Download or read book Tell Me Who I Am written by Julia Navarro and published by PLAZA & JANÉS. This book was released on 2014-02-13 with total page 964 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A journalist receives a proposal to investigate the eventful life of his great-grandmother, about whom all that is known is that she fled Spain, abandoning her husband and child, shortly before the Civil War broke out. The memoir of an entire century, this novel adds a new, original chapter to Julia Navarro's best-selling career. Tell Me Who I Am surprises and enchants with a captivating and heartrending story. This is a novel about memory and identity with an exceptionallywell-drawn and unforgettable literary character: a woman who throughout her extraordinary life was able to achieve the highly difficult feat of knowing herself. A victim of her mistakes, aware of her guilt, frightened by her traumas, she is above all an anti-heroine, a flesh-and-blood woman who always acts according to her principles, facing up to every challenge and making errors for which she will never fully pay. A woman who decided that she couldn't be neutral in this life. Navarro's most personal novel surprises for its melodrama and the raw emotions transmitted by many of its stories. It is filled with pure adventure, introspection and political chronicle. From the tumultuous years of the Second Spanish Republic to the fall of the Berlin Wall, including World War II and the Cold War, these pages are packed with intrigue, emotion, politics, espionage, love, betrayal and settings like Madrid, Barcelona, Paris, Buenos Aires, Mexico, Moscow, London, Berlin and Warsaw with brief stopovers in The Basque Country, Cairo, Athens, Lisbon and New York.
Download or read book Who I was Supposed To Be written by Susan Perabo and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2001-04-19 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Both sardonic and moving...Perabo clearly recalls how to hit home runs." —The New York Times Book Review "A stunning collection of short gems, revealing a world both foreign and familiar." —Chicago Tribune Behind every face in Who I Was Supposed to Be is a singular quirk to explore, a peculiarity to celebrate. In Susan Perabo's world, nothing can be taken for granted: here, a retired grocer takes up jewel theft in his twilight years; a data processor squanders her inheritance on one of Princess Diana's gowns; a mugging victim feigns amnesia to win back his wife. In the tradition of Lorrie Moore, Susan Perabo's slightly off-center lens looks hard at the banal and the bizarre, and at the human condition, where she finds extraordinary magic within the smallest of gestures. Sharply written and overlaid with a mischievous wit, Who I Was Supposed to Be is an unforgettable homage to laughter, love, and wonder.
Download or read book Who I ve Become written by Sonya Visor and published by Covenant House/TruUBooks, LLC. This book was released on 2013-10-05 with total page 175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Invisible Masks Traumatic experiences, rejection, and abuse can cause us to function as opposites of our true selves. We often say I’m fine when we’re emotionally, physically, and spiritually on edge. We don’t want the people around us to know we are hurting or struggling because exposing our weakness makes us vulnerable. In Who I’ve Become, Sonya shares her own painful experience as a victim of childhood sexual abuse—from being pursued by one family member’s perversions to being used by several others and lying to keep up the facade that everything was okay when she was hurting inside. Sonya's story shows how her abusers stole her ability to trust her parent’s love just like the enemy tricks us into thinking we can’t take our burdens to the Lord and leave them there. This book shows how we all wear masks at one time or another to cover up our frailties, and the danger that comes when we lose our purpose and ourselves. More than a testimonial, this is a resource to help you take off the mask and find the person God created you to be. Who I’ve Become is a mirror of truth. Are you ready to meet the TruU?

Download or read book Who I Am After All written by Jeff Ansell and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on with total page 263 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: You may recognize Jeff Ansell’s voice from CHUM radio or his face from City-TV, but the behind-the-scenes tales of his life are even more fascinating than the stories he uncovered. In this unflinchingly honest and vulnerable memoir, Jeff reveals his investigative reporting escapades, from hunting Nazi war criminals living in Canada, to inciting the closure of an abusive nursing home, and even going undercover as a drug addict to expose medical fraud. He then steps over to the other side of the microphone to provide media and crisis training to thousands of people worldwide, including PG&E during the Erin Brockovich case and BP’s partner during the Deepwater Horizon disaster. He even became an instructor at Harvard Law School and lecturer at Harvard Business School, despite being a high school dropout. And that’s just scratching the surface. Jeff’s uncanny ability to meet celebrities leads to hilarious and heartwarming interactions (usually), and he recognizes the irony of being an on-air personality and keynotes speaker plagued with panic attacks. He opens up about how grieving changed his relationship to spirituality, and doesn’t pull any punches when guiding us through his tumultuous battle with illness. One thing is for sure—Jeff lived a full life, and this entertaining and inspirational memoir is proof of it.

Download or read book Don t You Know Who I Am written by Ramani S. Durvasula Ph.D and published by Post Hill Press. This book was released on 2019-10-01 with total page 373 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Don’t You Know Who I Am?” has become the mantra of the famous and infamous, the entitled and the insecure. It’s the tagline of the modern narcissist. Health and wellness campaigns preach avoidance of unhealthy foods, sedentary lifestyles, tobacco, drugs, and alcohol, but rarely preach avoidance of unhealthy, difficult or toxic people. Yet the health benefits of removing toxic people from your life may have far greater benefits to both physical and psychological health. We need to learn to be better gatekeepers for our minds, bodies, and souls. Narcissism, entitlement, and incivility have become the new world order, and we are all in trouble. They are not only normalized but also increasingly incentivized. They are manifestations of pathological insecurity—insecurities that are experienced at both the individual and societal level. The paradox is that we value these patterns. We venerate them through social media, mainstream media, and consumerism, and they are endemic in political, corporate, academic, and media leaders. There are few lives untouched by narcissists. These relationships infect those who are in them with self-doubt, despair, confusion, anxiety, depression, and the chronic feeling of being “not enough,” all of which make it so difficult to step away and set boundaries. The illusion of hope and the fantasy of redemption can result in years of second chances, and despondency when change never comes. It’s time for a wake-up call. It’s time to stem the tide of narcissism, entitlement, and antagonism, and take our lives back.
