Book Media and the Path to Peace

Download or read book Media and the Path to Peace written by Gadi Wolfsfeld and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2004-01-15 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first book to examine in detail the roles that the news media can play in an ongoing peace process. Gadi Wolfsfeld explains how the press's role in such processes varies over time and political circumstance. He examines three major cases: the Oslo peace process between Israel and the Palestinians; the peace process between Israel and Jordan; and the process surrounding the Good Friday Agreement in Northern Ireland. Wolfsfeld's central argument is that there is a fundamental contradiction between news values and the nature of a peace process. This often leads the media to play a destructive role in attempts to make peace, but variations in the political and media environment affect significantly exactly how the media behave. Wolfsfeld shows how the media played a mainly destructive role in the Oslo peace process, but were more constructive during the Israel-Jordan process and in Northern Ireland.

Book Path of Peace and Happiness

Download or read book Path of Peace and Happiness written by Chulan Sampathge and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2022-12-06 with total page 444 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Are you happy in this modern world? Or do you need more? Is there something else you are searching for? If you are looking for true happiness, then you need to find the path leading to it. The principal aim of this book is to share the value of the middle path propounded by the Buddha many centuries ago, rejecting extremes. Unlike the historical Buddha’s time, in this modern world, lots of undue suffering is inflicted upon people by bad politics and false interpretations of carefully selected wrong views. Buddhism’s pragmatic teachings help clarify, uproot, and eliminate the deep underlying causes of suffering. Narrated through a philosophical background, the book conveys how to relate Buddhist teachings to improve the quality of everyday life and find true happiness. It discusses Buddhist ethical values and Western development, including how wrong views can cause destruction and misery, emphasising the futility of wars, a rare book written to be read by kings, presidents, and ambassadors with a view to change the narratives of armed conflicts in the 21st century. Understanding history is essential to guiding important foreign relationships at times of growing uncertainty threatening world peace. The book highlights the destructive consequences of the most recent Russia's aggression in Ukraine. Destroying lives and livelihoods are the nature of armed conflict. The war also imperils the world's economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic: inflation, food security, energy security and further supply-chain pressures driving inflation are among the many challenges policy makers worldwide must tackle. As the global ramifications of the invasion take hold, the book shows the importance of insight wisdom, nonviolence approach on the foreign policy challenges ahead. The book also shows the practical applications of Buddhist teachings through familiar historical literature not inhibited by traditional interpretations. A prime source of both western and eastern philosophies, it constitutes a rational and straightforward understanding of the ethics and psychology of Buddhism, advocating peace and nonviolence, respect for life and individual acceptance of accountability, social responsibility, and welfare of all to improve social cohesion.

Download or read book Warrior s Mirror The The Path To Peace written by Sirshree and published by Penguin Books India. This book was released on 2010-10 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Synopsis We are all warriors on the stage of life. The mirror is a potent weapon in the everyday battles we all have to fight. But how do we discover this mirror? Though we see it every day, we seldom realize that the world is our mirror. The fault we find in others actually lies within us, not them. Our perception of the world around us is actually a reflection of who we are and what we believe in. This is what this revolutionary book brings out in an interesting story revolving around a modern-day Hercules. The technique of self-investigation demonstrated in this book has the power of eliminating all your complaints and miseries in order to pave the way for peace and joy within you.

Book The gospel of peace you will save the world

Download or read book The gospel of peace you will save the world written by davide appi and published by Tektime. This book was released on 2022-06-14 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A BOOK DEDICATED TO HOPE Humanity is at a crossroads between self-destruction and change. Are you negative and pessimistic? Do you feel uneasy about the future? Are you unhappy because of your daily problems, not to mention wars, crises and pollution? I will give you many reasons to become positive, peaceful and able to achieve peace beyond imagination! I will take you on a fantastic journey into your own mind, to go beyond it. In fact, the ordinary mind thinks it can change things, but it cannot. That is why we never solve our own problems and those of the planet. But how do we go beyond the mind to generate real change? Meditation is the main tool to change ourselves and the world around us. We can stop wars, we can stop crime, there is no limit to what we can do. The Maharishi effect, which has been scientifically studied many times, shows that with the power of our intention and meditation, we can actually do something in terrible situations, such as armed conflicts, violence, and crime. And if it works for the most extreme cases, this means that even in less tragic situations, such as our daily lives, we have a much greater margin of intervention in events close to us than we are used to believing. A limited number of street lamps are needed to illuminate the streets of an entire city, just as 1% of the population of a city, of a nation, or of the entire planet, who are able to reach a state of deep meditation, are enough to bring light and remove the darkness from consciousness. A small group of awakened people are enough to irradiate and enlighten all other people, who will unconsciously change their way of thinking and acting. Does all this sound like science fiction, too good to be true? Whether you believe you can or believe you can't, you are still right. Since the Universe is subjective, our way of believing the world, our beliefs, becomes our reality. What we are and what we think spreads and reflects throughout the Universe. Do you realise the implications of this? With our thinking we not only influence ourselves, but also the environment we live in, our planet, and even the entire Universe. We are a miniature Universe, but a hologram of the Whole, and we embody the infinite possibilities of the Universe itself. Translator: Alessandra Cervetti PUBLISHER: TEKTIME

The lives of outstanding figures such as the Buddha, Walt Whitman, and Gandhi are used to connect the ideal of inner peace with how real people cultivate peace in their everyday lives. Peacefulness as dynamic, selective, and egoless is shown through the constructive act of choosing different ways of life, such as having a smaller family or a more modest career. A message of hope and inspiration permeates this pragmatic approach and is exemplified by the author's own practice of meditation.
