Book excerpt: In British Columbia's remote and exotic Cariboo Plateau, "Everything is slow. Everything is happening at the same speed, which is no speed at all." Harold Rhenisch has spent eleven years watching birds every day from his house on the shore of 108 Lake—at this speed, but you wouldn’t know it from reading Winging Home. Known as "one of Canada's master prose stylists," Rhenisch dissects avian behaviour with the ear of a poet and the mouth of a standup comedian. His blackbirds are a jug band in full flight, his robins drunken bachelors on a jag, and his eagles decrepit, stumblebum scavengers. With lively illustrations by noted bird artist Tom Godin, Winging Home: A Palette of Birds is more than just writing about the natural world. It is a lyrical, evocative memoir of life in the Cariboo that crackles with humorous, often startling observations of birds and men set amidst the wild beauty of British Columbia.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, you will read about my life and learn how and why traditional structures and ways of doing things have never really worked for me. Throughout my life, I've learned how to break away, make often frightening leaps, and forge my own path, flying by the seat of my pants! It's not always easy to run against the wind. You will encounter resistance. You will have doubts and doubters. You will need an inner resolve, one that can be cultivated and enhanced. Having grown up in India, Nigeria, the United States, and now calling Australia home, I have found that when it comes to forging your own path, there are no established rules. You have to make them for yourself. These ideas apply to life as well as business. This book will help you to learn how to back yourself. In developing my own rules, I've learned how to break away from expectations and unhelpful pressures, and found that the only way to fly is by truly winging it!

Book The Green winged Teal

Download or read book The Green winged Teal written by Gaston Moisan and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The green-winged teal is the smallest of our ducks. It is widely distributed, nesting from Alaska to Newfoundland and from the norther tree limit to central California and Maine, and wintering from British Columbia and Newfoundland south to Venezuela. As interest in waterfowl increases and the supply becomes less certain, the idea of regulating harvest by species has increased. It becomes increasingly important therefore, to learn and describe the population characteristics of each of the game species. Because of the currently low population levels of important waterfowl species such as the mallard, black duck, canvasback and redhead, regulations governing the hunting of these choice species have been restrictive. Thus species like the green-winged teal become more important as sources of additional hunting opportunity, but despite its wide distribution and rank among the 20-odd species in the harvest, information is lacking about its status. The present work reports a study of the distribution, migration, hunting kill, survival, and status of the green-winged teal in the New World.
