The Wisdom of the Vedas was first published in 1931 by Kailas Press under the title India's Outlook on Life. The present 1992 edition was edited to reflect the modern use of inclusive language, and includes an introduction by Vedic scholar David Frawley. Mr. Frawley explains to the Western reader, "The Vedas are the original scripture or source teaching of the Hindu tradition, from which its many branches of Vedanta, Yoga, and Tantra have emerged through time, and to which they all look back with reverence." The Vedas are also "..the background relative to which the Buddhist religion evolved, and Buddhism also preserves many Vedic terms and practices." The study then, of the Vedas is important to understanding many different Eastern teachings. Download or read book The Wisdom of Yoga written by Stephen Cope and published by Bantam. This book was released on 2006 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For modern spiritual seekers and yoga students alike, here is an irreverent yet profound guide to the most sophisticated teachings of the yoga wisdom tradition–now brought to contemporary life by a celebrated author, psychotherapist, and leading American yoga instructor. While many Westerners still think of yoga as an invigorating series of postures and breathing exercises, these physical practices are only part of a vast and ancient spiritual science. For more than three millennia, yoga sages systematically explored the essential questions of our human existence: What are the root causes of suffering, and how can we achieve freedom and happiness? What would it be like to function at the maximum potential of our minds, bodies, and spirits? What is an optimal human life? Nowhere have their discoveries been more brilliantly distilled than in a short–but famously difficult–treatise called the Yogasutra. This revered text lays out the entire path of inner development in remarkable detail–ranging from practices that build character and mental power to the highest reaches of spiritual realization. Now Stephen Cope unlocks the teachings of the Yogasutra by showing them at work in the lives of a group of friends and fellow yoga students who are confronting the full modern catastrophe of careers, relationships, and dysfunctional family dynamics. Interweaving their daily dilemmas with insights from modern psychology, neuroscience, religion, and philosophy, he shows the astonishing relevance and practicality of this timeless psychology of awakening. Leavened with wit and passion, The Wisdom of Yoga is a superb companion and guide for anyone seeking enhanced creativity, better relationships, and a more ethical and graceful way of living in the world.

This book was released on 2023-03-31 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book on the new paradigm of existential positive psychology (PP2.0) or second-wave positive psychology focusses on the importance of transcending or transforming negative experiences and emotions to achieve durable flourishing. The book offers exciting new concepts and skills in the practice of counselling psychology. Positive psychology is evolving due to changing times and circumstances. PP2.0 opens new vistas for research and interventions in counselling psychology and positive psychology. Instead of relying only on the positives, it posits the importance of navigating an optimal balance between positives and negatives in each context. It emphasizes the importance of inner peace, balance, and harmony rather than the pursuit of happiness or positive emotions. More importantly, PP2.0 is based on meeting the basic human needs for 1) the need to be liberated from the suffering and human bondage, 2) the hope of achieving a meaningful future, 3) the need to relate to others in a compassionate and authentic way so that people can experience genuine kindness and love, and 4) the deep-seated spiritual need for a sense of oneness with a Higher Power or nature. This volume explores ways to help individuals to be liberated from their inherent limitations and, at the same time, empower them to achieve their highest aspirations. With an updated Introduction, this book is the ideal companion for any student or practitioner looking for an insightful overview of positive psychology including humanistic psychology, existential positive psychology as well as counselling psychology. The chapters in this book were originally published as a special issue of Counselling Psychology Quarterly.
Download or read book THE YOGA THERAPY HANDBOOK BOOK ONE REVISED 2ND EDITION written by ROGER MARTIN DAVIS and published by AKU PRESS INTERNATIONAL. This book was released on 2015-03-27 with total page 125 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The long awaited revised 2nd edition of The Yoga Therapy Handbook has arrived! It is greatly expanded, colorful and much more descriptive than the original edition from 2007. The new version is contained in four distinct volumes (Book 1-4) that are being sold separately with an "a-la-cart" styling so readers can "pick and choose" from what works best for them as either a novice/beginner or advanced Yoga therapist. Perhaps, what is most intriguing, though, about this 2nd edition is that in the interim period the author made a dramatic and controversial decision to embrace Al-Islam. Accordingly, this edition wrestles with those quintessential elements that make a "comparative religion" flow to this text quite different than any other Yoga therapy book on the market today. The author also revives his review of the multicultural expressions as well in both Yoga Science and meditation practices. The creative artistic flair of the illustrator (Sue Jeong Ka) is still woven into the fabric of this text. This Fine Artist who is originally from South Korea (ROK) now lives and works in the USA (New York City. Surely, her talents have expanded since the first edition and we hope with the "print edition" to follow she add some new illustrations to enliven this text.

Download or read book Age of Joy written by Yaseva and published by Notion Press. This book was released on 2021-02-05 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Have you at some time or the other, wondered whether it is ever possible for human civilization to move away from its present inconsistent and jarring ways? Whether the deep-down-desires of human beings will ever get met in a widespread way? If the anxiety, uncertainty and confusion that seem to be the norm of these times, get replaced with rampant and pervasive peace, happiness and joy? Many feel that the world is progressing, especially with the advancement in technology and communication. But in reality, if one looks closely, it is debatable whether humanity is moving up or sliding down. The global pandemic, violent territorial disputes between nations, religious chauvinism, intolerance, extreme poverty, violence against women and children, trafficking, discrimination and so on are certainly not manifestations of human civilization progressing, it’s more like degeneration. The Climate Emergency we are living in is pushing the planet towards extinction. The unscrupulous pharmaceutical industry is exploiting the health system for financial gains. The humongous war and armament industry drives the economy of developed nations and subversively fuels conflicts and jingoism among neighboring nations to keep their market flourishing. The insatiable greed of corporate tycoons for endless growth and wealth-garnering has no consideration for the livelihood of the vulnerable, causing chronic inequity. The mindless destruction and pollution of the planet’s primary resources, namely air, water and earth, to boost GDP, carries on merrily. All these are categorized as aspects of ‘un-workability’ and left to persist as situations that we are expected to live with. Pursuit of Joy is the panacea for all social anomalies and will usher human civilization into the Age of Joy.
