For Trisha Bernard, the answer’s clear: escape to India, armed with a copy of the Kama Sutra. That’s how she readied herself should love (or lust) strike in the land of Kama Sutra. But, as it always happens, not everything goes quite as planned. At the last minute, she’s joined by her long-lost eccentric shopaholic friend who travels with a monster-sized suitcase with its untidy collection of clothes, maps, pamphlets, plastic bags and some secret womanly stuff. Navigating the chaotic streets of India in death defying auto-rickshaws and traversing the country on overcrowded trains and rattling buses the two find themselves almost marooned and camel-napped in the Thar desert and later attacked in no uncertain terms by an amorous monkey in New Delhi... Then, there’s India itself, where strangers share chai, samosas, gossip and much else at roadside dhabas existing in the middle of nowhere... With Kama Sutra to inspire passion, the two friends lead us on a wacky and witty romp through one of the most fascinating potpourri of cultures.

Book excerpt: The Kama Sutra is an ancient Indian Hindu text widely considered to be the standard work on human sexual behavior in Sanskrit literature written by Vatsyayana. A portion of the work consists of practical advice on sexual intercourse. It is largely in prose, with many inserted anustubh poetry verses. "Kama" which is one of the four goals of Hindu life, means desire including sexual desire, the latter being the subject of the textbook, and "sutra" literally means a thread or line that holds things together, and more metaphorically refers to an aphorism (or line, rule, formula), or a collection of such aphorisms in the form of a manual. Contrary to western popular perception, the Kama Sutra is not exclusively a sex manual; it presents itself as a guide to a virtuous and gracious living that discusses the nature of love, family life, and other aspects pertaining to pleasure-oriented faculties of human life. The Kama Sutra, in parts of the world, is presumed or depicted as a synonym for creative sexual positions; in reality, only 20% of the Kama Sutra is about sexual positions. The majority of the book, notes Jacob Levy, is about the philosophy and theory of love, what triggers desire, what sustains it, and how and when it is good or bad. The Kama Sutra is the oldest and most notable of a group of texts known generically as Kama Shastra. Historians believe the Kama Sutra to have been composed between 400 BCE and 200 CE.[10] John Keay says that the Kama Sutra is a compendium that was collected into its present form in the 2nd century. The Kama Sutra is an ancient Indian Hindu text widely considered to be the standard work on human sexual behavior in Sanskrit literature written by Vatsyayana. Book KAMA The Story of the Kama Sutra

Download or read book KAMA The Story of the Kama Sutra written by Misra, Jaya and published by Om Books International. This book was released on 2018-05-05 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Who was Vatsyayana? What motivated this intriguing personality in the third century to compile ancient erotic texts, replete with his witty aphorisms, into the Kama Sutra, the ultimate treatise on love and the art of lovemaking? Kama is a fictionalised account of the life and times of Vatsyayana. Seemingly, a manual for the hedonist about town, the Kama Sutra reveals another tale—written in blood—of broken hearts, lyrical violence, ageless love, and unbridled lust! Set in 273 AD, in a land fraught with war and unrest, Kama is the story of a catastrophic day in a writer-artist’s life that sets him off on a journey unto himself, beyond the boundaries of love, family and betrayal. This fast-paced story of tragedy and triumph beguiles and captivates as it flits seamlessly between an agonising past, an erotic present and a cataclysmic future."

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Kama Sutra of Vatsyayana Vatsyayana - The Kama Sutra of Vatsyayana by Richard Francis Burton is an edition of the ancient Indian text on sexuality and emotional needs. Vatsayana was an ancient Indian philosopher who lived during the second or third century. Although it is often thought of as a sex manual, it is much more, with guides on living well, the nature of love, and finding a partner. Indeed, Vatsyayana says himself: 'This work is not to be used merely as an instrument for satisfying our desires'. Burton did not in fact translate the Kama Sutra - it was translated by the Indian scholar Bhagwan Lal Indraji. It was edited by Burton to suit prevailing British attitudes to sex, but was still banned in England and the United States until 1962. Other criticisms levelled at Burton's translation is that instead of using English words for the sex organs, he uses the words 'lingam' and 'yoni', despite those words not appearing in the original work. This was seen as an attempt to distance them and make them 'other', rather than about English people's sexual organs. He also removes the agency of women, and where in the original, women's words are direct quotes, in the Burton translation, women's words are removed and put into the passive state (i.e., A woman saying 'Stop!' becomes 'She continually utters words expressive of prohibition'). Despite all this, it has been such an influential translation that even modern editions in the Hindi language are re-translations of the Burton version. The Kama Sutra is an ancient Indian Hindu text widely considered to be the standard work on human sexual behavior in Sanskrit literature written by Vaatsyayana.
