Book excerpt: The Loch Sloy was built for Aitken, Lilburn & Co of Glasgow. She sailed between Britain and Australia for more than twenty years. In that time she established a reputation as a crack wool clipper. Windjammer, the story of the clipper ship Loch Sloy is not an adventure nor is it a romance or a tragedy, even though it contains elements of all three. The ship, her captains, officers, crew and passengers, all those her sailed upon her call out from the past to have their stories told. The Loch Sloy's' keel was laid down in mid-1877. By August the construction of the hull and deck fittings had been completed. After her first marine survey, the masts were stepped in, and by the end of October the Loch Sloy was all but complete. The clipper lasted twenty one years before coming to grief on the jagged shore of Kangaroo Island during the predawn hours of April 24th 1899. The final chapter of the Loch Sloy like her unfortunate passengers and crew was buried beneath the ever shifting sands of Maupertuis Bay.

But can she juggle two lovers and still find the time to solve the case of The Chinese Tiger Ying? New Zealand expat and Honolulu private detective T.J. O’Sullivan is good at finding things—whether it’s missing persons, stolen jewels, or the evidence that outs a cheating spouse. When a Honolulu antiques and cultural artifacts dealer hires T.J. to find a stolen three-thousand year old Chinese cultural relic called Tiger Ying, she gets busy looking. But that’s not all T.J. is looking to find. Languishing in unhappiness and despair fueled by her unrequited love for former mentor and colleague Ben Malone, T.J. is desperate to find a way to lift her sagging spirits and someone to fill the gaping romantic void in her life. Enter Nick, a gorgeous guy T.J. runs into while working her case. He seems to tick all the boxes, offering exactly what she thinks she wants and needs—a casual, unstructured relationship with heaps of NSA intimacy. But just when things seem to go so right it gets complicated. T.J. finds herself hooking up with her Honolulu detective ex-boyfriend who is helping with her case. Before she knows it she’s dating two hotties at the same time and loving every delicious moment. T.J. isn’t trapped in indecision. She has no intention of making a choice. Instead, she is stubbornly determined to hang on to both men. The two of them are so different, but both have qualities that spark her interest and her passions. Can T.J. find time to focus on solving her case while juggling two seriously hot lovers? Worse yet, will the lies and sneaking around catch up to her in the end causing her romantic life to go up in flames, leaving her back where she started, sad and alone?

Book Alexander Archipelago

Download or read book Alexander Archipelago written by Gustav Tjgaard and published by Strategic Book Publishing & Rights Agency. This book was released on 2015-05-21 with total page 359 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This eclectic series of twelve stories based on some of the life experiences of Gustav Tjgaard runs the gamut. The nonfiction narrative presents dramatizations set in the lush ambiance and grandeur of earth’s largest temperate rain forest. The book is a picture album of life in Alaska’s Tongass National Forest. These adventures and perilous undertakings occur in a forest of big trees, big birds, big fish, and big bears, where immense peaks are wrapped in great glaciers that break off into bays and fjords where big whales spout. The peaks are capped by perennial snows that form the highest coastal mountain range in the world, rising abruptly from salty coves to blue ice and black crags. Surely this is landscape to swell the soul and humble the ego. From Chapter 4: This was a phenomenon experienced in the dead of winter while at the author’s dacha on Baranof Island. The weather outside was malevolent with a wind factor that brought the temperature down to well below zero. Comforted by the warmth of the stove and a glass of Tennessee whiskey, while listening to Schumann’s “Waldszenen,” the author dozed off. It was in this state of mind that he recognized their midnight visitor was Percy, a former fiancé of his wife, Sophie. It wasn’t until the following spring that they learned Percy died two weeks before his visit.
