Download or read book Mathematics of the Discrete Fourier Transform DFT written by Julius O. Smith and published by Julius Smith. This book was released on 2008 with total page 323 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The DFT can be understood as a numerical approximation to the Fourier transform. However, the DFT has its own exact Fourier theory, and that is the focus of this book. The DFT is normally encountered as the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT)--a high-speed algorithm for computing the DFT. The FFT is used extensively in a wide range of digital signal processing applications, including spectrum analysis, high-speed convolution (linear filtering), filter banks, signal detection and estimation, system identification, audio compression (such as MPEG-II AAC), spectral modeling sound synthesis, and many others. In this book, certain topics in digital audio signal processing are introduced as example applications of the DFT"--Back cover

Download or read book Functional Neurobiology of Aging written by Patrick R. Hof and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2001-01-11 with total page 989 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some well-known age-related neurological diseases include Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, deafness, and blindness. Even more common are the problems of aging which are not due to disease but to more subtle impairments in neurobiological systems, including impairments in vision, memory loss, muscle weakening, and loss of reproductive functions, changes in body weight, and sleeplessness. As the average age of our society increases, diseases of aging continue to become more common, and conditions associated with aging need more attention by doctors and researchers. In 1991, patients over the age of 65 saw their doctors an average of eight times per year. Research funding is provided by the Neuroscience and Neuropsychology of Aging (NNA) Program, which is run by the National Institute on Aging. This book offers a comprehensive overview of all topics related to functional impairments which are related to the aging brain and nervous system. It is organized according to four general functions: movement, senses, memory, and neuroendocrine regulation. Written by the leading researchers in the field, this comprehensive work addresses both impairments associated with diseases and not associated with diseases, making it easier to understand the mechanisms involved. Functional Neurobiology of Aging is an important reference for professionals and students involved in aging research, as well as physicians who need to recognize and understand age-related impairments. - Organized by function, making it easy to find and understand the material - Addresses impairments both associated with diseases and not associated with diseases - Written by leading researchers in the field - Most comprehensive source of information on the neurobiology of aging
Download or read book Optical Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave FMCW Interferometry written by Jesse Zheng and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2005-01-04 with total page 259 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces the optical frequency-modulated continuous-wave (FMCW) interferometry - a new field of optics that is derived from radar. The study of optical FMCW interference not only updates our knowledge about the nature of light, but also creates an advanced technology for precision measurements. The principles, applications and signal processing of optical FMCW interference are systematically discussed. This book is intended for scientists and engineers in both academia and industry. It is especially suited to professionals who are working in the field of measurement instruments.
Download or read book Signals Sound and Sensation written by William M. Hartmann and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2004-09-14 with total page 680 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Designed to follow an introductory text on psychoacoustics, this book takes readers through the mathematics of signal processing from its beginnings in the Fourier transform to advanced topics in modulation, dispersion relations, minimum phase systems, sampled data, and nonlinear distortion. While organised like an introductory engineering text on signals, the examples and exercises come from research on the perception of sound. A unique feature of this book is its consistent application of the Fourier transform, which unifies topics as diverse as cochlear filtering and digital recording. More than 250 exercises are included, many of them devoted to practical research in perception, while others explore surprising auditory illusions generated by special signals. Periodic signals, aperiodic signals, and noise -- along with their linear and nonlinear transformations -- are covered in detail. More advanced mathematical topics are treated in the appendices. A working knowledge of elementary calculus is the only prerequisite. Indispensable for researchers and advanced students in the psychology of auditory perception.
Download or read book Wireless technologies and the national information infrastructure written by and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 1995 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the next five to 10 years, wireless technologies will dramatically reshape the communications and information infrastructure of the United States. New radio-based systems now being developed will use advanced digital technologies to bring a wide array of services to both residential and business users, including ubiquitous mobile telephone and data services and many new forms of video programming. Existing wireless systems, including radio and television broadcasting, cellular telephony, and various satellite and data networks, will also convert to digital technology. This will allow them to improve the quality of their services, expand the number of users they can serve, and offer new information and entertainment applications. Before the benefits of these wireless systems can be realized, however, technical, regulatory, and economic uncertainties must be resolved. This report examines the role wireless communication technologies will play in the evolving National Information Infrastructure (NII), examines the challenges facing policy-makers and regulators as wireless becomes a more integral part of the telecommunications and information infrastructure, and identifies some of the longer term implications of the widespread use of wireless systems and services.

Download or read book Federal Long Range Spectrum Plan written by Mathew B. Lane and published by Nova Publishers. This book was released on 2002 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The United States is vitally dependent upon the use of the radio spectrum to carry out national policies and achieve national goals. Use of the spectrum is vital to the security and welfare of the Nation and to the conduct of its foreign affairs. This use exerts a powerful influence upon our everyday lives, in countless ways, annually contributing significantly to the Nation's growth and economy. The radio spectrum is a limited natural resource which is accessible to all nations. It is imperative that we develop and administer our use of this resource wisely so as to maintain a free democratic society and to stimulate the healthy growth of the Nation, while ensuring its availability to serve future requirements in the best interest of the Nation. Therefore, consistent with our international treaty obligations and with due regard for the rights of other nations, the national objectives for the use of the radio spectrum are to make effective, efficient, and prudent use of the spectrum in the best interest of the Nation, with care to conserve it for uses where other means of communication are not available or feasible. This revised NIA report details the policies and plans geared towards government oversight of the national radio spectrum, an asset we cannot afford to overlook.
