The three vessels were sailing under easy canvas nearly abeam of eacli other, the privateer in the centre. The space between them was about a quarter of a mile. Henry Longly watched with anxiety and some impatience for some sign of his captain's return from the brig; but with his glass he could not discover him or any other officer but the lieutenant of the deck. Full an hour had elapsed when he heard the boatswain's whistle shrilly thrilling to the side; and a few moments he saw, greatly to his relief, Wildash desceiid'into his gig and pull towards the privateer, the Frenchman still continuing underweigh. In a tew moments the boat was along side, and Wildash once more stood on his own deck. ' I feared yotthad got into some difficulty by your delay," said Harry.
