharing the gospel in the context of the local church. Readers of this book will understand how the local church should participate in the conversion process through ordinary means, such as biblical preaching and intentional relationships.
