Unlike previous surveys of Latter-day Saint beliefs, Explaining Mormonism not only outlines Mormon doctrines but provides an in-depth exploration of some of their most distinctive doctrines regarding the nature of God, the purpose of life, the value of suffering, and even human sexuality. The author himself is a self-described "skeptic both by nature and by nurture," who nevertheless converted to Mormonism as a young man. He takes the reader on an exciting journey through one of the world's most controversial and perplexing religions. For Latter-day Saint readers, Explaining Mormonism will aid in strengthening their faith through its in-depth examination of the compelling logic behind the Mormon world view. For the skeptical outsider, it situates Mormon beliefs in a broad context of history, theology, philosophy, and social science and demonstrates Mormonism's ability to provide bold and compelling answers to the most fundamental questions of human existence. And for the serious student of Mormonism, it furnishes insights that only an insider can bring to some of the Latter-day Saints' most peculiar teachings.

Book How to Keep House While Drowning

Download or read book How to Keep House While Drowning written by KC Davis and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2022-04-26 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An NPR Best Book of 2022 USA TODAY Bestseller This revolutionary approach to cleaning and organizing helps free you from feeling ashamed or overwhelmed by a messy home. If you’re struggling to stay on top of your to-do list, you probably have a good reason: anxiety, fatigue, depression, ADHD, or lack of support. For therapist KC Davis, the birth of her second child triggered a stress-mess cycle. The more behind she felt, the less motivated she was to start. She didn’t fold a single piece of laundry for seven months. One life-changing realization restored her sanity—and the functionality of her home: You don’t work for your home; your home works for you. In other words, messiness is not a moral failing. A new sense of calm washed over her as she let go of the shame-based messaging that interpreted a pile of dirty laundry as “I can never keep up” and a chaotic kitchen as “I’m a bad mother.” Instead, she looked at unwashed clothes and thought, “I am alive,” and at stacks of dishes and thought, “I cooked my family dinner three nights in a row.” Building on this foundation of self-compassion, KC devised the powerful practical approach that has exploded in popularity through her TikTok account, @domesticblisters. The secret is to simplify your to-do list and to find creative workarounds that accommodate your limited time and energy. In this book, you’ll learn exactly how to customize your cleaning strategy and rebuild your relationship with your home, including: -How to see chores as kindnesses to your future self, not as a reflection of your worth -How to start by setting priorities -How to stagger tasks so you won’t procrastinate -How to clean in quick bursts within your existing daily routine -How to use creative shortcuts to transform a room from messy to functional With KC’s help, your home will feel like a sanctuary again. It will become a place to rest, even when things aren’t finished. You will move with ease, and peace and calm will edge out guilt, self-criticism, and endless checklists. They have no place here.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our nation was founded upon Christian principles and for generations followed the mandates of that established course. Little by little those truths have been forsaken. A "Spirit-empowered, Holy Ghost-anointed, sin-killing, Devil-chasing revival," as Dr. Shelton Smith puts it so accurately, is what the country now needs. These challenging messages remind us vividly that though the world gets darker and darker, the power of God and its availability to us have always been the same. Here, from the heart of a burdened pastor, editor and soul winner, Christians are encouraged to get right with God, catch the Spirit of Christ, serve God diligently, stay on the firing line and wage war against evil. We are salt and light in this wicked world; if we faint not but stay at the urgent task with commitment, determination and long-suffering, God can and will indeed do it again! - Publisher.

Book Hast Thou Considered My Servant Job

Download or read book Hast Thou Considered My Servant Job written by Samuel Greene and published by Glory Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2012-12 with total page 381 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a miracle from God! It would have never been written without God's healing virtue and power that helped my physical body. This book was birthed during of the darkest and most trying times I have ever had in my life due to the near death experience I had encountered. This book uncovers the principle of suffering and glory. I wrote this book especially for all my brothers and sisters in the Body of Christ who at times in their walk with the Lord Jesus have gone through great suffering and trial. For many who don't have the revelation of suffering, in this book, I try to explain that they don't need to feel guilt or condemnation for what they're going through. Sometimes God Himself allows us to go through times of great upheaval and personal suffering and tragedy for a greater purpose than we could ever imagine. That is why this book has been written - to help, comfort, and reveal the truth to so many saints who don't understand what or why they are going through their situation. My prayer is that through my tortured life and experiences, along with an exhaustive look at the Scriptures regarding suffering and glory, that you will awaken to a new found understanding of our glorious, precious God and His holy, revelatory Word. And that you'll find the answer to your situation. May God give you grace to receive this truth.

Book Do As I Say Not As I Do

Download or read book Do As I Say Not As I Do written by Peter Schweizer and published by Anchor. This book was released on 2005-10-25 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “I don’t own a single share of stock.” —Michael Moore Members of the liberal left exude an air of moral certitude. They pride themselves on being selflessly committed to the highest ideals and seem particularly confident of the purity of their motives and the evil nature of their opponents. To correct economic and social injustice, liberals support a whole litany of policies and principles: progressive taxes, affirmative action, greater regulation of corporations, raising the inheritance tax, strict environmental regulations, children’s rights, consumer rights, and much, much more. But do they actually live by these beliefs? Peter Schweizer decided to investigate in depth the private lives of some prominent liberals: politicians like the Clintons, Nancy Pelosi, the Kennedys, and Ralph Nader; commentators like Michael Moore, Al Franken, Noam Chomsky, and Cornel West; entertainers and philanthropists like Barbra Streisand and George Soros. Using everything from real estate transactions, IRS records, court depositions, and their own public statements, he sought to examine whether they really live by the principles they so confidently advocate. What he found was a long list of glaring contradictions. Michael Moore denounces oil and defense contractors as war profiteers. He also claims to have no stock portfolio, yet he owns shares in Halliburton, Boeing, and Honeywell and does his postproduction film work in Canada to avoid paying union wages in the United States. Noam Chomsky opposes the very concept of private property and calls the Pentagon “the worst institution in human history,” yet he and his wife have made millions of dollars in contract work for the Department of Defense and own two luxurious homes. Barbra Streisand prides herself as an environmental activist, yet she owns shares in a notorious strip-mining company. Hillary Clinton supports the right of thirteen-year-old girls to have abortions without parental consent, yet she forbade thirteen-year-old Chelsea to pierce her ears and enrolled her in a school that would not distribute condoms to minors. Nancy Pelosi received the 2002 Cesar Chavez Award from the United Farm Workers, yet she and her husband own a Napa Valley vineyard that uses nonunion labor. Schweizer’s conclusion is simple: liberalism in the end forces its adherents to become hypocrites. They adopt one pose in public, but when it comes to what matters most in their own lives—their property, their privacy, and their children—they jettison their liberal principles and embrace conservative ones. Schweizer thus exposes the contradiction at the core of liberalism: if these ideas don’t work for the very individuals who promote them, how can they work for the rest of us?
