Psalm 55:6 (KJV) There are many tears and much sorrow for this white dove, but it is happy with life! You will not understand this for years to come, but this wounded white dove will bring wonderful blessings to you and your family. You must believe this! Many years ago, an old woman delivered this message to Carl's mother on a dark, city street. Eight-year-old Carl and his seven brothers and sisters are mystified by this strange story. What is the importance of the wounded, white dove? How could a wounded white dove bring many blessings to such a large, deprived family? What hidden secrets must Carl uncover? Will Carl ever find the wounded white dove? Once again, Arthur Dale Likens weaves a beautiful story about an incredible, loving family living on a lonely, dusty road known as Anglin' Road. There are more struggles and adventures-blizzards, a possible murder, an abandoned tent, and Carl's beloved brother Glen's health is deteriorating. Friends-old and new-and loving relatives come to share in the laughter, the dancing, and the singing that echo across the valley.

Download or read book Ekphrases written by Saad Ali and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2020-01-31 with total page 105 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: About the Book Book One of Ekphrases is the third book of poetry by Saad Ali. It’s the first installment in his anthology of ekphrases. On this occasion, the poems are born out of Ali’s interpretations of the artworks (paintings) of various Western (European and American) artists—from past and present. The poems are not merely descriptions or elaborations of the themes, messages, subjects and objects of and in the paintings, but rather his poetic discourse is much more engaging in that it is an embodiment of the stories within stories of human stories—manifesting as the consequence of an interaction between (the minds of) a philosopher-poet and an artist. Also, the main components of Ali’s poetic discourse i.e. contemplation and satire become prominent—embodying reflections on the fundamental questions of why, what, how, when, where, and who vis-à-vis existence and being (in general) and, more specifically, the human condition(s). Here, the instances of the phenomena of love, hate, fear, courage, nostalgia, remorse, redemption et cetera have been invoked—even at the subjective level. As always, the book is an invitation to all for both an individual and a collective contemplative and reflective odyssey. So that we may be able to interpret and comprehend the intricacies and niceties of existence and human life in a better (and/or different) way.
Download or read book Clear Creek written by Don Ballew and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2010-11-15 with total page 477 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a portrayal of two plebian families that lived far into the Appalachian Mountains. The fiery Jasper Burnine family, Caucasian, and The Moon Clan, Cherokee, were across from the other on Clear Creek. Surprisingly, they became close. The hot-tempered Burnines became bitter over the ill treatment of the Moon clan. The Moon, the ex-Cherokee warrior, became an enraged madman. Privately he declared war on those that came to molest his family. The intruders that couldnt escape his wrath were left as food for the buzzards and foxes. This book has a powerful story. It is fast paced, violent, romantic, bawdy, hard bitten, comical, and haunting. Life was hard in the mountains. Half the children died young. In the new nation there was little law enforcement, so each family stayed on guard. The time, 1790 to 1840 was a time of crisis for the new nation called the United States of America. Would it remain a nation? The British were lurking, waiting for an opening. The Cherokees, beaten in war, saw their land taken as white people came to settle the new continent. The Indians worried over this for years. Would they have to move across the big river to the new country?
