Book WISEgenerosity

Download or read book WISEgenerosity written by Christopher Gabriel and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2024-01-09 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The question was, “What am I supposed to do in life?” The answer: “Be generous.” Think about the most successful people you know—those with wealth, power, and status. Are they happy? Are they enlightened? Are they fulfilled? Maybe . . . and maybe not. Sometimes, the glitz of a social media façade hides a lonely, unfilled, and unrewarding life. Chances are, the happiest, most grateful, and most graceful people you know are the ones who have prioritized more than simple “success.” Instead, these are the women and men who have chosen a different path—an others-first perspective that prioritizes giving over self-gratification and self-promotion. And not just generosity—WISEgenerosity. In this landmark work, Chris Gabriel presents the guidebook on generosity for the modern age. Forgoing outdated and superficial assumptions about vague, undirected, merely “feel-good” giving, Chris brings laser focus to generosity that is W.I.S.E.: Well-grounded Inspired Satisfying Effective Filled with practical instruction, uplifting stories, challenging self-examination exercises, and detailed models, WISEgenerosity cuts through the confusion surrounding why to give, how to give, what to give, when to give, and where to give. Then, it takes you by the hand and walks you down a thoughtful, proven path to a purposeful and productive life—your best life—with generosity that is meaningful and effective for both the giver and the receiver. This is WISEgenerosity.

Book The Bodhisattva Path to Unsurpassed Enlightenment

Download or read book The Bodhisattva Path to Unsurpassed Enlightenment written by Asanga and published by Shambhala Publications. This book was released on 2016-03-08 with total page 801 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A complete translation of Asanga's classic work on the distinguishing qualities of bodhisattvas that describes how to awaken, develop, and perfect the mind of enlightenment in the Great Vehicle, or Mahayana, Buddhist tradition. Arya Asanga, famous for having been the conduit through which the teachings contained in the Five Texts of Maitreya were received and recorded, is also considered to be the author in his own right of several other foundational works of Yogācāra philosophy. One of these, considered the definitive text of the Yogācāra school of Buddhism, is the encyclopedic synthesis of Mahayana Buddhist doctrines and practices known as the Yogācārabhūmi, or "Stages of Spiritual Practice." The Bodhisattvabhūmi, or "Stages of the Bodhisattva Path," is one portion of that massive work, though it is considered a stand-alone text in the Tibetan traditions--for example, it is counted among the six core texts of the Kadampas. However, despite the text's centrality to the Yogācāra school and its seminal importance in the Tibetan traditions, it has remained unavailable in English except in piecemeal translations; Engle's translation will therefore be especially welcomed by scholars and students alike.

Book The Economics of Neighborly Love

Download or read book The Economics of Neighborly Love written by Tom Nelson and published by InterVarsity Press. This book was released on 2017-09-05 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Gospel Coalition Book Award What does the good news of Jesus mean for economics? Too often, Christian teaching and ministry have focused only on the gospel's spiritual significance and ignored its physical, real-world ramifications. But loving our neighbor well has direct economic implications, and in our diverse and stratified society we need to grapple with them now more than ever. In The Economics of Neighborly Love pastor Tom Nelson sets out to address this problem. Marrying biblical study, economic theory, and practical advice, he presents a vision for church ministry that works toward the flourishing of the local community, beginning with its poorest and most marginalized members. Nelson resists oversimplification and pushes us toward more complex and nuanced understandings of wealth and poverty. If we confess the gospel of Jesus, he insists, we must contend anew with its implications for the well-being of our local communities. Together we can grow in both compassion and capacity.
