Book Who Is That Man

Download or read book Who Is That Man written by David Dalton and published by Hachette Books. This book was released on 2012-04-24 with total page 450 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Now in paperback and with a new foreword, a kaleidoscopic look at the many faces of Bob Dylan, legendary folk singer-songwriter and winner of the 2016 Nobel Prize in Literature. For almost half a century, Bob Dylan has been a primary catalyst in rock's shifting sensibilities. Few American artists are as important, beloved, and endlessly examined, yet he remains something of an enigma. Who, we ask, is the "real" Bob Dylan? Is he Bobby Zimmerman, yearning to escape Hibbing, Minnesota, or the Woody Guthrie wannabe playing Greenwich Village haunts? Folk Messiah, Born-Again Bob, Late-Elvis Dylan, Jack Fate, or Living National Treasure? In Who Is That Man? David Dalton--cultural historian, journalist, screenwriter, and novelist--paints a revealing portrait of the rock icon, ingeniously exposing the three-card monte games he plays with his persona. Guided by Dalton's cutting-edge insights and myth-debunking point of view, Who Is That Man? follows Dylan's imaginative life, integrating actual events with Dylan's words and those of the people who know him most intimately. Drawing upon Dylan's friends and fellow eyewitnesses--including Marianne Faithfull, Allen Ginsberg, Peter Stampfel , Larry "Ratso" Sloman, Eric Andersen, Nat Hentoff, Andrew Oldham, Nat Finkelstein, and others--this book will provide a new perspective on the man, the myth, and the musical era that forged them both.

Book WHO IS GOD

Download or read book WHO IS GOD written by Sougou Bruno SANON and published by Scribl. This book was released on 2017-07-24 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The notion of the word ‘God’ has been misunderstood for long and by many people, scientists have searched him through their apparatus many times and speculated about his existence with their scientific knowledge, but since then they have never seen Him with their human eyes neither with their telescope because God is merely and only a Spirit. How many people are praying every day a God that they don’t really know, that they have never seen, and have never come to the full knowledge of his attributes or tasted them? The question we should ask ourselves is this: can we worship and please God without knowing exactly what He likes or dislikes? We believe in God not because we have seen him but because He exists not because he is, the more people have tried to blindfold and embarrass others about this notion of supreme being, the more voices have risen to demonstrate that God doesn’t exist and that there is no life after death, the more the proof of his existence and the understanding of his attributes become more and more clear. We have been so impatient with God, to the point that our misconception about his nature, our problems, suffering and lack led us to question many times the existence and power of that supreme Spirit. If God exists why can’t He put an end immediately to all the troubles of the world? Does God care about our pain, does He see when our world is about to fall, when tears are streaming down from our eyes? Does He care when people, friends have abandoned us and said bye bye to us? When diseases are knocking at our doors? When people are dying under the threat of bullets? When an airplane crashes or when a bomb strikes an area? Or when an act of kamikaze kills a lot of people? It seems clearly to me that today when people manufacture something, they accompany it with a handbook just to help the user know how to use their invention easily and suitably. The same thing applies to God our manufacturer, He created us not because He wanted his creatures to suffer, problems come just because we don’t know who He really is and we don’t follow the manual which He gave us, which is supposed to guide our life. Knowing God, that’s to say knowing his nature and obeying his commandments are therefore more important than our prayers or just believing that He exists. In this book we are going to explore all the attributes of this God to remove once and for all the misconceptions about Him, we are going to demonstrate that life continues after death and that there is also a final judgment. Welcome to who is God? welcome to his true knowledge.

Book Who Is Sylvia and Other Stories

Download or read book Who Is Sylvia and Other Stories written by Dorothy E. Peven and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-12-16 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 2002, in this innovative book two leading practitioners tell the stories of the people they have met as clients and how they, as therapists, tried to help them. Through compelling case studies, Peven and Shulman invite the reader into their thoughts and feelings about their clients, their processes and treatment techniques, and their subsequent successes and failures. The authors describe a cognitive, constructivist, interpersonal, dynamic approach based primarily on the principles of Alfred Adler's Individual Psychology. The case studies represent several different DSM-IV diagnostic categories, and the authors offer their own theoretical perspectives and treatment methods for each category. With compassion, insight, and skill, the authors take complicated material and present it in a clearly written and easy to understand fashion.

Book Who Is In the Room

Download or read book Who Is In the Room written by Brooke O'Harra and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-09-25 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With this book, Brooke O’Harra takes up directing as an artistic practice in and of itself. Speaking beyond and against craft, O’Harra drives the art of directing forward. O’Harra investigates a series of important questions: How do we wrest our work from institutional imperatives of public building and culture building? How can an artist-driven discourse lead us toward the urgencies of artists and their publics in this moment? How do we “make” plays? How do we activate the relationships of making, whether between artists in the rehearsal room or between the production and the audience? Brooke addresses all aspects of the directorial process: reckoning with the script through dramaturgy, working within the rehearsal room, collaborating with other artists, as well as staging and production. This exploration will be of great interest to students and scholars in performance studies with a particular interest in directing.

Book excerpt: A provocative satire of love, sex, money, and politics that unfolds over four wild days in so-called “paradise”—the long-awaited first novel from the acclaimed author of Sam the Cat “I seriously, deeply love this book.”—Michael Cunningham NAMED ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR BY THE NEW YORK TIMES AND THE WASHINGTON POST Every summer, a once-sort-of-famous cartoonist named Rich Fischer leaves his wife and two kids behind to teach a class at a weeklong arts conference in a charming New England beachside town. It’s a place where, every year, students—nature poets and driftwood sculptors, widowed seniors, teenagers away from home for the first time—show up to study with an esteemed faculty made up of prizewinning playwrights, actors, and historians; drunkards and perverts; members of the cultural elite; unknown nobodies, midlist somebodies, and legitimate stars—a place where drum circles happen on the beach at midnight, clothing optional. Once more, Rich finds himself, in this seaside paradise, worrying about his family’s nights without him and trying not to think about his book, now out of print, or his future as an illustrator at a glossy magazine about to go under, or his back taxes, or the shameless shenanigans of his colleagues at this summer make-out festival. He can’t decide whether his own very real desire for love and human contact is going to rescue or destroy him. A warped and exhilarating tale of love and lust, Who Is Rich? goes far beyond to address deeper questions: of family, monogamy, the intoxicating beauty of children, and the challenging interdependence of two soulful, sensitive creatures in a confusing domestic alliance. LONGLISTED FOR THE CENTER FOR FICTION FIRST NOVEL PRIZE “Funny, maddening . . . defiantly original . . . [Matthew] Klam’s prose is so clean, so self-assured, that it feels a little like a miracle.”—The New York Times “A dazzling meditation on monogamy [and] parenthood . . . full of sound and fury and signifying pretty much everything.”—The Boston Globe “Comic, wondrous, and sad.”—The New Yorker “Almost scarily astute.”—People “An electric amalgam of frustration and tenderness, wonder and rebellion: a paean to the obliterating power of parental love.”—Jennifer Egan “A contemporary masterpiece.”—Salon

The awesome nature of that mission and vision inspires and animates this volume, Now to God Who Is Able. An international array of Christian pastors, scholar activists, parachurch ministry leaders, and community organizers reflect critically on the theological, biblical, contextual, and practical dimensions of what it means to bear witness of the gospel orientated and anchored in God’s justice. Using a trinitarian framework within the prophetic call to do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with God, this book speaks to the modern challenges and opportunities of the pastoral vocation, ecclesiology, hermeneutics, homiletics, ecumenism, theological education, and missional theology. Each essay and this book honor the more than four decades of ministry of Mark Labberton, who retired as president of Fuller Theological Seminary in 2023.
