Book Why Is There No Lasting Revival

Download or read book Why Is There No Lasting Revival written by Bill Vincent and published by RWG Publishing. This book was released on 2023-02-05 with total page 35 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: God said to me, Why is there no lasting revival? Most revivals don't last long. They start up. Sometimes it takes a while to start them up. But sometimes they start up and then they fizzle out. Five years is a very long revival. I've been in a revival where it's been two years, I've been in a revival that was only six months. And you got to understand whatever the timetable is, there are different levels of revival. But why isn't there any long-lasting revival, and I got some things that I'm going to get into here, but I'm going to be jumping around. But I really believe that we have gotten to be in a delusion in the church. People don't even know what they're asking for when they ask for revival, they want revival to come. They want God to move in the church. But then when God begins to shift and begin to try to do it, they're like, oh, I don't want that. Let me tell you something, you cannot say what the revival is going to be. You can't choose the revival. You can't even choose the people that are going to come to it. Come on, we would like to choose. And it's you say all that, what's wrong with that? There's something wrong with that. But you got to understand, I couldn't have a choice, God's that kind of God, sometimes he'll bring some of those people. And they'll come and they'll plop it down in the seat. And they'll have the stirring like they never left. And I'm telling you, there's a lot of things that are happening, but we have been delusional for so long. And there are some things that are about to happen because we want the stirring of revival, but we don't want the change. Let me tell you, some revival is going to come and it's going to change everything. It's gonna change the way you even look at church.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Growing up the son of agnostics, John Koessler saw a Catholic church on one end of the street and a Baptist on the other. In the no-man’s land between the two, this curious outside wondered about the God they worshipped—and began a lifelong search to comprehend the grace and mystery of God. A Stranger in the House of God addresses fundamental questions and struggles faced by spiritual seekers and mature believers. Like a contemporary Pilgrim’s Progress, it traces the author’s journey and explores his experiences with both charismatic and evangelical Christianity. It also describes his transformation from religious outsider to ordained pastor. John Koessler provides a poignant and often humorous window into the interior of the soul as he describes his journey from doubt and struggle with the church to personal faith

Book Revival and Revivalism

Download or read book Revival and Revivalism written by Iain Hamish Murray and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 490 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Murray analyses a crucial period in American religious history, with particular attention to the major theme of the nature ofreligious revival. He rejects the common identification of revival & revivalism, showing that the latter differed from the former both in its origins & in its implications. Whereas in the earlier period, revival was understood as supernatural & heaven-sent, in the later period the ethos was much more man-centred & the methods employed much closer to the manipulative. The change in perspective can be summed up by saying that revival was first viewed as OEsent down, but later seen as OEworked up. A pivotal figure in the change & a major promoter of the new methods, was Charles Grandison Finney (1792-1875). Murray traces developments from the time of Samuel Davies (1763-61), through the age of the Second Great Awakening, to the New York Awakening of 1857-8. In addition to Davies & Finney, major leaders whose names recur in these pages include Archibald Alexander (1772-1851) of Princeton Theological Seminary, Edward D. Griffin (1770-1837) & Asahel Nettleton (1783-1844).Arnold DallimoreAn outstanding biography, scholarly, yet popularly written, of theleading preacher of the eighteenth-century evangelical revival.Whitefield (1714-70) is acknowledged to have made a greaterimpact on evangelical Christianity on both sides of the Atlanticthan any other preacher of the eighteenth century. The firstvolume traces the early career of Whitefield to the end of 1740, atwhich point the twenty-six-year-old was already the most brilliantand popular preacher of the time, and had already, at age 24,commanded the largest congregations yet seen in America. Thesecond volume traces the doctrinal conflict with John and CharlesWesley, Whitefield?s visits to Scotland and Wales, as well as theAmerican colonies, and the emergence of a Calvinistic branch ofMethodism. Also provided are details of Whitefield?s marriage, friendships, ceaseless labours and early death aged 55. The two-volume set casts new light on Whitefield?s early life in Gloucester, religious conditions in England at the commencement of hispreaching ministry, his influence on the Great Awakening of 1739-40 in America, his relationships with the Wesleys, hisphilanthropic endeavours and his impact on all classes of Englishsociety including the aristocracy.

Book Revival Why is there no Socialism in the United States 1976

Download or read book Revival Why is there no Socialism in the United States 1976 written by W Sombart and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-07-28 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why is the United States the only advanced capitalist country with no labor party? This question is one of the great enduring puzzles of American political development, and it lies at the heart of a fundamental debate about the nature of American society. Tackling this debate head-on, Robin Archer puts forward a new explanation for why there is no American labor party-an explanation that suggests that much of the conventional wisdom about "American exceptionalism" is untenable. Conventional explanations rely on comparison with Europe. Archer challenges these explanations by comparing the United States with its most similar New World counterpart-Australia. This comparison is particularly revealing, not only because the United States and Australia share many fundamental historical, political, and social characteristics, but also because Australian unions established a labor party in the late nineteenth century, just when American unions, against a common backdrop of industrial defeat and depression, came closest to doing something similar. Archer examines each of the factors that could help explain the American outcome, and his systematic comparison yields unexpected conclusions. He argues that prosperity, democracy, liberalism, and racial hostility often promoted the very changes they are said to have obstructed. And he shows that it was not these characteristics that left the United States without a labor party, but, rather, the powerful impact of repression, religion, and political sectarianism.

Book excerpt: God has always been interested in turning unlikely people into his most fervent followers. Prostitutes and pagans, tax collectors and tricksters. The more unlikely, the more it seemed to please God and to demonstrate his power, might, and mercy. America in the 1960s and 1970s was full of unlikely people--men and women who had rejected the stuffy religion of their parents' generation, who didn't follow the rules, didn't fit in. The perfect setting for the greatest spiritual awakening of the 20th century. With passion and purpose, Greg Laurie and Ellen Vaughn tell the amazing true story of the Jesus Movement, an extraordinary time of mass revival, renewal, and reconciliation. Setting fascinating personal stories within the context of one of the most tumultuous times in modern history, the authors draw important parallels with our own time of spiritual apathy or outright hostility, offering hope for the next generation of unlikely believers--and for the next great American revival. Those who lived through the Jesus Revolution will find here an inspiring reminder of the times and people that shaped their lives and faith. Younger readers will discover a forgotten part of recent American history and, along with it, a reason to believe that God is not finished with their generation.
