Book Mekong The Occluding River

Download or read book Mekong The Occluding River written by Ngo The Vinh and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2010-07-14 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Part travelogue, part history, and part environmental treatise, Mekong The Occluding River is above all else an urgent warning that factors such as pollution, ecological devastation, and the depletion of natural resources are threatening the very existence of the Mekong River. Author Ngo The Vinh combines his vivid travel notes and collection of photographs with a meticulously researched history of the environmental degradation of the Mekong River. Translated from Vietnamese, the best-selling treatise outlines the myriad threats facing the river today. From oil shipments feeding the industrial cities of southwestern China to gigantic hydroelectric dams known as the Mekong Cascades in Yunnan province, China is the worst environmental offender, though the other nations along Mekongs banks behave no better. From Thailand to Laos to Vietnam, hydroelectric dams that threaten the Mekong and its inhabitants are being built at an alarming rate. To save the Mekong, Ngo The Vinh calls upon all the nations that benefit from its life-giving water to observe the Spirit of the Mekong in the implementation of all future development projects. To achieve this end, there must be a concerted and sustained commitment to cooperation and sustainability. At this critical cross-roads, we should remind ourselves of the mantra from Sea World San Diego: Extinction is forever. Endangered means we still have time.

Book Navigating Challenges in Qualitative Educational Research

Download or read book Navigating Challenges in Qualitative Educational Research written by Todd Ruecker and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-06-11 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How do education researchers navigate the qualitative research process? How do they manage and negotiate myriad decision points at which things can take an unexpected – and sometimes problematic – turn? Whilst these questions are relevant for any research process, the specific issues qualitative researchers face can have impactful repercussions, that if managed adeptly, can lead to successful and even new research opportunities. Navigating Challenges in Qualitative Educational Research includes narratives that provide real world experiences and accounts of how researchers navigated problematic situations, as well as their considerations in doing so. These contributions give students and researchers a chance to understand the possibilities of research challenges and better prepare for these eventualities and how to deal with them. Providing educative windows into the challenges and missteps even seasoned researchers face along the way, this book is an invaluable resource for graduate students and early career qualitative researchers, particularly those who are interested in education.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the area of ballpark hopping, there have been a number of accounts written, recorded or talked about in recent times, sometimes for a cause or others just as a gimmick. Through Poet in the Grandstand, poet and writer Thomas Porky McDonald gives us a most unique twist on a preoccupation which has grown in the past few decades, in the wake of the closings of classic old yards and the birth of the more entertainment and nostalgia driven open-air parks. From his first trip in 1990, to the fabled Comiskey Park of Shoeless Joe Jackson, Bill Veeck and the Go-Go Sox, on through to the 2010 opening of Minnesotas fabulous Target Field, featuring the modern M&M Boys, Joe Mauer and Justin Mourneau, McDonald offers up a book that is part travelogue and part poetic tribute to all the places that men and women have gone to over the years for a very personal sense of joy. This journey, done methodically, over two decades, picks up steam as the chapters begin to flow. The effect of McDonald himself clearly growing as a poet through the years is accentuated by the fact that more and more pieces are written in the later trips. The end result is a most interesting volume of not just ballparks, but Americana, as numerous attractions taken in during those ballpark weeks and weekends are also noted and/or dissected. For fourteen seasons on his own and then six more accompanied by friend and confidant Adam Boneker, McDonalds travels, highlighted by over 300 poems, can take the reader back to a simpler time or into the possibilities of the future. In chapter and in verse, Poet in the Grandstand has something for both the baseball enthusiast and the curious traveler. Fans of the game and lovers of the road will each find much to offer within these pages.

Book Hold On Someone is on the Other Line

Download or read book Hold On Someone is on the Other Line written by Darmonica Alexander and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2011-03-30 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is about all of my dreams that I had that never came true. This book will also give the inside track of what I learned about me in my life as I travel through the journey of life. People have always talked about the truth about their life, but what about the whole truth, the good, the bad and the ugly? I am just a normal and regular person who is not perfect in no form shape or fashion. This book is just an insight of my life with all of the encounters coming from a very large family. By coming from a large family today caused many problems for me because I did not realize exactly how poor I was until I began to attend college. Not saying that most of our family didn’t pull themselves out of their situations. Happiness came from the inside of your to come true. This book will show that I thought that it was the choices that I made, but in the end I found out that it wasn’t only the choice, but it was other individual choices, but it was the decision of my parents that turned my life upside down and on its head. From my experience, as a child growing up here in America in the 60’s and 70’s life was to have dreams in our small little heads about becoming a fireman, sports photographer, doctor, or even a player playing sports. As a child having dreams are the responsibility of the parents to every effort to make their child dreams come true and this will make them successful and most of all very happy with their accomplishments. See I love the game of football and other sports as well, such as baseball, basketball and track and field, but football was my favorite. The reason that I loved football was my most favorite. The reason it was my favorite because on the football field this was where the smaller player could get even with the bigger bullies who wanted to talk trash to some of the small players. While I played the game of football in the little Pop Warner Football League, I silence the bigger boys without talking trash. As this book unfolds you will find out that other people in my life and bad timing played a role in my unsuccessful dreams. Then you will find out that my life was not only my decision alone. But on the side of all of this I had a good life and I maintained to stay happiness. Now if I had not exposed my life to you, many people would never know the pain and hardship that I experienced in my life time. I am still the same Darmonica who you have know in the past who love sports and love lending a helping hand where it’s needed. For the love of life is to love yourself, help another and take the worst of life and make the best of it, and I did just that. Without my family and friends I would not be the person who I am NOW! That’s why I say, Hold on, someone is on the other line!

It is about the story of a girl who was brought up by her foster mother. She did not know that her foster mother was not her natural mother until the mother had passed away, because she had always loved and cared for her wholeheartedly, tenderly, and sincerely. From a girl who did not have much faith in God, the daughter had changed unbelievably to have strong faith in the Creator and to be willing and desiring to serve people around her. She decided to give her life to God by entering a convent to become a nun, and she also remained serving people tirelessly in her vocation as a doctor. The conversion of her life happened through the way she felt and understood the wonderful love of her foster and natural mothers for her and the unconditional love of God for her and for humanity. Through this story, the author wishes that the readers may be moved and begin to think about the grace and love of God for them and for the whole human race. I vowed to visit as many countries as my current age. And so I started my travelling adventures, keeping a journal along the way. This is the result: 26 by 26.
