He knows their field marks, habits, and songs, and his work demonstrates an obvious fascination with them. Whirl is King gathers forty-three of his bird poems about herons, owls, shorebirds, warblers, raptors, wrens, and other exotic visitors blown in by wind and storm. Whirl is King features Galvin's hallmark descriptive powers and verbal music on full display and demonstrates his talent as a contemporary poet."--BOOK JACKET.

Book All the Whirl s a Stage

Download or read book All the Whirl s a Stage written by Robert Colacurcio and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2019-03-30 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about the perils and pitfalls of the busy mind. Busyness not only challenges our mental and physical health; there are also the subliminal messages that come hidden within the concession to the demands of busyness. This book asks the reader to view the whirl going on in the world today as though it were a stage set, and you are the director as well as one of the actors in the drama. The stage set device is a way to get a fresh and, hopefully, a refreshing perspective on the whirligig merry-go-round that is the busy whirl happening on the world stage today. The movement of the book takes the reader from an unreflective absorption in the whirl of time to a standpoint of spacious clarity, a place that allows one to see clearly what is really going on.

Book The King s Dictionary

Download or read book The King s Dictionary written by and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2021-10-11 with total page 459 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aden, of old one of the main Eurasian ports for goods from China, Southeast Asia and India on their way to the Mediterranean lands, was controlled during the 13th - 15th centuries by the Rasūlid dynasty. One of their kings, al-Malik al-Afḍal al- ‘Abbās b. ‘Alī (1363-1377) wrote multilingual glossaries (vocabularia) of extraordinary importance, universally termed the Rasūlid Hexaglot. Its emergence caused quite a stir (e.g. New York Times, February 1981), and it is with pride that we now present our customers with the authoritative translation, commentary, and explanation of the socio-historical context by a group of major experts. The Arabic, Persian, Turkic, Greek, Armenian and Mongol languages in the King’s Dictionary were the most important tongues of the Eastern Mediterranean. The Greek, Armenian and Mongol sections, in particular, provide one of the few examples of transcriptions of living vernacular forms of the era. Thomas Allsen’s captivating chapter on the Eurasian Cultural Context of the dictionary makes clear, i.a., the depth of connections among several Eurasian cultural areas in the aftermath of the Mongol conquests.
