Download or read book The Other Without Fear Favour Or Prejudice written by Chris N. Greenland and published by . This book was released on 2010-08-19 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Told by a Zimbabwean judge, this is an intriguing biography spanning the southern African region during revolutionary times. Australia had the "Stolen Generation". Southern Africa now has "The Other". The backdrop of this enthralling story is the beauty and magic of Africa with its animals playing starring roles. It tells of how an ordinary life became extraordinary on account of the accidents of history and circumstance. Anecdotally, fundamental issues about justice, racism, ethnicity, xenophobia, systemic corruption/patronage, affirmative action, and their subsets, such as capital punishment, rape ... are confronted on the basis of "convenient untruth" and "inconvenient truth". Should be of special interest to historians, jurists, human rights activists, legal scholars, southern Africans and all people concerned with truth and justice.A "must read" for Zimbabweans in the Diaspora. Of immense interest to members of the NAACP in America.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The impartial administration of justice and the accountability of government officials are two of the most strongly held American values. Yet these values are often in direct conflict with one another. At the national level, the U.S. Constitution resolves this tension in favor of judicial independence, insulating judges from the undue influence of other political institutions, interest groups, and the general public. But at the state level, debate has continued as to the proper balance between judicial independence and judicial accountability. In this volume, constitutional scholar G. Alan Tarr focuses squarely on that debate. In part, the analysis is historical: how have the reigning conceptions of judicial independence and accountability emerged, and when and how did conflict over them develop? In part, the analysis is theoretical: what is the proper understanding of judicial independence and accountability? Tarr concludes the book by identifying the challenges to state-level judicial independence and accountability that have emerged in recent decades, assessing the solutions offered by the competing sides, and offering proposals for how to strike the appropriate balance between independence and accountability.

He was Minister of Edinburgh for twelve years, preaching to the King and the court. These sermons on Hebrews11 show a truly remarkable example of post-reformation preaching, heard in the Great Kirk of St Giles, in the heart of Scotland's capital. David Searle has undertaken the huge task of putting these sermons into the English alphabet, translating them from the Braid Scots, so they can edify the church today.

Book excerpt: Amoral, cunning, ruthless, and instructive, this multi-million-copy New York Times bestseller is the definitive manual for anyone interested in gaining, observing, or defending against ultimate control – from the author of The Laws of Human Nature. In the book that People magazine proclaimed “beguiling” and “fascinating,” Robert Greene and Joost Elffers have distilled three thousand years of the history of power into 48 essential laws by drawing from the philosophies of Machiavelli, Sun Tzu, and Carl Von Clausewitz and also from the lives of figures ranging from Henry Kissinger to P.T. Barnum. Some laws teach the need for prudence (“Law 1: Never Outshine the Master”), others teach the value of confidence (“Law 28: Enter Action with Boldness”), and many recommend absolute self-preservation (“Law 15: Crush Your Enemy Totally”). Every law, though, has one thing in common: an interest in total domination. In a bold and arresting two-color package, The 48 Laws of Power is ideal whether your aim is conquest, self-defense, or simply to understand the rules of the game.

Download or read book Good Anxiety written by Wendy Suzuki and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2022-09-06 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: World-renowned neuroscientist and author of Healthy Brain, Happy Life has developed an “absolute game-changer” (Conscious Conversations podcast) for managing unwarranted anxiety and turning it into a powerful asset. We are living in the age of anxiety, a situation that often makes us feel as if we are locked into an endless cycle of stress, sleeplessness, and worry. But what if we had a way to leverage our anxiety to help us solve problems and fortify our well-being? What if, instead of seeing anxiety as a curse, we could recognize it for the unique gift that it is? As a neuroscientist, Dr. Wendy Suzuki has discovered a paradigm-shifting truth about anxiety: yes, it is uncomfortable, but it is also essential for our survival. In fact, anxiety is a key component of our ability to live optimally. Every emotion we experience has an evolutionary purpose, and anxiety is designed to draw our attention to a number of negative emotions. If we simply approach anxiety as something to avoid, get rid of, or dampen, we actually miss an opportunity to not only manage the symptoms of anxiety better but also discover ways to improve our lives. Listening to our worries from a place of curiosity, instead of fear, can actually guide us onto a path that leads to joy. “Suzuki draws on decades of neuroscience, including her own research, and leavens her learning with a little personal storytelling to create a practical, science-backed guidebook for those seeking such a transformation” (The Wall Street Journal).

Book Finding Favour in the Sight of God

Download or read book Finding Favour in the Sight of God written by Richard P. Belcher Jr. and published by InterVarsity Press. This book was released on 2018-09-18 with total page 263 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There has been an explosion of interest in wisdom literature, and many studies are now available. There is every opportunity for people to "get wisdom, get insight" (Prov. 4:5). However, in today's world it seems the practical sensibilities that come from wisdom are found in very few places. Wisdom literature is needed now more than ever. By walking in the way of wisdom, we will "find favour and good success in the sight of God and man" (Prov. 3:4). In this New Studies in Biblical Theology volume, Richard Belcher begins with a survey of the problem of wisdom literature in Old Testament theology. Subsequent chapters focus on the message and theology of the books of Proverbs, Job, and Ecclesiastes. These point forward to the need for Christ and the gospel. Belcher concludes by exploring the relationship of Christ to wisdom in terms of his person, work, and teaching ministry. Addressing key issues in biblical theology, the works comprising New Studies in Biblical Theology are creative attempts to help Christians better understand their Bibles. The NSBT series is edited by D. A. Carson, aiming to simultaneously instruct and to edify, to interact with current scholarship and to point the way ahead.
