Download or read book 16 Tom Swift and the Reconstructed Planet HB written by Victor Appleton II and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2016-05-06 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this hardbound edition of Tom's 16th adventure in this series, he finds out that a newly classified exo-planet outside Pluto's orbit is about to have a close encounter with the return of Haley's Comet. The problem is that at such distances nobody can tell just how close. A visit to the Planet, Eris, is called for but he must first devise a ay to travel faster than he ever has before so the trip can be accomplished before the pass by. What he comes up with astounds even his father, and that takes a lot! Tom, Bud and their crew arrive in time to witness a catastrophic collision that begins the slow and inevitable break up of the planet. But, trouble is brewing as calculations show some of the debris will eventually drift in and possibly collide with Mars and the Earth. What to do? Nobody has ever tried to put an entire planet back together. This is a Humpty Dumpty exercise of planetary proportions.

This book was released on 2011 with total page 393 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Humanitarian Charter and Minimum Standards will not of course stop humanitarian crises from happening, nor can they prevent human suffering. What they offer, however, is an opportunity for the enhancement of assistance with the aim of making a difference to the lives of people affected by disaster” Ton van Zutphen, Sphere Board Chair and John Damerell, Sphere Project Manager in the Foreword to the new edition of the Handbook. The Sphere Project is an initiative to determine and promote standards by which the global community responds to the plight of people affected by disasters. What’s new in the 2011 edition of the Sphere Handbook The new edition of the Sphere Project’s Handbook updates the qualitative and quantitative indicators and guidance notes and improves the overall structure and consistency of the text The new version has: * a rewritten Humanitarian Charter * updated common standards * a stronger focus on protection * revised technical chapters

Book Transnational Struggles for Recognition

Download or read book Transnational Struggles for Recognition written by Dieter Gosewinkel and published by Berghahn Books. This book was released on 2016-11-01 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Now more than ever, “recognition” represents a critical concept for social movements, both as a strategic tool and an important policy aim. While the subject’s theoretical and empirical dimensions have usually been studied separately, this interdisciplinary collection focuses on both to examine the pursuit of recognition against a transnational backdrop. With a special emphasis on the efforts of women’s and Jewish organizations in 20th-century Europe, the studies collected here show how recognition can be meaningfully understood in historical-analytical terms, while demonstrating the extent to which transnationalization determines a movement’s reach and effectiveness.

Book Principles of Inorganic Chemistry

Download or read book Principles of Inorganic Chemistry written by Brian W. Pfennig and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2022-02-02 with total page 836 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: PRINCIPLES OF INORGANIC CHEMISTRY Discover the foundational principles of inorganic chemistry with this intuitively organized new edition of a celebrated textbook In the newly revised Second Edition of Principles of Inorganic Chemistry, experienced researcher and chemist Dr. Brian W. Pfennig delivers an accessible and engaging exploration of inorganic chemistry perfect for sophomore-level students. This redesigned book retains all of the rigor of the first edition but reorganizes it to assist readers with learning and retention. In-depth boxed sections include original mathematical derivations for more advanced students, while topics like atomic and molecular term symbols, symmetry coordinates in vibrational spectroscopy, polyatomic MO theory, band theory, and Tanabe-Sugano diagrams are all covered. Readers will find many worked examples throughout the text, as well as numerous unanswered problems at varying levels of difficulty. Informative, colorful illustrations also help to highlight and explain the concepts discussed within. The new edition includes an increased emphasis on the comparison of the strengths and weaknesses of different chemical models, the interconnectedness of valence bond theory and molecular orbital theory, as well as a more thorough discussion of the atoms in molecules topological model. Readers will also find: A thorough introduction to and treatment of group theory, with an emphasis on its applications to chemical bonding and spectroscopy A comprehensive exploration of chemical bonding that compares and contrasts the traditional classification of ionic, covalent, and metallic bonding In-depth examinations of atomic and molecular orbitals and a nuanced discussion of the interrelationship between VBT, MOT, and band theory A section on the relationship between a molecule’s structure and bonding and its chemical reactivity With its in-depth boxed discussions, this textbook is also ideal for senior undergraduate and first-year graduate students in inorganic chemistry, Principles of Inorganic Chemistry is a must-have resource for anyone seeking a principles-based approach with theoretical depth. Furthermore, it will be useful for students of physical chemistry, materials science, and chemical physics.

Book Radiative Processes in Astrophysics

Download or read book Radiative Processes in Astrophysics written by George B. Rybicki and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-09-26 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Radiative Processes in Astrophysics: This clear, straightforward, and fundamental introduction is designed to present-from a physicist's point of view-radiation processes and their applications to astrophysical phenomena and space science. It covers such topics as radiative transfer theory, relativistic covariance and kinematics, bremsstrahlung radiation, synchrotron radiation, Compton scattering, some plasma effects, and radiative transitions in atoms. Discussion begins with first principles, physically motivating and deriving all results rather than merely presenting finished formulae. However, a reasonably good physics background (introductory quantum mechanics, intermediate electromagnetic theory, special relativity, and some statistical mechanics) is required. Much of this prerequisite material is provided by brief reviews, making the book a self-contained reference for workers in the field as well as the ideal text for senior or first-year graduate students of astronomy, astrophysics, and related physics courses. Radiative Processes in Astrophysics also contains about 75 problems, with solutions, illustrating applications of the material and methods for calculating results. This important and integral section emphasizes physical intuition by presenting important results that are used throughout the main text; it is here that most of the practical astrophysical applications become apparent.
