Book WHO Global Task Force on TB Impact Measurement

Download or read book WHO Global Task Force on TB Impact Measurement written by World Health Organization and published by World Health Organization. This book was released on 2022-10-10 with total page 29 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Each year, WHO publishes estimates of TB disease burden (incidence and mortality) at global, regional and country level, covering the period from 2000 until the latest complete calendar year, in the annual WHO Global TB Report. Estimates of the incidence of drug-resistant TB specifically were added to the report in 2016, with a focus on rifampicin-resistant TB (RR-TB). Since 2006, estimates of TB disease burden have been produced using standard methods that are periodically reviewed by the WHO Global Task Force on TB Impact Measurement. The purpose of the meeting was an up-to-date review by the Task Force of methods being used by WHO to produce estimates of TB disease burden, with a focus on two major topics: (i) Methods for producing estimates of TB incidence and mortality in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic; (ii) Methods for producing estimates of the incidence of drug-resistant TB, with a focus on estimates of the incidence of rifampicin resistance.

Book Global Tuberculosis Control

Download or read book Global Tuberculosis Control written by and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 39 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This report is a short update to the WHO report on global tuberculosis (TB) control that was published in March 2009, based on data collected from July to September 2009. It is designed to fill an 18-month gap between the full reports of 2009 (in March) and 2010 (in October), following changes to the production cycle of the report in 2009 that have been made to ensure that future reports in the series contain more up-to-date data. The report includes the latest (2008) estimates of the global burden of TB (incidence, prevalence and mortality). It also includes an assessment of progress in implementing the Stop TB Strategy and the Global Plan to Stop TB, which in combination have set out what needs to be done to achieve the 2015 global targets for TB control. These targets are that incidence should be falling by 2015 (MDG Target 6.c) and that prevalence and mortality rates should be halved by 2015 compared with their level in 1990. The latest data (up to 2010) on financing for TB control are presented, and progress towards the 2015 targets at global and regional level is analysed. The report also features updates about the work of the Global Laboratory Initiative and the WHO Global Task Force on TB Impact Measurement, and highlights achievements in TB control during the period 1995-2008 as well as the success of a new initiative in 2009 in which global TB data collection went online."--Publisher's description.

Major Infectious Diseases identifies feasible, cost-effective packages of interventions and strategies across delivery platforms to prevent and treat HIV/AIDS, other sexually transmitted infections, tuberculosis, malaria, adult febrile illness, viral hepatitis, and neglected tropical diseases. The volume emphasizes the need to effectively address emerging antimicrobial resistance, strengthen health systems, and increase access to care. The attainable goals are to reduce incidence, develop innovative approaches, and optimize existing tools in resource-constrained settings.

Book Understanding and Using Tuberculosis Data

Download or read book Understanding and Using Tuberculosis Data written by World Health Organization and published by World Health Publications. This book was released on 2015-01-31 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Surveillance data collected in vital registration and TB notification systems provide essential information about the TB epidemic and programmatic efforts to control the disease at both national and local levels. Analysis of these data can help programme managers and other staff to track the level of and trends in TB disease burden, detect outbreaks of disease and identify ways to improve existing TB prevention, diagnostic and treatment services. This book provides practical guidance on the analysis and use of such surveillance data, and is suitable for a wide range of people engaged in TB control. It was produced as a major collaborative effort as part of the work of the WHO's Global Task Force on TB Impact Measurement."--Page 4 of cover.

Book excerpt: Health experts have confirmed that the emergence of extensively drug-resistant tuberculosis (XDR-TB) poses a serious threat to public health, particularly when associated with HIV. At its first meeting, the World Health Organization (WHO) Global Task Force on XDR-TB also outlined a series of measures that countries must put in place to effectively combat XDR-TB. In addition, the Task Force will help mobilize teams that can respond to requests for technical assistance from countries, and be deployed at short notice to XDR-TB risk areas.

Book National tuberculosis prevalence surveys 2007 2016

Download or read book National tuberculosis prevalence surveys 2007 2016 written by and published by World Health Organization. This book was released on 2021-05-03 with total page 291 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Between 2007 and the end of 2016, 24 countries implemented a total of 25 national tuberculosis prevalence surveys using methods recommended by WHO. The 25 surveys consisted of 13 in Asia and 12 in Africa. Collectively, survey findings have informed the policies, plans and programmatic actions needed to address gaps in TB diagnosis and treatment and to reduce the burden of TB disease. Finally, the 24 countries have a robust baseline for assessing progress towards new global targets set in the UN Sustainable Development Goals (2016–2030) and WHO’s End TB Strategy (2016–2035). The methods, results, successes achieved, challenges faced and lessons learned from the 25 surveys were comprehensively documented in the book. We viewed such a product as a global public good, that should be available to all those with an interest in and commitment to using survey findings, now and in the future e.g. academics, donors, public health officers and national TB programmes. As with implementation of the 25 surveys themselves, the book is the result of a major global, regional and national collaborative and collective effort, with more than 450 contributors from all around the world.
