Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The remarkable story of how one of the most biologically diverse habitats in the world was destroyed, restored, and continues to evolve—with stunning, full-color photographs by two of the world’s best wildlife photographers. A Window on Eternity is a stunning book of splendid prose and gorgeous photography about one of the biologically richest places in Africa and perhaps in the world. Gorongosa National Park in Mozambique was nearly destroyed in a brutal civil war, then was reborn and is now evolv-ing back to its original state. Edward O. Wilson’s personal, luminous description of the wonders of Gorongosa is beautifully complemented by Piotr Naskrecki’s extraordinary photographs of the park’s exquisite natural beauty. A bonus DVD of Academy Award–winning director Jessica Yu’s documentary, The Guide, is also included with the book. Wilson takes readers to the summit of Mount Gorongosa, sacred to the local people and the park’s vital watershed. From the forests of the mountain he brings us to the deep gorges on the edge of the Rift Valley, previously unexplored by biologists, to search for new species and assess their ancient origins. He describes amazing animal encounters from huge colonies of agricultural termites to specialized raider ants that feed on them to giant spiders, a battle between an eagle and a black mamba, “conversations” with traumatized elephants that survived the slaughter of the park’s large animals, and more. He pleads for Gorongosa—and other wild places—to be allowed to exist and evolve in its timeless way uninterrupted into the future. As he examines the near destruction and rebirth of Gorongosa, Wilson analyzes the balance of nature, which, he observes, teeters on a razor’s edge. Loss of even a single species can have serious ramifications throughout an ecosystem, and yet we are carelessly destroying complex biodiverse ecosystems with unknown consequences. The wildlands in which these ecosystems flourish gave birth to humanity, and it is this natural world, still evolving, that may outlast us and become our legacy, our window on eternity.

Book Windows on Eternity

Download or read book Windows on Eternity written by Eva Wertenschlag-Birkhäuser and published by Daimon. This book was released on 2009 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many of the dream images painted by Swiss artist Peter Birkhauser (1911 76) portray the big problems of our time: our divisiveness, possession by unconscious factors, suffering from the loss of religious values, the Unknown God knocking at the door and wanting to enter, our inability to understand evil, the world of the feminine yearning for redemption, and so on. Because the paintings of Birkhauser come from the deep wells of dreams and give them authentic form, they are mirrors of healing processes in the soul. Marie-Louise von Franz said of Birkhauser's work, His paintings are not depictions of his own problems, but rather seek to reveal what is taking place in the depths of the collective unconscious in all of the people of our time. Because of this, they are not easy to decipher: they are simply there, and wish to be experienced. This book is an attempt to track down the meanings of the mysteries in the work of Peter Birkhauser. Included are 53 reproductions of paintings by the artist."

Book Window to Eternity

Download or read book Window to Eternity written by Edgar L. Biamonte and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2022-08-01 with total page 149 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Window to Eternity Book III is an advanced version of two books with similar titles written by Edgar L. Biamonte. Reading and evaluating countless near-death patients reporting their observations in the next world after being resuscitated provided information for him to detail the laws governing the spiritual planeaEUR"heaven. Stressed from teaching unruly high-school teenage boys during the wild sixties, he meditated twice daily for eleven years, unaware that it also enabled him to have paranormal experiences that included receiving telepathic messages from his mother, wife, and other souls in the next world. In fact, he theorizes that such contact is possible for whomever follows the Ten Commandments, meditates, and is basically loving and caring, especially those who avoid such temptations as stealing, cheating, and physically and/or mentally abusing others, hoarding, lust for acquiring money and material wealth, and so much more. In fact, behaving that way could invite demonic penetration of the psyche, causing nightmares, possession, and other negativity he also discusses. The Creator not only sent his emissary, the Virgin Mary, to appear before the three girls at Fatima in order to appease both sides slaughtering one another during World War I but also to stress the importance of loving and forgiveness as Jesus preached. Her appearance was one of humanityaEUR(tm)s greatest moments for proving that life continues after death as he contends. He also theorizes such subjects as how the Creator evolved that earth is the learning plane where objects are needed to learn how to give and receive and also that goodness and evil cannot be learned in the spiritual plane, which lacks objects or physical bodies. Joining the 686th Air Force Band as a pianist in 1950, he toured Europe with Frank Sinatra, Rhonda Fleming, Tony Curtis, Janet Leigh, and Ava Gardner. Discharged from the service in 1954, he received his BA in English from Queens College, Flushing, New York, in 1961 and his MS from Elmira College Graduate School in 1968. He also taught poetry and creative writing. Literary magazines published over 100 of his 325 poems, and many won or placed in contests before he retired in 1985. He self-published Window of Eternity in 1984 (Ashley Books) and Window to Eternity (Balboa Press), a sequel in May 2012. Litfire published The Jaws of Agnes in November 2014 and Welcome to Summersville, USA in May 2018. P.S. 201 and Mepham High School also followed suit in April 2019. An accomplished jazz pianist and composer, he was the solo pianist on several Carnival Cruise ships and Mariner of the Seas of Royal Caribbean Line and still plays piano professionally today.

Book Transparencies of Eternity

Download or read book Transparencies of Eternity written by Rubem A. Alves and published by Sapientia. This book was released on 2010 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a master of the word, Rubem Alves relates events and experiences in life where God, religiosity, love, beauty and the meaning of life are always present. They are his Transparencies of eternity a collection of poetic and spiritual chronicles in which the author draws transparent and multicolor stained glass windows, using as raw material the existence and the multiple faces of God: sometimes God is an artist, who gathers the shards of my stained glass, smashed by random stoning, and places them again in the cathedral s window so that the sun s rays may shine through them again; sometimes God is a great, huge Emptiness that encompasses the whole beauty of the universe. Even more: God is a parent who doesn t know how to add. God is not in the business of accounting God doesn t add up either virtue or sins. This is how love is. It has no why s. It is reasonless. Love for love s sake. No accounting of good or of evil. With such a God the universe becomes more humble. And fears vanish. In this book are collected texts that masterfully comprise both a profound knowledge and the major existential questions of humankind. The texts flow with a simplicity of rare beauty, and the result could not be better: spirituality is presented through a new lens, attracting, instigating and enchanting readers who want to broaden their horizons.

Book Eternity in the Midst of Time

Download or read book Eternity in the Midst of Time written by Fr. Wilfrid Stinissen and published by Ignatius Press. This book was released on 2019-01-21 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Can time be our friend? At first glance the question seems ridiculous, because the apparent scarcity of time is a constant source of stress in our busy lives. There are not enough hours in the day, we say as we collapse late at night. Deep down we know that we cannot go on like this. Father Stinnisen's book dares us to see time with new eyes. The insight that eternity is written in the depths of our hearts helps us to live in time in a way that leads us deeper into God's joy. We are like children in a land of fairy tales where everything is exciting and exploration never ends.We therefore should rejoice that everything around us is great and mysterious and that we can live in eternal wonder. His intention is not to explain what time is and thus take away its mystery. Instead, his aim is to show us how to see time from different perspectives and to discover how rich and multifaceted it is. Above all, he demonstrates how we can make use of the tremendous possibilities that time offers to us.

Book Again to the Life of Eternity

Download or read book Again to the Life of Eternity written by Frank A. Vaughan and published by Associated University Presse. This book was released on 1996 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This work postulates that the set of 116 designs by William Blake, illustrated herein, is not a series of individual responses to the pieces of text they accompany, nor is it a series of responses to the individual poems of Thomas Gray. The designs are also more than illustrations, or corrections, of Gray's speakers or of Gray himself. In the Gray designs, Blake was using the opportunity given him by John and Ann Flaxman in 1797 to explore and explain visually the reformist malaise in the reactionary nineties when the general economic well-being and optimism had been replaced by the effects of war and fear. For Blake, the collapse into the later 1790s is the failure of the imaginative will to sustain the impetus that the American and French Revolutions had begun." "Blake saw several causes for this failure of will and created a set of designs rich in allusions and dense with visual conventions. These visual topoi are personal, topical, classical, biblical, and literary." "Thus, there is a need for a study of the Gray designs that sees them as they are: a unity rich with visual conventions partaking of Blake's revolutionary pattern of development and desire to reshape in specific ways the mind of his audience."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc.
