Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Has one ever imagined what it would be like for an angel to be sent as an emissary by the command of God? Beyond the Wooden Gate gives us a glimpse into the mission of an angel sent to earth to save an old lady's soul. Celeste Terra is an elderly woman whose mother has suddenly passed away. A Christian, she becomes angry with God for his abrupt taking of her mother. Satan has traipsed into Celeste's soul, leading her into bitter grief and denouncing her faith in God. But God has a plan for Celeste Terra: his plan to redeem her heart. He has given his instruction to his angelic messenger; this child must remember guidance from a loved one. And so Celeste Terra's journey begins, from resentment to repentance. As Celeste recalls a childhood story her mother had shared with her as a young girl, she takes to heart its message. God gives us choices; the small gate at the narrow road or the wide gate at the broad road. Beyond the wooden gate, which road will Celeste Terra choose?

Download or read book White Paw Beyond the Gate written by Fredrick Terry and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2021-06-15 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fun adventure book for boys or girls that follows as Prancer the pup tells his story of all the growing up he has to do before he is a full fledged farm dog. The advice he receives from Mr. Magic, the old billy goat who runs the farm, and careful instruction from his Pa about how to treat the animals and use your power wisely, helps him learn what it means to be both gentle and strong. This helps him as he along with little Billy the Kid and Miracle the Chick find fun, adventure and danger in the pasture behind the barn. The girls and mom take good care of all the animals and the farm, patiently waiting for dad to return from another deployment, while Prancer avoids the ornery bully turkeys, Tom and Henny. The crazy-one-eyed dog adds to the fun and chaos, and all the animals keep a watchful eye out for Tangerine the Fox, who would love nothing better than to take some tasty turkey or chubby chicken home to feed her pups. She might even try to feed them Prancer if she gets a chance. It is a dangerous life on the farm, and Prancer must grow up fast, learn to be brave, and become White Paw, when he goes beyond the gate.

Download or read book A Time and a Place written by Joe Mahoney and published by Donovan Street Press Inc.. This book was released on 2021-01-17 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Barnabus’s nephew is behaving oddly. Calling upon Doctor Humphrey for assistance has not been particularly helpful, because the good doctor’s diagnosis of demonic possession is clearly preposterous. Even the demon currently ensconced on the front room couch agrees it’s preposterous. But then, how else to explain the portal to another world through which his nephew and Humphrey have just now disappeared? Barnabus knows their only chance of rescue is for Barnabus J. Wildebear himself to step up and go through that portal. Thus begins an existential romp across space and time, trampling on Barnabus’ assumptions about causality, freewill, identity, good and evil. Can Barnabus save his nephew—and incidentally, all of humanity? Praise for A Time and a Place: "Mahoney skillfully... uses Barnabus's multilayered adventures to yank readers into moments of comedy, tragedy, horror, and philosophical contemplation of time, free will, and personal responsibility. ...Mahoney's work is great for those who like their speculative fiction thoughtful, eloquent, and messy." ~ Publishers Weekly "A Sci-Fi Fantasy with literary notes, there is so much to love about this book. The magic of A Time and a Place resides in its rich description of places we'll never see—not even in dreams—and the people who must manipulate impossible situations to save their kith and kin." ~ A.B. Funkhauser, author of Shell Game: A Black Cat Novel "A Time and a Place provides an entertaining frolic through the imaginary blue and yellow purple hills of someone desperately in need of therapy. And I loved it! Written in a Neil Gaimanesque style of witty prose and existential, thought-provoking dilemmas, it will captivate you, entertain you, and keep you out of mischief until it's time for tea. Excellent stuff . . . and highly recommended." ~ Andrew Weston, author of the internationally bestselling IX Series "An intricate plot laced with Mahoney humour and excellent writing makes this a must read for all lovers of good books." ~ Brian Wyvill, Author of The Second Gate "It's a great book." ~ Matt Watts, Comedian, Actor, Writer (Michael: Tuesdays and Thursdays, CBC Television)

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Growing up in the prairie is not much different from growing up anywhere else. Only the distances are greater. Neighbors in a town or a village are only yards away; neighbors in the prairie are miles away. Growing up in Prairie Faquetaique during the worst of Jim Crow could prove deadly. The Acadian Prairie was no different from any places in either the North or the South where some sought advantages at the expense of others. And some fought against the violence and discrimination any way that they could. The Acadian Prairie: Amelie continues the saga of the Dupré, Prejean, White, Nightflower, Bennet, and Fontenot families as they enter the new century facing the dangers found in the changing landscape of the disappearing open range. Whether it is a young girl trying to avoid being attacked again by her mother's lover, competition for business in a small village turning violent, or a school for black children threatened with arson, life in the prairie continued to present challenges to the next generation. TAP: Amelie follows Amelie Dupré, Yvette White, Peter Fontenot, and their families as they grow and seek their rightful place in the prairie. Not all goes well, and their struggles define the best and worst of life in the prairie during the worst of the Jim Crow era and the Gilded Age.
