Book Higher Education as Ignorance

Download or read book Higher Education as Ignorance written by Julián Segura Camacho and published by University Press of America. This book was released on 2008 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Higher Education As Ignorance is a perspective not solely of education, but rather a cultural analysis based on the Mexican American. This book looks at the consequences of an Anglo Pedagogy and the clash it imposes on Mexicans who are from the U.S. and hence an American-born population, but are of a different race, culture, and mindset, and still living in Northern Mexico. This book compares and contrasts White and Mexican customs as a parallel story of how the home education of centuries based from a rancho culture is forcefully imposed by utilizing the cultural elements dear to a Mexican such as a mother, food, language, and history. All done in the name of education, but whose culture and edification is being progressed and digressed. The volume does not solely vilify Anglo hegemony, but also it examines the great divide that exists among Mexican Americans and Mexican immigrants that hunger for some form of advancement, are allowed to do so, and then critique America's Mexicans as if they are to blame alone for their misfortune. Also, a critique of gender and the amalgamation of Latinos is included because for Mexican Americans who are desert U.S. born people to be merged and blended with new immigrants from Central, South America, and the Caribbeans demonstrates the racism visible in society. To piece a U.S. born population albeit desert brown with newcomers from other countries simply because they "look" the same is another indication of ignorance and blatant racism (that somebody like Julian Camacho even though born in California is still somehow related to people he has never met reveals the truth). An unwanted population within the U.S.! Book jacket.

Book My Life on the Courts

Download or read book My Life on the Courts written by Henry H. Kennedy Jr. and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2019-04-25 with total page 171 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After attending Princeton and Harvard Law School, Henry Kennedy Jr. was appointed a United States magistrate when he was just twenty-eight. As the youngest federal judicial officer ever appointed, Kennedy handled many contentious proceedings for which he was ill prepared—all while enduring a short yet failed marriage. But it was not until he was preparing to lead a discussion at a judges’ prayer breakfast that Kennedy ultimately plunged into the darkness of depression. In a fascinating retelling of his life story, Kennedy chronicles his experiences as an African American federal judge who successfully confronted the debilitating symptoms of clinical depression while presiding over consequential cases and issues of our time. While traveling back into his past and revealing his family’s battles with racism and segregation, Kennedy leads others down an inspirational path that proves that positive change is not achieved in one day, but instead throughout a lifetime. Blessed with the guidance and example of his parents and supported by an unlikely cadre of friends, Judge Kennedy is living proof that there is hope for those suffering from depression that they too can overcome their challenges and reclaim their lives, just as he did. My Life on the Courts is the candid memoir of an African American federal judge that chronicles his journey through the courts and out of the depths of depression.

Book Mugamore

Download or read book Mugamore written by Jonathan T Jefferson, Dr and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2013-07 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book was developed to compare the real life educational experiences of an average child during the last generation in which the United States led the world in education to a real child's experiences today (when the United States is no longer in the top 20). The practice of labeling students with a disability has reached the status of a dangerous standard practice. Increasing demands for educational accountability will lead to more students being labeled and left behind. Written from a unique in-depth child's point-of-view, this book is designed to trigger a paradigm shift from automatically labeling children to patiently allowing them to grow into themselves. The author compares common disabilities chapter-by-chapter in sync with the child's intentions (or lack thereof). This sharing of the educational lives of two children, coupled with peer reviewed literature and research, provides powerful motivation for change.

Julia adopted a Chinese girl named Mulan and then, a few years later, married and moved from Los Angeles to Chicago. She writes about deciding to adopt her child, strollers, nannies, knitting, being adopted by a dog, The Food Network, and meeting Mr. Right through an email from a complete stranger. Some of the essays reveal Julia's ability to find that essential thread of human connection, whether it's with her mother-in-law or with an anonymous customer service rep during a late-night phone call. But no matter what the topic, Julia always writes with elegant precision, pinning her jokes with razor-sharp observations while articulating feelings that we all share.--From publisher description.
