Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Plaisted Family of North Wilts: With Some Account of the Branches of Berks, Bucks, Somerset, and Sussex We need not, then, be affected with any pride of ancestry in order to cherish a lively desire for knowing and recording the origin and development of our family. Even if we can lay claim to no hereditary honours, we find our instincts explained by the contemplation of. Our descent, and while we seem to have lived in the persons of our forefathers, we also express in ourselves much of the spirit which governed their outlook. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Wiltshire Notes and Queries, Vol. 2: An Illustrated Quarterly Antiquarian and Genealogical Magazine; 1896-1898 Of these new houses, two, Restrop and the Church Farm, still remain unaltered, save in unimportant particulars, from the original design. That there were others built at the same time in the parish is unquestionable (although vestiges of the work of that period only appear in two other farmhouses, viz. 2 - Pevenhill Farm and the Ponds at Purton Stoke), for the records show that many families of good position were then residing in Purton. Of the early history of restrop we know nothing. Who was the builder and who were the first resi dents are questions that cannot yet be answered. There is a bare mention of the name, as a boundary, in a deed relating to the general inclosure, but beyond that there is nothing to tell, and yet it is as pure and good a specimen of Elizabethan architecture as could be found. The Brydges family owned the Church Farm1 and also the historic Nele's Place; the Sadlers were at Perenhill, and the Maskelynes at the Down. The Digges.
