HARVARD UNIVERSITY LIBRARY V _ Copyrighted by Charles A. Lindbergh 1917 NATIONAL CAPITAL PRESS, INC., WASHINGTON, D To Readers: Materially connected with the conditions as they exist now, is my book bearing the title, "Banking and Currency and The Money Trust," published 1913, in which is the following prefatory statement: The market prices of commodities vary from day to day and often'several times a day. This occurs when there is no radical difference in the pro-portion of supply and the natural demands. This fact is conclusive proof that our system is controlled by manipulators and is fundamentally wrong. I have sought to elucidate this problem within this volume and have suggested a plan which, if adopted, would make the people themselves master of the world, instead of the present master--The Money Trust. What I predicted in the book above referred to is now taking place. The "press" controlled by "big business" at the time of the publication of that book, attacked me savagely for predicting dire results from the "big business" system. We now have what I then said we would have. I make no claim to magic knowledge. On the contrary, any attempt to say what the future will bring, I maintain would be a folly unless it is based upon facts that inevitably lead to certain things. There are facts that do that, and it is upon such facts that I published that book, and now again publish this new book, widening the scope of consideration by taking additional subjects. The former book is cloth bound, has 318 pages, and will be sent to an address postage prepaid for $1.00. Its contents are as important now as when written, and immensely more interesting because of the subsequent developments. Charles A. Lindbergh, P. O. Address, either

Book After War Problems Classic Reprint

Download or read book After War Problems Classic Reprint written by Earl Of Cromer and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-07-08 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from After-War Problems So, again, we are told of what Germany is to be com pelled to do, of the capitulations and penalties which are to be required Of her as the price of peace. Here like wise prophecy, ih so far as it is well informed, is perfectly legitimate and may be helpful. Yet there are thousands Of Englishmen, and they not the least patriotic, who are quite as eager to know what England herself is prepared to do in order to help in and sustain the coming reign of peace and goodwill which all men long for and too many_ Of us think will come automatically, and of the example which she is going to Offer to the world Of order and harmony in her own household. Already the nation's contribution to the awful holocaust Of life and treasure demanded by the war has been appalling, and still the full toll has not been paid. What is to be the gain in return - the gain, not to Europe and to Civilization at large, which to most people are mere abstractions, but to ourselves? If the gain is to be equal to the sacrifice, it must surely be in the things wherein we as a people have hitherto been most lacking. Download or read book Why We Went to War Classic Reprint written by Christian Gauss and published by . This book was released on 2015-06-28 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Why We Went to War I Cannot pretend that the following account is dispassionate, and I realize that in preparing it I have done what Burke said he did not know how to do. I have drawn up an indictment against a whole people for their complicity in the crimes of the rulers whom they have accepted. As an American of South German blood, I confess readily to an inherited dislike and distrust of the Prussian. I have tried, nevertheless, to represent him in his habit as he lives, and to draw out fully the implications in his attitude and philosophy. My ancestors and the Prussian were poor neighbors, and the traditional bitterness of that quarrel may have obtruded itself. In the interest of making my contentions clear to others not so unhappily familiar with him, I may unconsciously have overstated. Book What Shall We Say

Download or read book What Shall We Say written by David Starr Jordan and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-08-24 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from What Shall We Say?: Being Comments on Current Matters of War and Waste What shall we say, as lovers of peace, in face of the Balkan war? Is it true that while Serbs are Serbs and Greeks are Greeks, and Turks are Turks, there is no way out save war? Is it not true that while Turks rule aliens for the money to be extorted, there can be no peace between them and their subjects or their neighbors? It is not necessary for us to answer these questions. They belong to history rather than to morals. The progress of events will take our answer from our lips. The problem comes to us too late for any act of ours to be effective. The stage was set, the actors chosen, thirty-four years ago, at Berlin in 1878. Our part is to strive for peace - first, to do away with causes for war; second, to lead people to look for war as the last and not the first remedy for national wrongs or national disagreements. Most wars have their origin in the evil passions of men, and no war could take place if both sides were sincerely desirous of honor able peace. No doubt, the Balkan situation could have been controlled for peace by the concert of powers in Europe, were it not that no such concert exists. The instruments are out of tune and time. So long as foreign offices are alike controlled by the interests of great exploiting and competing corporations, they can never stand for good morals and good order. If they could, the Turkish rule of violence would have ceased long ago. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Why Wars Come: Or Forms of Government and Foreign Policies in Relation to the Causes of Wars All right-thinking people abhor war, for it is hateful, demoralizing and destructive. There is almost nothing good to be said in its favor, and yet we all know that universal peace is not in sight and that fresh wars are in the making. It is well, therefore, to ask why wars come? Is there no definite way to avoid them? Who and what in a general way is responsible for the madness and folly of war?
