Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a book for anyone who believes there may be some type of existence beyond the material plane in which humans live, love, struggle and die. Taking the ancient view that beings of tremendous power play a supporting role in human affairs, this tale imagines how busy the host of heaven must have been when the Creator chose a simple man to build an escape vehicle for the salvation of the human race. Wings of Mentridar follows the human and the angelic stories as they intertwine in this cosmic struggle. The search for and protection of wives for the chosen one's sons provide drama, romance and adventure, while the race to get the ark done and all aboard before the rain begins brings a compelling sense of urgency. The reader gets a look behind the curtain as details of life in another dimension are creatively portrayed. Whether one believes the ancient legend of a world-wide flood or not, Wings of Mentridar provides an entertaining glimpse into the affairs of men and angels which is imaginative and thought provoking.

Book Contingency and Fortune in Aquinas s Ethics

Download or read book Contingency and Fortune in Aquinas s Ethics written by John Bowlin and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1999-06-28 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this study John Bowlin argues that Aquinas's moral theology receives much of its character and content from an assumption about our common lot: the good we desire is difficult to know and to will, in particular because of contingencies of various kinds - within ourselves, in the ends and objects we pursue, and in the circumstances of choice. Since contingencies are fortune's effects, Aquinas insists that it is fortune that makes good choice difficult. Bowlin then explicates Aquinas's treatment of a number of topics in light of this difficulty: the moral and theological virtues, the first precepts of the natural law, the voluntariness of virtuous action, and the happiness available to us in this life. By noting that Aquinas proceeds with an eye on fortune's threats to virtue, agency, and happiness, Bowlin places him more precisely in the history of ethics, among Aristotle, Augustine, and the Stoics.

Book Kant s Doctrine of Transcendental Illusion

Download or read book Kant s Doctrine of Transcendental Illusion written by Michelle Grier and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2001-02-05 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This major study of Kant provides a detailed examination of the development and function of the doctrine of transcendental illusion in his theoretical philosophy. The author shows that a theory of 'illusion' plays a central role in Kant's arguments about metaphysical speculation and scientific theory. Indeed, she argues that we cannot understand Kant unless we take seriously his claim that the mind inevitably acts in accordance with ideas and principles that are 'illusory'. Taking this claim seriously, we can make much better sense of Kant's arguments and reach a deeper understanding of the role he allots human reason in science.

Book Europe s Nightmare

Download or read book Europe s Nightmare written by Miron Rezun and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2001-02-28 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent bombing campaigns and peacekeeping efforts have achieved a fragile and uncertain peace in Kosovo. However, NATO will need help from both the European Union and the United Nations to create and maintain a lasting peace in the region. An expert in the affairs of the troubled region, Rezun traveled to the crisis zone to interview Kosovar refugees and foreign statesmen. He offers a sharp critique of the conflict, taking NATO and the entire Western Alliance to task and emphasizing the villainous behavior of the Milosevic regime. One cannot consider what happened in Kosovo to be an isolated affair, Rezun contends. Based on the widest possible range of sources, including documentation in nearly every European language, this study will appeal to experts and laymen alike. Rezun refuses to take sides. In addition to his criticisms of foreign intervention, exaggerated statistics, and reverse ethnic cleansing, he is merciless in his condemnation of the Serbs, in particular the corrupt influence of Milosevic and the late Arkan. In writing laced with irony, wit, and satire, he reveals the foibles of limited war and the errors committed by all parties. Yet his primary focus remains on the sufferings of the men, women, and children who filled the refugee camps and the devastated villages to which they have returned.

Book New Benefits Now

Download or read book New Benefits Now written by Linda Simpson and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2017-10-13 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New Benefits Now introduces both a case for change and a playbook for employer sponsored healthcare benefits reform. It's time for CEO's, CFO's and CHRO's to step up, lean in and finally gain control of runaway costs and ineffectively regulated practices associated with insuring their employees. Business executives are an under leveraged resource when it comes to improving healthcare in America, despite the fact that they are the ones paying most of the bills. It is highly ironic that these Payers are the least included when politicians and others talk about re-shaping American healthcare benefits. The executives who lead American businesses have the most at stake, and yet receive the least guidance in the way of advice about how to influence providers and innovate internal practices that curtail waste, inaccuracy and greed. New Benefits Now changes everything. Business executives have not had a guide. They've not had a manual to show them how to manage healthcare benefits plans, until now.

  • Pages : 256 pages

Download or read book Zoe Akins written by Alan Kreizenbeck and published by Praeger. This book was released on 2004-07-30 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Zoe Akins was an artist who became successful as a Broadway playwright. For Akins, this was a hard earned title, which she achieved after years of false starts and near misses. She wrote over 40 plays, 18 of which appeared on the Broadway stage between 1919 and 1944. Also in her oeuvre are two novels, numerous short stories and essays, several film and television scripts, and two volumes of poetry. Akins constantly tried to balance her writing style so that it would suit her own moral code and simultaneously appeal to a paying audience. She was a woman in a field dominated by men, but she persevered and accomplished much including winning the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1935 for The Old Maid. This volume follows the progression of Akin's writing career. It primarily focuses on her Broadway plays, but also highlights other plays and writings (such as poems, film scripts, and short stories) which reflect various aspects of Akin's artistry. It will appeal to theatre, history, and women's studies scholars, as well as anyone interested in the literary career of a unique individual.
