Book excerpt: After intercepting a convoy containing crucial intelligence and decrypting the data, the Kionic Pirates now know their time of plundering the seas may come to an end. An alliance has been formed between the various factions they prey on. With little time to spare the Kionic Pirates begin their own defensive preparations which include sending out various special forces teams to perform recon and sabotage missions. An area of the world that has not seen major conflict is about to erupt. Run by powerful politicians, kings, warriors, spherists, assassins and underground networks, chances for personal gain are rife. Spherists, people who are able to draw upon and control the energy of ethereal realms, are utilized in everything from encrypting information, communicating long distance, spying and contract killing. Everything is about to go down and the Kionics are right in the middle of it. One Kionic spec ops team, lead by Exphasia, a spherist, is sent to the city where she grew up. Followed by her brother Merritt and her hard-headed friend, Rezen, they soon learn that there is far more going on than initially perceived. Aided by an assassin, who partly shares in the Kionic's own goals, they must recover as much intel as possible and destroy what they can before the Alliance fleet leaves dock. And there's something else... Communication and other spherical activities are being scrambled and hampered by an unknown storm brewing over the mountains to the east. Something is wrong. And Rezen's nightmares are getting worse...

Book Mass Atrocity Ordinary Evil and Hannah Arendt

Download or read book Mass Atrocity Ordinary Evil and Hannah Arendt written by Mark Osiel and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 2001-01-01 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is it possible that the soldiers of mass atrocities--Adolph Eichmann in Nazi Germany and Alfredo Astiz in Argentina's Dirty War, for example--act under conditions that prevent them from recognizing their crimes? In the aftermath of catastrophic, state-sponsored mass murder, how are criminal courts to respond to those who either gave or carried out the military orders that seem unequivocally criminal? This important book addresses Hannah Arendt's controversial argument that perpetrators of mass crimes are completely unaware of their wrongdoing, and therefore existing criminal laws do not adequately address these defendants. Mark Osiel applies Arendt's ideas about the kind of people who implement bureaucratized large-scale atrocities to Argentina's Dirty War of the 1970s, and he also delves into the social conditions that could elicit such reprehensible conduct. He focuses on Argentine navy captain Astiz, who led one of the most notorious abduction squads, to discover how he and other junior officers could justify the murders of more than ten thousand suspected "subversives." Osiel concludes that legal stipulations labeling certain deeds as manifestly illegal are indefensible. He calls for a significant change in the laws of war to preserve both justice and the possibility of dialogue between factions in such sharply divided societies as Argentina. Osiel's proposals have profound implications for future prosecutions of Pinochet's lieutenants, Milosevic's henchmen, the willing executioners of Rwanda and East Timor, and other perpetrators of state-endorsed murder and torture.

Book The Forbidden Knowledge of Good and Evil

Download or read book The Forbidden Knowledge of Good and Evil written by Daniel F. Owsley and published by Booktango. This book was released on 2012-02-23 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 1 It's with great pride that some very great literature about creation has finally been gathered together for God's faithful few. So be prepared to go on a journey back in time. 2 But the very first thing that any inspired work about creation has to do is to present some undeniable facts so that evolution can be discredited to it's very core. Therefore the voices of many modern experts shall now ring out in unity to teach the facts of reality. For it's now well beyond crystal clear that many fantasies have haunted billions of people about the way that life somehow came into existence upon our blue and green world. 3 'Tis also as clear as cloudless skies that the past ideas of those multitudes hasn't only been ridiculous, but they have also imagined some totally impossible scenarios as well. 4 'Tis therefore a sure thing that people can object to other people's opinions; But there's nobody with even half of a brain that can dare to disagree with the kind of indisputable fossil evidence that humanity has already uncovered; For those rocks silently yell out the fact that Man's understandings of “prehistoric” time-lines have always been very false. 5 And to accomplish the kind of teaching that rocks teach the best, our Lord has allowed several of those discoveries to stress that our science is wrong. He even uses the voice of Charles Darwin to prove once and for all that evolution is an absurdity at it's highest height. 6 So this shall be the time to explore some artifacts, to look at some fossils, to crawl through some real deep mines, to look at some graveyards, and to look through some microscopes. And it's also the time to set the world's clock ahead; For most people have always been pretty backwards in their thinking when it comes to the book of Genesis. 7 But for people who want to be enlightened they have to listen to the apocryphal voices of Enoch, Methuselah, Israelius, and the two sons of Moses – Gershom and Eliezer, 8 'Tis also the hour to peek into caves, to examine some art work, to listen to the ancients, as well as the moment to put all of those things into a single package, so God's supernatural creation of everything we know shall be extremely clear; For it's a given that things scientifically could never have happened any other way, once all of the facts are in. 9 So sit back and relax as this true tale about the miraculous aspect of our world's creation is looked at; For this is the time to look at geology, giants of old, and the great thunder lizards that caused the grounds to tremble as they gently walked under the moonlight. 10 Then the focus of this Forbidden Knowledge of Creation shall shift as truths about God are briefly held up very high for all to see. 'Tis therefore the long awaited hour for some new revelation through the voices of many of God's servants from history past and present. 11 And once all of the above has been accomplished, earth's true history shall then be laid out in chronological order so nothing will seem to be complicated. But the complexities of everything involving creation will certainly spin some people's heads around, if they refuse to accept the very simple fact that everything about earth has been supernatural from it's very sudden creation when God long ago first said “let it be!

Book The Great Swim

Download or read book The Great Swim written by Gavin Mortimer and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2009-05-26 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The dramatic story of the four courageous female swimmers who captivated the world in the summer of 1926. Despite the tensions of a world still recovering from World War I, during the summer of 1926, the story that enthralled the public revolved around four young American swimmers-Gertrude Ederle, Mille Gade, Lillian Cannon, and Clarabelle Barrett-who battled the weather, each other, and considerable odds to become the first woman to conquer the brutal waters of the English Channel. The popular East Coast tabloids from New York to Boston engaged in rivalries nearly as competitive as the swimmers themselves; each backed a favorite and made certain their girl-in bathing attire-was plastered across their daily editions. Just as Seabiscuit, the little horse with the big heart, would bring the nation to a near standstill when he battled his rival War Admiral in 1938, this quartet of women held the attention of millions of people on both sides of the Atlantic for an entire summer. Gavin Mortimer uses primary sources, diaries, interviews with relatives, and contemporary reports to paint an unforgettable portrait of a competition that changed the way the world looked at women, both in sport and society. More than an underdog story, The Great Swim is a tale of perseverance, strength, and sheer force of will. A portrait of an era that is as evocative as Cinderella Man, this is a memorable story of America and Americans in the 1920s.

Book The Leadership Series

Download or read book The Leadership Series written by Rayola Kelley and published by . This book was released on 2013-05 with total page 327 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The three books that make up the Leadership Series were written after my friend and co-laborer in the Gospel, Jeannette Haley, pointed out that there seemed to be much confusion surrounding godly leadership in the kingdom of God. The main reason for this confusion is that many Christians consider leadership according to the world's standards. Jesus even warned His followers in Matthew 20:24-27 that there is a vast difference between what the world considers to be greatness in leadership, and how the kingdom of God regards leadership that is marked with the excellence of greatness. As this book illustrates, true leaders in God's kingdom are not born; rather, they are forged. In order to effectively bring forth a leader, such individuals must learn to recognize that which hinders them and overcome these enemies. Obviously, a leader cannot lead others where he or she has not yet walked. The first book, Overcoming, addresses the true enemies of the cross of Christ, and reveals that they do not always come from without. Many such hindrances prove to be nothing more than moral deviations that are present in our character. Therefore, the first book identifies the true enemies of the Christian life and brings insight into what it takes to overcome each enemy. Great leaders also understand how authority and power are to influence and work in their lives. The second book, A Matter of Authority and Power reveals that real leaders recognize true authority and understand how power is to be used to carry out their responsibilities. This book will undo any misconceptions about these two subjects and will produce the sobriety that must be present when it comes to possessing the quality of true leadership in the kingdom of God. The final book, The Dynamics of True Leadership, follows the lives of the great leaders of the Bible. This book reveals the type of soul each leader possessed. It explains the choices these leaders made and how it impacted the kingdom of God.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One man details his unusual friendship with the Genesee River Killer and examines what separates everyday people from serial killers. What happens when one of the evilest men in the history of America meets a man he trusts to share his darkest secrets with? How does it affect someone already on the edge of society when he is taken under the wing of a serial killer? Partly told through the letters of Arthur Shawcross, The Shawcross Letters is the tale of one of America’s most notorious serial killers and his relationship with his would-be biographer, John Paul Fay. John Paul Fay was a murderabilia dealer with a troubled past. Arthur Shawcross, also known as the Genesee River Killer, was in prison after being convicted of murdering numerous women, he officially has killed 14 people in all. The two created a business relationship, with Fay shopping the drawings of Shawcross and working with him on a book of his life. They also created a bizarre friendship in which Shawcross would let out his darkest secrets and Fay would finally meet someone that he himself felt oddly at home with. But as we all know, be careful what you wish for, you just might get it. The Shawcross Letters is a unique book, it is not only literary, but it lets the reader into the mind of a serial killer in a way that few books have ever done before. The reader will be drawn into the mind of Shawcross through his letters, and will find themselves wondering, what actually separates a serial killer from someone that walks among us every day? *Warning: Contains extremely graphic material including descriptions of rape, murder and cannibalism.* Praise for The Shawcross Letters “The Shawcross Letters is a graphic and dramatic page turner that delves into the twisted mind of a serial killer. A true crime book that will horrify, enlighten, and keep you up at night.” —Joseph Souza, author of The Perfect Daughter “As frighteningly real as it gets. Not for the faint of heart.” —Patrick Quinlan, Los Angeles Times–bestselling author of Smoked and The Hit “A unique and fascinating look at the Genesee River Killer, both despite and partially because the Killer himself is only secondary. Instead, it examines what the line between the average person and a psychopath entails and the psychology of the fascination with serial killers.” —Ben Arzate, Cultured Vultures
