Book Stationary Wind driven Currents in the Non homogeneous Ocean of Variable Depth

Download or read book Stationary Wind driven Currents in the Non homogeneous Ocean of Variable Depth written by Luch Mikhaĭlovich Fomin and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The theoretical basis of a computation method for steady wind-driven current velocities (the deep ocean with complex bottom topography) is discussed in this paper. The value of the water transport depends on the vorticity of shearing stress of the wind and on the bottom slope. Ways of transition from water transport to the current velocities in the individual layers are considered (a) when the water density distribution is known and (b) when the water mass structure corresponds to the given model. Book On Steady Wind driven Ocean Currents in a Stratified Model of Two Moving Layers

Download or read book On Steady Wind driven Ocean Currents in a Stratified Model of Two Moving Layers written by Worth D. Nowlin and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Considered are steady, wind-driven currents in a two-layer model ocean, confined within a rectangular basin with a horizontal sea bed. The horizontal velocities are assumed independent of elevation within each layer of this finite difference approximation to the continuously stratified real ocean. Neglecting nonlinear field accelerations, a frictional model for the entire basin is formulated which allows for vertical, but not horizontal, transfer of horizontal momentum due to turbulence. The exchange of horizontal momentum between layers and to the sea bed is provided through the assumption of interlayer and bottom stresses, which are assumed proportional to the vertical contrast of horizontal velocity across the appropriate interface. The constants of proportionality, which are estimated from considerations of the observed circulation, play decisive roles in controlling the circulation patterns within each layer and the internal dissipation of energy from the steady organized flow. The solution, obtained for a purely zonal wind stress which varies latitudinally as a cosine, depicts an anticyclonic circulation within the lower layer which is intensified more to the west than is the anticyclonic gyre within the upper layer. Numerical calculations were performed for a range of physical parameters. ...

Book Circulation Models of Lakes and Inland Seas

Download or read book Circulation Models of Lakes and Inland Seas written by Theodore J. Simons and published by Ottawa: Department of Fisheries and Oceans. This book was released on 1980 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this monograph is to present a state-of-the-art report on models of large-scale water circulations in lakes and seas. Specifically, this review is intended to provide the necessary background information for investigations of material transports and water quality problems in large natural basins. In view of the multidisciplinary nature of such studies, treatment of the present material starts from basic physical and mathematical principles.

Book Chemical Dynamics in Freshwater Ecosystems

Download or read book Chemical Dynamics in Freshwater Ecosystems written by Frank A.P.C. Gobas and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-01-18 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chemical Dynamics in Freshwater Ecosystems reviews the processes that control the distribution and impacts of chemical substances discharged into freshwater aquatic environments. The book focuses on the relationships between chemical emissions and the resulting ambient concentration in water, sediments, fish, benthos, plants, and other components of real aquatic ecosystems. Hydrodynamics, sediment dynamics, chemical fate processes, bioaccumulation, and food-chain transfer are major topics discussed in the book. Case studies and models are used to illustrate how quantitative predictions of chemical dynamics and behavior in the aquatic environment can be made. Chemical Dynamics in Freshwater Ecosystems is an excellent reference for aquatic toxicologists, wildlife toxicologists, wildlife biologists, environmental chemists, governmental regulators, environmental modelers, consultants, and students studying the effects of chemicals on aquatic environments.
