Book Wings Across Europe

Download or read book Wings Across Europe written by Kenneth Button and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2017-07-05 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Airlines, like most industries, contain a mixture of good and badly managed companies (and perhaps more important, lucky and unlucky companies). More important in the longer-run is the institutional structure in which the companies offer their services. Air transport is a major industry in its own right. But it is also the fastest growing mode of transport for both passengers and freight, a large employer of labour, at the forefront of many technological developments and often a pioneer in adopting such innovations. It is the source of important economic stimuli for local economic development. This book examines the current state of European airlines - mainly, but not exclusively, those within the EU and the European Economic Area (EEA). It seeks in particular to determine if the current institutional structure provides a sustainable basis for the continued vitality of air transport as a facilitator of economic development, and it can serve as an input into wider matters involving the social and political integration within Europe. It also includes material on airports, slots and security. It provides the opportunity to look at factors that currently influence the efficiency of European airlines and to see how the industry has moved to meet these challenges. The book is also designed to be accessible with a glossary at the end, definitions of key terms and concepts, a list of abbreviations and acronyms and two annexes that provide more details of the European air transport market within the wider international regulatory system. The readership includes all concerned with airline and airport management, including regulators and government departments of transportation, and researchers in air transport. While of main interest to those in Europe, it is also important to all who are dealing with similar questions in other continents, and all concerned with inter-continental air transport provision. In the current aviation context the key features of the book are: "

Book excerpt: Though the interior of Irian Jaya, now called Papua, the Indonesian half of the Island of New Guinea, is not the end of the earth, it is said that "you can see it from here!" Ron and Mikel Ann Pritz relate some amazing missionary adventures working alongside the missionaries and national church leaders using aviation, helicopters, and light Cessna aircraft to reach the remarkably remote, primitive, and often hostile native tribes. Walk with the Pritzes as they prepare for the field and adjust to life in Indonesia. Live the adventures of trusting God for safety and protection from the ever-present danger of weather, terrain, and the challenging flying environment of New Guinea. Thrill with the advance of the gospel as whole tribes turn from animism and turn to the one true God. Grieve with the loss of dedicated young men and women who have sacrificed themselves in the pursuit of tribe upon tribe, turning to trusting God and putting their faith in Jesus Christ. Rejoice in the victories that come as new tribes come to Jesus. Join Ron and Mikel Ann and their two sons, Andy and Kevin, as they have the privilege of witnessing the transformation of primitive peoples into dedicated followers of Christ. Watch tribe after tribe move away from the hopelessness of their pagan roots to new life and new hope in the Lord Jesus.

Book Secret Wings of World War II

Download or read book Secret Wings of World War II written by Lance Cole and published by Pen and Sword. This book was released on 2015-06-30 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are many myths and legends surrounding the advanced German aeronautical technology of the Second World War. There are also facts and proven events. Yet within these stories and behind these facts lie conspiracy theories, mistaken assumptions and denials that seem to contradict the evidence. So what really happened? How far ahead were the German scientists? And, of even greater interest, why and how???There have been other books about advanced German wartime aeronautics, yet few authors have fully examined the detail of the designs and their relevance to the fighter and bomber legends of the 1950s and '60s, let alone the current crop of military and civil all-wing or blended-wing aircraft. This book charts the story from it origins, through current-day innovations and beyond, into the all-wing future of tomorrow.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “A compelling account of the air war against Germany” written by the navigator portrayed by Anthony Boyle in Apple TV’s Masters of the Air (Publishers Weekly). They began operations out of England in the spring of ’43. They flew their Flying Fortresses almost daily against strategic targets in Europe in the name of freedom. Their astonishing courage and appalling losses earned them the name that resounds in the annals of aerial warfare and made the “Bloody Hundredth” a legend. Harry H. Crosby—depicted in the miniseries Masters of the Air developed by Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg—arrived with the very first crews, and left with the very last. After dealing with his fear and gaining in skill and confidence, he was promoted to Group Navigator, surviving hairbreadth escapes and eluding death while leading thirty-seven missions, some of them involving two thousand aircraft. Now, in a breathtaking and often humorous account, he takes us into the hearts and minds of these intrepid airmen to experience both the triumph and the white-knuckle terror of the war in the skies. “Affecting . . . A vivid account . . . Uncommonly thoughtful recollections that address the moral ambiguities of a great cause without in any way denigrating the selfless valor or camaraderie that helped ennoble it.” —Kirkus Reviews “Re-creates for us the sense of how it was when European skies were filled with noise and danger, when the fate of millions hung in the balance. An evocative and excellent memoir.” —Library Journal “The acrid stench of fear and cordite, the coal burning stoves, the heroics, the losses . . . This has to be the best memoir I have read, bar none.” —George Hicks, director of the Airmen Memorial Museum

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The great civilization of India, which is known as Hindu culture, has contributed a lot in the field of science. This shows that they never promoted superstition, nor did the people remain undeveloped and ignorant. Aeronautical science in the twenty-first century is difficult and complex. In manufacturing an aircraft, each and every part of the aircraft has to be carefully tested and evaluated. Material selection, aerofoil selection, weight of the aircraft, thrust required etc. These factors have an impact in the manufacturing of aircraft. Many things were practiced repeatedly in Indian ancient aviation. They have told the material selection making vimana, the instruments used in vimana, the technique of making instruments, the weapons of the enemy vimana, the electric power that runs the vimana, the electric wire and the cover of the wire. This is surprising. I think we should try to study the Indian ancient culture once again. Maybe we can learn something from this. We may not be able to understand those techniques but we can definitely get new ideas to make things easier.

Book Wings of Gold

Download or read book Wings of Gold written by Wesley Phillips Newton and published by University of Alabama Press. This book was released on 2015-04-15 with total page 349 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wings of Gold is a unique contribution to the history of Naval aviation. The book sets out the almost day-to-day experiences and reactions of a cadet who went through the training program at its peak during World War II. An emphasis on training per se is missing in virtually all books dealing with the war; in this account training is the focus of interest. In contrast with official histories, this is a story of how it was, rather than how it was supposed to be. It chronicles failures as well as successes, frustrations as well as achievements. Beginning with an introduction treating the history of Naval aviation training, it focuses upon the personal experiences of an individual cadet preparing for war. In both the introduction and the personal letters that form the body of the book, the authors have kept both the home front and the battle front in sight. While millions of Americans underwent military training during World War II, only now is the survival, compilation, and publication of their correspondence becoming the concern of historians. This book should encourage that process.
