Book Wind tunnel Investigagion of an NACA 23102 Airfoil with a Handley Page Slat and Two Flap Arrangements

Download or read book Wind tunnel Investigagion of an NACA 23102 Airfoil with a Handley Page Slat and Two Flap Arrangements written by Sidney M. Harmon and published by . This book was released on 1942 with total page 10 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation was made in the 7- by 10-foot wind tunnel of an NACA 23102 airfoil equipped with a Handley Page slate and a slotted and a split flap. The purpose of the investigation was to determine the aerodynamic section characteristics of this airfoil with and without flaps, as affected by the location of the Handley Page slat. A range of slat-nose locations was investigated both with and without flaps at a constant slat gap, and the effect of slat gap was investigated for the slotted flap deflected 40 degrees. The slat position for maximum lift, polars for slotted and split flaps for the most favorable slat arrangements for maximum lift, and complete section data for the most favorable slat arrangements are included. Contours of slat-nose location are given for maximum lift coefficient, for angle of attack for maximum lift coefficient, and for drag and pitching moments at selected lift coefficients.

Book Studies of the Use of Freon 12 as a Wind tunnel Testing Medium

Download or read book Studies of the Use of Freon 12 as a Wind tunnel Testing Medium written by Albert E. Von Doenhoff and published by . This book was released on 1953 with total page 668 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A number of studies relating to the use of Freon-12 as a substitute medium for air in aerodynamic testing have been made. The use of Freon-12 instead of air makes possible large savings in wind-tunnel drive power. Because of the fact that the ratio of specific heats is approximately 1.13 for Freon-12 as compared with 1.4 for air, some differences exist between data obtained in Freon-12 and air. Methods for predicting aerodynamic characteristics of bodies in air from data obtained in Freon-12, however, have been developed from the concept of similarity of the streamline pattern. These methods, derived from consideration of two-dimensional flows, provide substantial agreement in all cases for which comparative data are available. These data consist of measurements throughout a range of Mach number from approximately 0.4 to 1.2 of pressure distributions and hinge moments on swept and unswept wings having aspect ratios ranging from 4.0 to 9.0, including cases where a substantial part of the wing was stalled.

Book Wind tunnel Investigation of an N A C A 23012 Airfoil with Two Arrangements of a Wide chord Slotted Flap

Download or read book Wind tunnel Investigation of an N A C A 23012 Airfoil with Two Arrangements of a Wide chord Slotted Flap written by Thomas Anthony Harris and published by . This book was released on 1939 with total page 12 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation has been made in the N.A.C.A. 7- by 10-foot wind tunnel of a large-chord N.A.C.A. 23012 airfoil with several arrangements of a 40-percent-chord slotted flap to determine the section aerodynamic characteristics of the airfoil as affected by slot shape, flap location, and flap deflection. The flap positions for maximum lift, the polars for arrangements considered favorable for take-off and climb, and the complete section aerodynamic characteristics for selected optimum arrangements were determined. A discussion is given of the relative merits of the various arrangements. A comparison is made of slotted flaps of different chords on the N.A.C.A. 23012 airfoil.

Book Aerodynamic Characteristics of a Leading edge Slat on a 35 Degree Swept back Wing for Mach Numbers from 0 30 to 0 88

Download or read book Aerodynamic Characteristics of a Leading edge Slat on a 35 Degree Swept back Wing for Mach Numbers from 0 30 to 0 88 written by John A. Kelly and published by . This book was released on 1951 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The data presented in this report were obtained by North American Aviation, Inc., from an investigation conducted in the Southern California Cooperative Wind Tunnel. Tests were made over a range of Mach numbers from 0.300 to 0.883 to determine the aerodynamic characteristics of a semispan model of a 35 degree swept-back wing equipped with a leading-edge slat and to gain additional knowledge of the aerodynamic loads and automatic operation of the slat. Lift, drag, and pitching-moment characteristics of a model wing in the presence of a fuselage were measured as well as pressures acting on the slat in the retracted and the full-open positions. The pressure data were analyzed to ascertain the opening characteristics of the slat for two possible circular-arc slat tracks which could be used for automatic operation of the slat.

This book was released on 1941 with total page 10 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation has been made in the NACA 7- by 10-foot wind tunnel of an NACA 23012 airfoil with a 30-percent-chord Maxwell leading-edge slat and with a slotted and a split flap. The purpose of the investigation was to determine the optimum slot gap of the Maxwell slat for, and the aerodynamic section characteristics of, the airfoil with several deflections of both types of flap. Curves of lift, drag, and pitching-moment characteristics for selected optimum arrangements are presented.
