Download or read book Zot Special Edition written by Scott McCloud and published by It Books. This book was released on 2008-11-11 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From comics pioneer Scott McCloud, the complete black and white collection of Zot!, featuring never-before-seen artwork and extensive commentary by the author Long before manga took the American comics market by storm, Scott McCloud (Understanding Comics, Making Comics) combined the best ideas from manga, alternative comics, and superheroes into Zot!—a frenetic and innovative exploration of comics' potential that helped set the stage for McCloud's later groundbreaking theoretical work. Zachary T. Paleozogt lives in "the far-flung future of 1965," a utopian Earth of world peace, robot butlers, and flying cars. Jenny Weaver lives in an imperfect world of disappointment and broken promises—the Earth we live in. Stepping across the portals to each other's worlds, Zot and Jenny's lives will never be the same again. Now, for the first time since its original publication more than twenty years ago, every one of McCloud's pages from the black and white series has been collected in this must-have commemorative edition for aficionados to treasure and new fans to discover.

Book excerpt: The RSS can't stand this book. When it was first published in Marathi, RSS cadres made a public bonfire of it in Pune. Raosaheb Kasbe presents an incisive critique of M.S. Golwalkar's Bunch of Thoughts, the main ideological treatise of the RSS. Kasbe traces the historical roots of cultural nationalism as outlined by Golwalkar, and exposes its authoritarianism. His study of the functioning of the RSS reveals its communal blueprint, its anti-modern views and anti-democratic objectives. Kasbe challenges the RSS on its own turf - its interpretation of Hinduism. Through a rigorous critique of Golwalkar's text and careful analysis of ancient texts, Kasbe shows how the RSS version of Hinduism is unapologetically casteist and deeply patriarchal. Four decades and seven editions after its first publication, Kasbe's zestful polemic is finally available for the first time in English, with an Introduction by scholar and activist Shamsul Islam.

Book Classification of Pseudo reductive Groups AM 191

Download or read book Classification of Pseudo reductive Groups AM 191 written by Brian Conrad and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2015-11-10 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the earlier monograph Pseudo-reductive Groups, Brian Conrad, Ofer Gabber, and Gopal Prasad explored the general structure of pseudo-reductive groups. In this new book, Classification of Pseudo-reductive Groups, Conrad and Prasad go further to study the classification over an arbitrary field. An isomorphism theorem proved here determines the automorphism schemes of these groups. The book also gives a Tits-Witt type classification of isotropic groups and displays a cohomological obstruction to the existence of pseudo-split forms. Constructions based on regular degenerate quadratic forms and new techniques with central extensions provide insight into new phenomena in characteristic 2, which also leads to simplifications of the earlier work. A generalized standard construction is shown to account for all possibilities up to mild central extensions. The results and methods developed in Classification of Pseudo-reductive Groups will interest mathematicians and graduate students who work with algebraic groups in number theory and algebraic geometry in positive characteristic.

Book excerpt: In the spring of 1944, Red Army Air Force military correspondent Mikhail Koriakov experienced a profound religious awakening which led to a sudden marked revulsion in his entire opinion of the Soviet system and philosophy. On voicing his new views, he was regarded to be “ideologically unsound,” was relieved of his post, and assigned to innocuous duties. I’ll Never Go Back, first published in 1948, details the author’s adventures following his conversion. The book provides a starkly realistic account of the brutality of the Red Army, detailing various incidents of barbarisms to which he was witness, and also describes his assignment to the Embassy and the operations of the Soviet secret police (NKVD) in Paris during this period. “...compelling...”—Kirkus Review

Book excerpt: "Swing at your own risk, structurally designed to swing from one subject to the next, from one lyric utterance to the next, concerns itself with unpacking myths of gender (specifically myths of woman and womanhood), myths of race (specifically myths of the black U.S. person), myths of sexuality (specifically myths of a stable sexual identity) and myths of violence (specifically myths of the scary black man in the U.S. and the scary black woman in the U.S.). Through formal and structural experimentation, the poems attempt to look at the varying issues in the U.S. that can rob humans of opportunities to be radically humane." --

But one day a wave sends her life adrift, in this touching, funny novel about grief, love, and friendship Thirteen-year-old Luna lives in a small town on the coast of Tuscany. She is smart and funny. And she is albino. When her brother Luca drowns in a surfing accident, Luna's mother retreats into herself. At school, stricken by her loss yet determined to carry on, Luna makes a new friend and ally, the eccentric Zot, a boy from Chernobyl. Luna believes that Luca still speaks to her through a whale bone washed up on the shore. In truth, this is part of a ruse that has been orchestrated by Sandro, Luca's former teacher, as a misguided way to assuage the guilt he carries with him. Luna's fantasies clash with the lies—even the well-intentioned ones—of the adult world in this touching, droll novel by the author of Live Bait (Other Press, 2014). Luna is an unforgettable character—vivid, stubborn, highly imaginative, determined to become her own person—who will appeal to readers of all ages.
