Book Within and Without Eternity

Download or read book Within and Without Eternity written by Jules van Lieshout and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2022-05-20 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: William Blake's literary works are characterized by a ceaseless dynamics constituted in the fierce interactions of the language, thought, and narrative of his myth. Highlighting the critical problems facing the linear approach that the study of Blake has adopted from the traditional methodology of Newtonian science, Jules van Lieshout argues that nonlinearity is the key to understanding Blake's prophecies. Throughout his discussions, Van Lieshout focuses on the relation of Blake's Generation and Eternity, which he identifies as Bakhtinian 'world views'. In Generation, existence is finalized as a hierarchy of geometric 'dark globes', each assuming the character of universal whole to the exclusion of all others. Eternity, on the other hand, is Blake's fractal 'human form' of existence that is continuously organized and reorganized in the dynamic interaction of whole and parts. Blake represents these world views as interinvolved. Their dynamic interaction reflects and refracts his conceptual thought, mythological narrative, and poetic language. Hence, his visionary epic self-organizes into a self-similar complex system whose patterns of behaviour are not merely remarkably like those that modern applications of nonlinear dynamics are revealing in the physical world, but are indeed inherent in the processes of writing and reading his individual works.

Book Thinking Translation Perspectives from Within and Without

Download or read book Thinking Translation Perspectives from Within and Without written by Rebecca Hyde Parker and published by Universal-Publishers. This book was released on 2008 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a collection of selected articles based on talks given by established academics and translators, as well as younger researchers, at the third postgraduate symposium organized by the School of Literature and Creative Writing at the University of East Anglia, UK. The objective of the third postgraduate translation symposium at the University of East Anglia was to explore the current relevance of theory to the practice of translation. This volume builds on the key ideas and discussion that arose from the symposium, bringing together, amongst others, the current debates concerning the complex relationship between theory and practice in the field of translation studies, taking into consideration a wide range of perspectives, both modern and traditional. A broad cross-section of research exploring the present relevance of translation theory to practice is presented by many of the individual contributors to this volume. These papers provide both current theoretical insights into the relevance of theory to translation and also, in some examples, offer first-hand experiences of applying appropriate strategies and methods to the practice and description of translation.

Book Hip Hop within and without the Academy

Download or read book Hip Hop within and without the Academy written by Karen Snell and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 2014-07-29 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hip-Hop Within and Without the Academy explores why hip-hop has become such a meaningful musical genre for so many musicians, artists, and fans around the world. Through multiple interviews with hip-hop emcees, DJs, and turntablists, the authors explore how these artists learn and what this music means in their everyday lives. This research reveals how hip-hop is used by many marginalized peoples around the world to help express their ideas and opinions, and even to teach the younger generation about their culture and tradition. In addition, this book dives into how hip-hop is currently being studied in higher education and academia. In the process, the authors reveal the difficulties inherent in bringing this kind of music into institutional contexts and acknowledge the conflicts that are present between hip-hop artists and academics who study the culture. Building on the notion of bringing hip-hop into educational settings, the book discusses how hip-hop is currently being used in public school settings, and how educators can include and embrace hip-hop’s educational potential more fully while maintaining hip-hop’s authenticity and appealing to young people. Ultimately, this book reveals how hip-hop’s universal appeal can be harnessed to help make general and music education more meaningful for contemporary youth.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In some ways, Canadian history has always been international, comparative, and wide-ranging. However, in recent years the importance of the ties between Canadian and transnational history have become increasingly clear. Within and Without the Nation brings scholars from a range of disciplines together to examine Canada’s past in new ways through the lens of transnational scholarship. Moving beyond well-known comparisons with Britain and the United States, the fifteen essays in this collection connect Canada with Latin America, the Caribbean, and the wider Pacific world, as well as with other parts of the British Empire. Examining themes such as the dispossession of indigenous peoples, the influence of nationalism and national identity, and the impact of global migration, Within and Without the Nation is a text which will help readers rethink what constitutes Canadian history.

His eye balls were rolling inside his skull as he came out of Cecilia's home. "What is the problem?" we asked him. This is not the person I use to know because his behavior changed. As we began to pray for him, he turned violent that three of us could hardly hold him down. About one hundred and forty four demons were cast out of him. The last twelve demons refused to leave as they claimed ownership of this brother. We stood our ground that brother Paul is a child of God. We rebuked and cast them out. Reluctantly they left, remaining their leader that also left after all false claims. This violent brother by now was slain in the spirit and slept like a baby for quite some time. When he woke up he looked surprised wondering what has happened. What happened was that he had gone and laid hands on this said Cecilia when he heard her screaming and shouting. Cecilia was not born again and had been demon possessed and ran mental for years. The junior sister who is a Christian shared with us in fellowship how the demons that visit or that are in her senior sister Cecilia one day threw her, the junior sister out of her own room to the outside. Download or read book Evil Within and Without written by Miryam T. Brand and published by Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht. This book was released on 2013-05-15 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Miryam T. Brand explores how texts of the Second Temple period address the theological problem of the existence of sin and describe the source of human sin. By surveying the relevant Apocrypha, Pseudepigrapha, and Dead Sea Scrolls, as well as the works of Philo and (where relevant) Josephus, the study determines the extent to which texts' presentation of sin is influenced by genre and sectarian identification and identifies central worldviews regarding sin in the Second Temple period. The analysis is divided into two parts; the first explores texts that reflect a conviction that the source of sin is an innate human inclination, and the second analyzes texts that depict sin as caused by demons. The author demonstrates that the genre or purpose of a text is frequently a determining factor in its representation of sin, particularly influencing the text's portrayal of sin as the result of human inclination versus demonic influence and sin as a free choice or as predetermined fact. Second Temple authors and redactors chose representations of sin in accordance with their aims. Thus prayers, reflecting the experience of helplessness when encountering God, present the desire to sin as impossible to overcome without divine assistance. In contrast, covenantal texts (sectarian texts explaining the nature of the covenant) emphasize freedom of choice and the human ability to turn away from the desire to sin. Genre, however, is not the only determining factor regarding how sin is presented in these texts. Approaches to sin in sectarian texts frequently built upon already accepted ideas reflected in nonsectarian literature, adding aspects such as predestination, the periodization of evil, and a division of humanity into righteous members and evil nonmembers.
