Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How do you build a business when the economy is shot? - How do you transform your company meaningfully, truly empower your people and create a stronger organisation that can change the world? - How do you make the tough decisions in life, in business and in leadership, decisions that will benefit everyone in the long run? - Mike Abel, one of the founding partners of multi-award-winning advertising agency M&C Saatchi Abel, answers these questions and more. - Launched in 2010, M&C Saatchi Abel started out as an industry underdog in the aftermath of the 2008 financial crisis. In South Africa it was also the start of the Zuma presidency, a period of profound economic and business challenges. A decade later, and despite the odds stacked against them, the company's story is one of incredible success. From Nando's to Netflix, Takealot to TikTok, Standard Bank to The Street Store, M&C Saatchi Abel has built a reputation for bringing searing clarity and innovative solutions to the strategic challenges of a diverse range of businesses and causes. - In Willing & Abel, Mike reveals the secret sauce behind the company's success by sharing lessons hard-learned at the coalface of business, leadership and creativity over the last 30 years. Ethics and empowerment, trust and value, gut instincts and tough decisions - this is what it takes to build a business that is future-fit come rain, shine, pandemics or government corruption. An optimist to his core, Mike shows us that - no matter the problems we face as a country, as a species and as a planet - we have everything we need to make it right.

Book excerpt: At an English pub, a dart becomes a deadly weapon: “Any Ngaio Marsh story is certain to be Grade A.” —The New York Times A game of darts does involve some danger, but it’s rarely lethal. There are exceptions, however, like the famous barrister who was enjoying a pint at the Plume of Feathers pub, and is now residing at the morgue. But Inspector Roderick Alleyn has a growing hunch that this peculiar “accident” can be traced to an old legal case . . . “A peerless practitioner of the slightly surreal, English-village comedy-mystery.” —Kirkus Reviews

Download or read book Raising Abel written by Ronald Ragotzy MD and published by BalboaPress. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Raising Abel assumes that the Bible would not bother telling us about a cunning serpent, a murderous brother, or a resinous gopher tree, if they didnt have something to do with the deeper topic of faith. After all, isnt the Bible the authority on faith? Raising Abel explores the most familiar chapters of Genesis, not as a collection of stories of the beginning of time, but as our first and best guide to the subject of faith. The author, as a physician, explains faith within the framework of wellness, dividing the Genesis stories into four parts that answer four questions. The Premise: What does healthy faith look like? (Genesis 12) The Problem: What can cause this healthy state to become diseased? (Genesis 35) The Prescription: What medicine is needed to restore us to a healthy faith? (Genesis 69:17) The Practice: What must we do to maintain this healthy faith? (Genesis 9:1811) Raising Abel reassures us that there is something greater than a perfectly good world; it is an imperfect world plus faith. In a perfect world there would be no need of faith. Get ready to experience faith in a whole new light!

Download or read book German Film after Germany written by Randall Halle and published by University of Illinois Press. This book was released on 2010-10-01 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is the work of film in the age of transnational production? To answer that question, Randall Halle focuses on the film industry of Germany, one of Europe's largest film markets and one of the world's largest film-producing nations. In the 1990s Germany experienced an extreme transition from a state-subsidized mode of film production that was free of anxious concerns about profit and audience entertainment to a mode dominated by private interest and big capital. At the same time, the European Union began actively drawing together the national markets of Germany and other European nations, sublating their individual significances into a synergistic whole. This book studies these changes broadly, but also focuses on the transformations in their particular national context. It balances film politics and film aesthetics, tracing transformations in financing along with analyses of particular films to describe the effects on the film object itself. Halle concludes that we witness currently the emergence of a new transnational aesthetic, a fundamental shift in cultural production with ramifications for communal identifications, state cohesion, and national economies.
Download or read book Born A Crime written by Trevor Noah and published by Pan Macmillan South africa. This book was released on 2023-08-01 with total page 283 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ‘A terrific book ... His comedy is so universal that it has the power to transcend borders.’ – BILL GATES ‘... this is a moving, intimate story of growing up in South Africa from 1984. It stands as an archetypal rite-of-passage and coming-to-maturity tale, with unflinching and vivid accounts of home and school life in township and city, domestic violence, enterprising young men in Alex scrabbling to make the barest of livings ...’ – MAIL & GUARDIAN Trevor Noah’s path from apartheid South Africa to the desk of The Daily Show in New York and beyond began with a criminal act: his birth. Trevor was born to a white Swiss father and a black Xhosa mother at a time when such a union was punishable by five years in prison. Born a Crime is the story of a mischievous young boy who grows into a restless young man as he struggles to find himself in a world where he was never supposed to exist. It is also the story of his relationship with his fearless, rebellious and fervently religious mother – his teammate, a woman determined to save her son from the cycle of poverty, violence and abuse that would ultimately threaten her own life. The eighteen personal essays collected here are by turns hilarious, dramatic and deeply affecting. Whether being thrown from a moving car during an attempted kidnapping or simply trying to survive the life-and-death pitfalls of dating in high school, Trevor illuminates his world with an incisive wit and an unflinching honesty.
