Download or read book The Ascent Of Man written by Henry Drummond and published by Jazzybee Verlag. This book was released on 2014 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Though its stand-point is Evolution and its subject Man, this book is far from being designed to prove that Man has relations, compromising or otherwise, with lower animals. Its theme is Ascent, not Descent. It is a History, not an Argument. And Evolution, in the narrow sense in which it is often used when applied to Man, plays little part in the drama outlined here. So far as the general scheme of Evolution is introduced--and in the Introduction and elsewhere this is done at length --the object is the important one of pointing out how its nature has been misconceived, indeed how its greatest factor has been overlooked in almost all contemporary scientific thinking.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from William Henry Drummond In 1902 he went back for the first and only time to visit the motherland. After spending some time in England and Scotland, he crossed to Dublin, but went back to Glasgow and came home to Canada without revisiting his boyhood haunts in county Leitrim, the object that had led him to take the trip. His friend, the Scottish novelist, Neil Munro, explains that in Dublin something came to Drummond, an apprehension possibly of the fact that the actual Ireland was not the Ireland of his warm imagination, and apparently he preferred to leave the land of his boyhood a far-off thing of glamour in his memory. It is an illuminating and pathetic little incident. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: Shortly after the death of Scottish evangelist and scholar Henry Drummond, his family celebrated his life by publishing this collection of his sermons, prefaced with memorials by evangelist W. Robertson Nicoll and theologian Ian Maclaren. Drummond addresses such topics as the nature of Christ, human sin and guilt, and salvation, and he suggests ways in which Christians can lead lives that are pleasing to God. Although determining the will of God for one’s life can often seem difficult, Drummond stresses the importance of prayer in listening for God’s voice and discerning His leading. Especially admired by young people during his life, Drummond’s warm character shines through in these heartfelt messages.

Book excerpt: The founders of the modern recovery movement, including Bill Wilson, Bob Smith, and other early AAs, were deeply influenced by a handful of inspirational authors, from whom they received practical guidance, key insights, and concrete ideas. Their explorations of inspirational literature and useable spiritual methods gave rise to the program of spiritual self-help now practiced around the world as the twelve-step tradition. Now, some of the core books that both inspired and were produced by the early twelve-steppers and recovery pioneers – including the first edition of the 1939 landmark Alcoholic Anonymous – are collected in this powerful resource, The Recovery Bible. Here are early writings by the visionaries of recovery. Their work retains all of its impact and life-changing power – now at the ready for study, immediate guidance, and a lifetime of re-exploration in this one volume. The Recovery Bible includes: -Alcoholics Anonymous, the original 1939 landmark - The Greatest Thing in the World by Henry Drummond -In Tune with the Infinite by Ralph Waldo Trine -The Mental Equivalent by Emmet Fox - As a Man Thinketh by James Allen -The 23rd and 91st Psalms -Religion that Works by the Rev. Sam Shoemaker -The Varieties of Religious Experience by William James
